Hi Lauren! Over 40 years for me but I still fall apart if my kids say they have tummy ache! Count down to February is on!

I have no kids so its not too bad for me, are you really stressed about bugs/germs? I'm really terrified of myself and others being such but don't have all the bug/food prep anxiety luckily

Interesting to hear that CBT has worked for some people. I'm also interested in hypnotherapy.

Had a bit of an argument with DP yesterday when I thought he was going to v (he wasn't) and I ran away and hid. I really do need to get this sorted out.

Commuting scares me too. I cycle to work in the summer but tend not to when it gets darker as most of my commute is on a cycle path which isn't lit. It'll have to be the train in about a month's time

I had hypno when I was 17 it didn't work, had private CBT in my early 20s spent a fortune on it, late 20s had nhs CBT with desensitisation therapy and it did really really help, I can deal with watching it on tv now I couldn't before

I get the train to work and the past 3 weekends were replacement coaches, I was an absolute wreck, the last day I couldn't cope and spent £50 in a taxi!

Morning! Have had cbt which really helped. But emet is the 'thing' that hits me if I'm tired or stressed. Some get migraines others IBS. I panic!

I know this thread has been quiet for a few days but thought I'd say hi and ask for some understanding sympathy!

My 4 year old DS has got a horrible tummy bug from school and I'm not coping well at all. Thank God for my fearless husband dealing with laundry and cuddles because I'm a wreck. I'm hiding with my 3month old DD on the pretence of avoiding her getting it. Feel like a dreadful mummy but its probably better than him seeing me panic. Eurgh, DS and I shared a drink earlier too.

It doesn't help that I have stock of ondansetron from when I was ill a few months ago. I'm being very firm with myself and not going to take any. I'm not going to see if they are safe when breast feeding as then I might stay away from them.

Maybe its time to see the GP and be brave and admit how I feel. It would be nice to get some help so I don't pass this horrible phobia on to the kids. Why can't I just be afraid of snakes? I can avoid them!

I'm so much better than I've ever been to the extent that i don't actually fear being sick myself and coped well with my DS getting sick after eating too much crappy food before bed when on hols this year Although i'm certainly not completely cured, e.g. still very much fear the whole family getting the noro together and a hellish and out of control situation ensuing!!
However, all the signs are my DS aged 8 has or is developing the phobia. I've tried so hard not to pass my fears on. Could it be heriditory I wonder? His lovely childminder became very sick through migrane apparently whilst out and about with him, and she joking said he seemed scarred or life! Also I saw the look of horror on his face when he saw the sick bowl in his sister's room a few weeks ago (her stomach pains turned out to be hunger related in the end fortunately!!). Hope this doesn't turn into anything. Can I stop it? I missed out on many opportunities due to this and I don't want him to be the same.
On a positive note somehow I can cope with far more situations I ever thought possible (perhaps because I don't have much other stress and anxiety in life at the moment), although I know I will never be the one to rush forward to help a sicky person!!

I'm 42 and have has this horrible phobia since childhood. I've had hypnotherapy and seen a counsellor over the years but I don't think I'm any better.

Last night I found 13 year old dd looking pale sitting in the bathroom floor. She said she'd had a tummy ache and diarrhea and now felt sick. I immediately felt very anxious. She wasn't sick in the end and perked up again quite quickly.

My question - could she actually have had a very mild form of tummy bug? I've read that some people just don't get these bugs or get them very mildly. She's only had a v bug twice in her life - once as a baby and once after a school trip where they all got it. My other two dcs hardly ever get them either. Does this mean I'm relatively 'safe'?

Hello, I'm signing in as well. Not doing so well as the season has arrived and my hands are already cracking due to the extra cleaning.

