I have no advice, I'm afraid, but I'll hold your hand till someone who knows stuff gets here. Do you have someone with you irl?

LEMisdisappointed · 27/05/2013 21:30

Can you tell us what brought this on? Is this something that has just started out of the blue or are you prone to self harm?

mooseisabunny · 27/05/2013 21:30

My dp is downstairs. I pushed him away as I am so embarrassed. But can't stop :(

I have depression, it's being treated and I thought I was getting better. This is the first time I have ever s h and I am terrifying myself, but can't stop for more than 10 secs

Are you upset about something? Or is this just an urge?

MakeGlutenFreeHay · 27/05/2013 21:35

Would it help to talk to your dp about it? He might be of great support.

LEMisdisappointed · 27/05/2013 21:36

Keep talking here, i'll stay and talk to you if it helps - I also suffer from depression and anxiety, not self harming now but did when i was about 18, so understand a little bit what you are going through.

MakeGlutenFreeHay · 27/05/2013 21:36

Would biting something else give you the same release?

LEMisdisappointed · 27/05/2013 21:38

Thats a good idea - bite a pillow? Why have you started doing this tonight, do you think?

What treatment are you having?

mooseisabunny · 27/05/2013 21:44

I'm at a day hospital. I was taking Prozac but doc told me to stop end of last week.

I don't know why. I had a nice weekend , but now can't help it. I tried biting other things, but its almost like I need the pain. My god, I really am going crazy

OP posts:
MagicBaguette · 27/05/2013 21:45

Could be withdrawal from the Prozac. It can cause you to feel very odd.

How quickly did you stop taking the ADs?

mooseisabunny · 27/05/2013 21:47

I was only on 10mg so just stopped. Dr didn't say to do anything else, and I had none left...

Are you very anxious? It sounds like you have a lot of nervous tension and energy.

Breathe. Slowly.

And stop. You can do it.

Find a different outlet for your tension.

Do some star jumps if you can! Distract yourself.

I promise you're not going crazy. I've done the same thing myself before. It's scary but will stop.

Futterby · 27/05/2013 21:50

I know what you're going through, I self harmed for years. I actually don't have any advice on how to stop it, I still get the urge. It's like you actually physically need the pain to be able to cope. I totally get it.

Here's a hand to hold Flowers

MagicBaguette · 27/05/2013 21:50

Stay here and talk to us OP - we're happy to listen and advise.

mooseisabunny · 27/05/2013 21:50

So anxious just don't know what about. Just want to sleep and stop thinking bug I can't shut my stupid brain off

A fantastic thing if you feel the urge to SH is to grip ice cubes. Are you drawing blood?
Often talking is the last thing you feel like doing (been there!) but it can really help. The Samaritans are wonderful and listening and you may find someone impartial to talk you may calm you down

LEMisdisappointed · 27/05/2013 22:01

It does sound like withdrawal symptoms to me, how long were you on prozac?

Could you possibly watch some drivel on the TV? Anything to distract you? Does your DP know what you are doing?

mooseisabunny · 27/05/2013 22:01

Thanks for the reply fluffy. I'm going to go and try and dress the wounds and see if covering my wrists in bandages will help

OP posts:
theansweris42 · 27/05/2013 22:10

I think it might be withdrawal too. You're not crazy, you're asking for help and you're not alone. Can you ask do to help you distract yourself? Withdrawal symptoms are sometimes overwhelming but it will stop. I'm almost at work so have to go but am thinking of you.

LEMisdisappointed · 27/05/2013 22:16

honey, if you are hurting yourself to the degree that you need to dress the wounds, you need some RL help just now. Is your DP still there? Oh and yes, you are so NOT crazy.

MagicBaguette · 27/05/2013 22:20

Yes, and do give the Samaritans a call if you're finding it hard to accept help from your DH

theansweris42 · 27/05/2013 22:40

Agree, if you have open wounds you do need some help. Is the urge still there?

MakeGlutenFreeHay · 28/05/2013 08:38

How are you this morning OP? You had some really good advice, I hope you called the Samaritans, they are excellent. Thinking of you.

mooseisabunny · 28/05/2013 09:42

Thanks all. Feel a bit better this am. Am at day hospital now, so will hopefully get the chance to process
