OP posts:
shodatin · 04/04/2012 12:09

Afraid it's not a good morning here, so might go back to bed - sorry to be so miserable.

Nilgiri · 04/04/2012 12:17

Oh no, sorry today's not great shodatin. Hope you feel a bit refreshed after some dormousing.

Upwardandonward · 04/04/2012 12:34

Thank you for all the thoughts and hugs. The dr is away for easter, so not much happening on that front.

I hope everyone has spoons and is surviving.

I do keep checking in for your news upward, so many thanks for managing to post. Just checked calendar for Easter, and sorry it means about another week without consultant's input. Do hope your health is improving, wound healing well and that you're not too bored. Sending love and hugs again, s.

Merivel · 04/04/2012 14:24

Thank you so much for posting , upward . Sorry indeed no input from your doctor , and hope you can find pockets of bearability in the days whilst treatment is doing its thing . Wish we could deliver gigantic Easter egg tied with a bow and a real giant bunny for amusement

Oh so sorry you've been feelingf awful, shodatin .< healing vibes> Saw yours & Nilgiri's posts but PC froze and I couldn't respond

On the community centre's books for sale shelf I found a biography of a classical musician who had survived internment in a concentration camp with small son due , she felt , to the strength she derived from music ( obviously not discounting the factors against survival, or the strength of other inmates , but that it had given her the strength to not give up )

Alice Sommers-Hertz, 103 5 years ago -" My concerts gave heart to many of the prisoners , even if only temporarily . I am certain it was music that strengthened my innate optimism and saved my life & that of my son . It was our food and it protected us from hate and literally nourished our souls .
There in the darkest corners of the world it removed my fears and reminded us of the beauty around us ... At my great age , when I spend many hours alone ... although I no longer travel, through music I can see the world "

Thankyou *Merivel, for sharing, and may your computer always recover.

Merivel · 04/04/2012 16:35

Oh lovely shodatin , thank you -another group hug , please
Will read rest of book & relay further insights < HF brings get well ThanksThanksThanks[thanks>

HF just amazed me by going up to her favourite perch- cum - bin - of - straw on the allotment and glaring at the pedigree tom who lives in corner house , currently sitting up there , till he meekly climbed down ( always thought he has a soft spot for her)

mint tea and usual Brew

shodatin · 04/04/2012 23:07

Thankyou Merivel for Thanks and also for description of HF (aka Top Cat from now on?) I understand that their pecking order does change quite often, so hope HF can continue to reclaim perching-post.
Mint tea is a brilliant idea. Yesterday's supper was a couple of clementines and a probiotic drink, so today I've decided to alter diet after nauseous morning and only had plain mints this evening (too cold and dark to pick one of the many outdoor mints now, altho no snow here).

Hope we all had enough spoons today - thanks to upward for todays good wishes on subject - and hope we're all able to have decent sleep tonight.

Merivel · 04/04/2012 23:34

Oh so sorry you 're suffering like this , shodatin and that it's been rotten weather too ( phew no snow ! ) Goodnight , hope you sleep peacefully < healing thoughts > We will try to hold your hand & offer helpful suggestions through this illness

Peacefuul-night thoughts to you upward < and Nilgiri
Grin at little female cat becoming Top Cat - defininitely the right title . She did a big play-act earlier making out ndt was about to bully her horriblyand I totally fell for it , as usual
< ndt hops onto end of shodatin's bed for comforting guard duty & for restoration of his pride >

< airies add more applewood to fire , warms rugs & plumps cushions >
< put out pot of choc for stargazers - amazing moonlight here tonight >

Merivel · 04/04/2012 23:45

< Returns to ask fairy to whisper to shodatin in her sleep to please not be shy of asking for another GP appt before weekend ,as being too nauseous to eat for days on end is not good for her , though she is probably waiting for latest treatment to help symptoms ... no one wants our lovely fFriend to feel mithered to to go back to doctorSad >

Nilgiri · 05/04/2012 00:10

Grin at HF's Poor Little Me act, Merivel! And just after a Queen of the Nile Strawbin act! That cat has everyone right where she wants them - under her claw!

Thank you so much for telling us about Alice Sommer-Hertz, whose name I hadn't heard before although I knew of the incredible work of the musicians in Theresienstadt.

Hope the mint tea was helpful, shodatin, and that tomorrow you will be able to step outside and gather some from the garden - snow permitting! I wondered if you'd had some along with Merivel's brief sleeting. Sunshine between slate grey skies here.

How tedious that there's no doc for a while, Upward. Thank you so much for spoony wishes.