DS,3 has had to go to his dad's tonight as he's not well (high temperature, headache and stomachache) and I'm a failure as I just can't trust myself to be able to look after him if he vomits. There is a sick bug doing the rounds at his pre school

Dancergirl I think we've spoken on here before. I'm nearly 37 and have had this since at least the age of 3, possibly earlier. It is entirely possible that some people have a natural immunity of sorts to stomach bugs. When my whole family came down with noro in summer 2012 DS and XP were sick whilst my DM and I just had diarrhoea. It was awful but I never felt nauseated.

I had my prozac doubled a few weeks ago and the GP stopped my prescription for domperidone and moved me onto prochloroperazine instead which isn't working. I need to go back anyway as he wants to see me and I'm going to ask to change anti-emetics again.

Anyone else just want to hibernate until spring?

Oh, and there was some talk a while back that people with blood type B seem to have a better immunity to stomach bugs. I was so happy as I am B+! Still can't wait for a vaccine though.

Is there any news about how close we are to a vaccine?

I seem to remember some comforting info on MN a while ago about if you get the bug, your body doesn't actually need to vomit to get rid of it. Loads of antibodies fight it and the vomiting just speeds up the process.

Does anyone know any more about this?

I think there are also some foods which can protect you from the virus taking hold too much.

That may have been me saying that! It is true that with stomach bugs your body doesn't need to vomit to get rid of it, this response stems from the bug wanting to find a new host (yuk) which it does via the faecal-oral route or by aerosolised particles of vomit being picked up by someone else and ingested. That's why it's so important to wash your hands properly and not to touch your face if you can help it (eyes, nose and mouth) with hands that haven't been washed recently.

There is some, mainly anecdotal, evidence that drinking purple grape or cranberry juice can inhibit the noro virus here.

Daughters birthday yesterday , she really wanted to go to soft play, we avoid because of my emmetophobia, its actually the place which caused my emmetophobia as twice my eldest went there 8 years ago she got noro.

Anyway back to yesterday, I was managing fine, watching for my youngest thumb sucking!. And spotted a child at tab,e next to us, I knew he was about to vomit. Said to my husband and iPad I said it the boy projectile vomited our way.

Both me and hubbie jumped away from the table , I grabbed kids from inside soft play and we left, via the toilets for hand washing!

The soft play place were using antibacterial spray to clean up!aaahhhhhhhhh

So now I'm on high alert.

Oh god, soft play in winter, you deserve a medal helen. That really is amazing that you went and I hope that, although you left early (eewwwwwww), your DD enjoyed her birthday. Let's hope that the boy vomited from too much junk food and bouncing around!

The bottom line is my 6 year old who has only been to soft play twice in her life ( erk my fault) had a fab time!!

This time tomorrow if we all ok I think we will have escaped. I madly made everyone get changed when we got home

Ds2 has been under the weather since Sunday.
The runs.
Tonight he started vomiting...I sort of knew it was coming all evening tbh but...
Dh is away from 4am with work til late Friday.
I have taken a domperidone (which I am livid with myself for) but I can't get this (I felt very poorly all weekend and the had the runs on Monday) with ds2 to care for in my own :(
Oh...and it's my birthday :(

Oh no Badvoc, so sorry. What a crappy (pun intended) birthday. Can you have a proper birthday next week?
I don't cope with DS when he's vomiting, you have all my sympathy.

You're welcome Dancer, DS has grape juice every morning, it's the only juice he'll drink so yes, sod the sugar!

I am very proud that my problems don't affect my kids.
If they need me I'm there but dh is so much better at coping with sick than I am...and he isn't back til 6 tomorrow! Argh!

I'm 25, and suffered with this for around a year, came on suddenly last December.

We had a hospital appointment today for DS (4) ear infection. And a woman was wheeled passed me in a wheel chair cradling a sick bowl!! The nurse then handed me a leaflet that says DS could experience vomiting with his ear infection.

I have been home and had the runs since, so panic stations for me.

Luckily I haven't had to deal with my children being sick yet. But when dh is I generally hide and refuse to talk to him
