Emetophobia - my worst nightmare

Ds1 goes to a school set on several different sites. Today one of the sites has been closed for deep cleaning due to norovirus wiping out hundreds of children this week. There are loads of siblings in ds1's building/class and 8 of his classmates were off today.

I am a single parent (really outing myself here!) and terrified of what feels completely inevitable right now. I was awake all night last night, waiting. Shall be doing the same again tonight.

You know, I feel like I have improved a lot with my emetophobia recently. I am no longer worried about the odd v. It's the awful, debilitating violence of noro that terrifies the life out of me.

The waiting is utter torture Sad

I'm also panicking a bit :( All geared up with gel, anti-emetics and anti-anxiety meds and loads of cleaning stuff. Fingers crossed that we'll all be okay! (((big hugs))) to anyone who needs them (hugs offered only over the safety of the interwebs to The Infected of course ;) )

roundabout1 · 19/12/2012 20:50

stef06 · 19/12/2012 22:46

roundabout1 · 20/12/2012 13:03

We all have colds but I am panicking about noro even more now, not even sure why. I'v eseen posts on fb about people still being sick two days after it started. They live hundreds of miles from me but still starts my tummy churning. I ate something after going supermarket shopping before washing my hands on tues day night so am nervous over that - how ridiculous is that!

Marne · 20/12/2012 13:44

I'm the same roundabout only one of my fb friend has it (after her 3 kids came down with it) and she lives very near by, luckily her kids dont go to the same school as mine.

I went to asda this morning (as im running out of food and Tesco no coming until sunday) i went to pay and spotted a woman at the till buying 3 bottles of antibac soap and 2 bottles of milk of magnesia (sp), i freaked out a little and went to a different till (as far away from her as i could), i felt so silly as most people wouldnt have assumed 'tummy bug' by what she was buying but it was the first thing i thought of.

I have been panicking today and keep checking my tesco order to make sure i have not forgotton anything, i am so worried they wont have my turkey in stock and will have to go out looking for one (i'm sure they will have and all will be fine), i dont want to have to go shopping again until after christmas, when the kids come home tomorrow we are staying at home other than a visit to my grandparents (which should be safe).

There seems to be a few children off from school (but i dont know for sure what is wrong with them), i just hope we can get to christmas healthy (appart from colds).

1 more dayof school to go! we can do it laddies Smile

Hello everyone. I also suffer with this awful phobia. So stressed out at the moment . I have been doing a mental register every morning at the school gates to see who is off. I even look for kids at the infant school next door my ds won't even be in contact with them but I can't help it. Only one more day !!!

Remember with the swine flu a few years back, anyone that had a high temp and a cought for more than 3 days were diagnosed with swine flu Hmm, i think its just easy for them to say that.

Doesnt sound like noro to me, first time dd1 picked it up (at the age of 2.5) she was sick on and off for days and then D for over a week and then the rest of us got it and were quite poorly (had to get the doctor out to give dh and i meds as we could hardly look after the dds).

My friends have got what sounds like noro, all 3 of her kids came down with it within 48 hours and now she has it (her dh hasn't got it). I would have thought if that little boy had noro someone else would have had it by now.

Badvocsanta · 20/12/2012 15:14

Ahh, panic stations!

Dd2 has done 3 poo's sinse she got home from school, the last one quite runny (sorry if TMI), trying to tell myself ' its probably too much sugar at school party, or maybe she drank some squash (some brands upset her tummy), or maybe she was bunged up (first poo quite hard) and this is just the back log'.

I have shoved her in the bath and she is playing happily, she ate her dinner and seems ok which has to be a good sign doesn't it?

I'm going to be on edge now and wont be able to sleep incase the other end starts (i can handle all the poo god can throw at me but not V).

Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Littleplasticpeople · 20/12/2012 18:14

Panic here too. A child was sick in the playground at dcs school today Sad I hate this time of year, I'm always so convinced we will all be ill over Christmas.

I on mat leave, but the school I work at has been shut because 120 kids are off with noro. I say it every year, but it seems so bad this year.

Marne · 20/12/2012 19:19

120 kids Shock (we only have 120 kids in our school, small school).

I questioned dd1 after school and snuck in 'so was every one in your class there today?' and she said 'yes' (so none off in her class), i think all of dd2's class were there too. Only one case of v that i know about (the child who was sick in the dinner hall 2 days ago), most other schools near by seem to be effected by noro though so only a matter of time.

A child was sick in the playground a few weeks ago and i was worried but all was ok , at least in the payground its easy to clear up (unlike on carpet where noro can survive for ages).

oaks56 · 20/12/2012 20:21

One of my sons best friends was away today. Its was School party day so I would imagine it was serious to keep him off. Really hope he is away tomorrow as well. I know so many parents send them in ignoring the 48 hr rule so the don't miss the festive activities !!! 1 more day !!!

Well dd2 was fine (no more poo's and has gone to school for the last day).

My friends kids broke up yesterday and her dd came down with noro last night (high temp and V) so this has put me on edge.
I went to the school church service this morning and found myself head counting the kids (most seem to be there). Just need to get through the next few days and we are all clear.

roundabout1 · 21/12/2012 14:49

marne - glad your dd is ok

Well we haven't left the house since wed when dd2 went to preschool. Both are poorly with very bad colds now so stuck at home. Am sad as they miss the last day of Christmassy things at school but relieved that they aren't socialising. We were invited to a bday party on sat at a soft play centre but turned it down as dd1 is ill anyway with poss chronic fatigue & didnt want her overdoing it. Last year at the same childs party we all had noro after it & it almost ruined xmas. Turns out the child whose birthday it is had v & d tues night & wednesday. Is back at school today after a clear 24 hours. So glad I am not going to the party!
