Emetophobia - my worst nightmare

Ds1 goes to a school set on several different sites. Today one of the sites has been closed for deep cleaning due to norovirus wiping out hundreds of children this week. There are loads of siblings in ds1's building/class and 8 of his classmates were off today.

I am a single parent (really outing myself here!) and terrified of what feels completely inevitable right now. I was awake all night last night, waiting. Shall be doing the same again tonight.

You know, I feel like I have improved a lot with my emetophobia recently. I am no longer worried about the odd v. It's the awful, debilitating violence of noro that terrifies the life out of me.

The waiting is utter torture Sad

I would be the same Sad and i would keep her home tomorrow if you can (and the rest of the week) Grin. She will probably be fine, you have done all you can, hopfully it was just due to the high temp (my dd used to be sick at that age with a temp).

I think it depends in age bun,...is the ill child young?
The younger the child the more likely it is that the vomiting is due to high temp.

At that age ds1 was sometimes sick with a temp.
Poor ds2 still ill.
He hasn't been sick again yet with coughing. Still got temps and now runny nose.
He is not going back to pre school this week...I think part of the issue has been he has seemed to get a it better, I sent him back and he ends up as gp ad as ever again :(
Either that or it's flu.
My mum was rushed to a and e Friday afternoon so I spent the evening at a and e around all the poor really people...some vomiting. Then ds2 back at docs. Sigh.
Will be glad when ds1 finishes school on Friday and we can hibernate til jan!! :)

It's basically domperidone which makes food go through the stomach faster and works in the nausea centre of the brain.
MIT make the other end .worse though!!l

Hi Bun and everyone else. I haven't posted on this thread before- but that's because (stupid irrational thinking) it somehow makes me more likely to get it. Daft eh??
But I can identify with so much of what has been said!!! Am terribly worried at the minute, the thought of getting it, the worry is consuming.
Ffs I even found an excuse to phone the school this morning, steer the conversation round to illnesses, and then (phew) find out there were only 3 kids off today, all with colds. But I had to do it!Blush
So bun, it's horrible, but you're not on your own. Have to go to put kids in bath, but will post more later. Thinking of you Bun

Well that's one asleep! Ds has just pushed the toothbrush to the back of his throat choked on the toothpaste and was wretching over bath. I didn't know why until he calmed down. I was panic stricken. fortunately he didn't v. He just said to me mummy i thought i was going to be sick because of what happened with my toothbrush. He laughed it off as if is the most normal thing on the world to be.sick. I'm so glad he had that healthy attitude and isn't like me. BB I do hope you're ok! I imagine for the next couple of days you'll hardly eat or sleep, you'll worry continually and look for the smallest sign of illness. I understand because that is exactly what i do and at the moment Im getting worse.x sorry for spelling and grammar, am on phone!

belgianbun- deffently get some domperidone (i always have a stash, my gp said i can take it for a few days if one of the dd's get a bug), i took it when dd2 had noro 2 christmas's ago and i managed not to V (just had it the other end and felt rough for 2 or 3 days). High temp is listed as a symptom but so are lots of other things, a high temp can be lots of things and with little ones they quite often v with a high temp (my dd did at that age, i fact she v'd with most virusis). I do understand how you feel though, we just got home from the christmas play (where i was quite relaxed thinking there were no bugs going around) and dd1 anounced that a child was sick at lunch time so i am now trying to stay calm and trying to tell myself 'if might not be noro' Sad.

All you can do is think 'you have done all you can to not get it (you have washed her clothes and bathed her and she was removed from the room when it happened', theres nothing else you can do.

Is there anyone else who could have her tomorrow when you are at work? or maybe you could tell work that the childminder is ill and you have no one else to look after her?

Hope your ok Belgian?

Just been researching on google (i know i shouldn't) and it does say you are contagious from when you first feel ill but also says its usually passed on through contact with D or V (so more contagious when V'd or D'd) also says that noro can only survive on hard surfaces for 12 hours but a lot longer on fabric (so pleased our house has lamaite floors down stairs and wipable sofas and also relieved as i was worried about the table the child V'd on today not being cleaned enough), not sure how true this info is though.

Anyway, dont take any notice of me as its probably not noro. I do think the media have blown the noro thing out of proportion and if you take there number of cases into acount its actualy a very small % of the population. There are alot of other tummy bugs that are not as bad as noro and also noro does not effect everyone the same, some people only get D. Theres lots of reasons why a 3 year old would be sick (high temp, reaction to calpol, chest infection). Ok i'm rambling now, truth is i am very anxious too, i just want to get to christmas bug free and be able to relax and enjoy christmas day, chances are i will be ill with stress (happens every year) Sad.

Sorry BB, that's so scary. Motilium prevented me from vomiting last time I had noro, so it does work

Did anyone have the misfortune to read today's DM (I knowXmas Blush) Talk about hamming it up when reporting about the noro virus outbreak on the cruise ships. Anyone would think it was the plague (although, I suppose it is to us)