Merivel · 05/04/2012 09:27

Good morrnning , lovely cybergardeners . Hope sleep was peaceful , especially that shodatin was OK overnight .
mint tea and Brews

My PM send has stopped working , so am trying different things with my computer

shodatin · 05/04/2012 09:49

Much better this a.m. thankyou, fellow-gardeners, and just usual temp.changes so am OK until next time.
(Had to let you know that good wishes were effective).
I'm sure GP would come out again but apart from agreeing with me about possible remedy as last time, I want to avoid possible hospital trip, which might be next on her agenda. (Must get well enough to complete blood tests, meanwhile, eating less is not really a problem as long as water increase maintained (GP's last advice).

This isn't an entertaining or useful subject, although I'm grateful for good wishes, I plan to stick to gardening posts from now on. (and get outside to garden today).

Hope things are not too bad upward, and you've managed to find some entertaining listening.
Off to brew some mint tea, and enough for all.

Merivel · 05/04/2012 11:25

So pleased you're feelng better, shodatin -not surprised all these good wishes help a bit Grin .
Dh had another go at computer quirks so will leave my medical-related ramblings for PMs if they work , if you don't mind

Thank you for plenty of delicious mint tea

Hope you feel up to chatting with fellow guests amd maybe friends via phone , upward

Wow , chilly damp day here but amazed that lots of youngsters are having the fun of a white Easter holiday - hope none of we cybergardeners are suffering unwanted snowiness

< ndt looks in cybergarden suspiciously , glad his strength of will has meant he hasn't had his spring moult yet >
Grin Grinat Queen of the Nile

SerialKipper · 05/04/2012 13:12

Brew! Thank you!

shodatin · 05/04/2012 13:47

It's hard to believe we've had so much snow so close to here, as it's another beautiful sunny morning and I enjoyed seeing more stars than usual yesterday evening.
Maybe ndt knows more than the Met Office, as he's still got a winter coat - do you know if he gets a serious brushing at this season? Remembering it took a couple of weeks to scratch the old fluff from beagle, who definitely felt the benefit, looking more snooty than usual. Neighbours' retriever, too nervous to accept pats, once edged closer to us at brushing-time,(on the riverbank), tail waving hopefully, but beagle wasn't sharing any beauty treatments and chased him away again.
Off to pick mint/s, before I forget. Hope we all have sunshine today (and that upward can get outside).

shodatin · 05/04/2012 17:23

Just an idea, Nilgiri, but do you have sufficient mint in your garden? I have ordinary (cooking variety) spearmint, and Morrocan mint (for tea), and would be happy to post piece of root (survivable indoors or out).
It doesn't need sun, of course, and grows anywhere.

Merivel · 05/04/2012 18:13

Sorry for long gap - managed to get to post office & to shop & of course v
busy , & met nice neighbour too

Awww at riverbank doggie wanting a brush , poor thing. Love mental picture of your hound putting on an air of snootiness at grooming time

ndt is indeed brushed most assiduously , though his human feels that the grit , fine stalks jetc he rolls around in only work themselves deeper into his coat . The other day she coated him finely in feline antiseptic feline talc to try to keep a small wound from becoming infected . I do think he has some control over his moulting, as have never known a cat so averse to cold & wet

Thank you Nilgiri for the link about Alice Herz-Sommers -profoundly humbling & inspiring people around her , and why aren't I surprised Vaclav Havel was a friend of hers - will read the book , & I think Dh recorded the programme last year about the musicians

There was a programme on BBC2 last night , shodatin , about English food , & Giles Coren was sampling -and -spitting different varieties of mint as the farmer was almost overcome with laughter.. I missed the part about turnips & will look it up on the i-player

Hope meals are edible , upward Brew

shodatin · 05/04/2012 20:38

I remember watching some of the food programme Merivel, as we were based in Norfolk for years. Mint had not been commercialised in Brundall when we were there, but there will be locals who remember beagle, and I remember a local friend packing up a Tupperware box of samphire and posting it to me in Yorkshire, as I missed it when season arrived and we'd returned North.
Programme had more about sugar-beet than turnips, which were only mentioned as rotation crop, and my friend's father immigrated from Holland when the featured factory increased production before 1939 war.

Nilgiri · 05/04/2012 22:36

Ooh, a mint root would be wonderful, shodatin! Thank you! My mints got rust a few years ago and I had to destroy, so now I only have applemint from nice neighbour. A spearmint or a Moroccan mint would be fantastic. Mint has its own shady spot here. In pots. On concrete. I know its rooty little ways...

And very glad today has been a little better for you.

Hope Upward has had a more bearable day too.

Loving all these tales of thickly coated fauna, and beagle possessive of his beautician's attention.

Merivel hope you get some sunshine in your part of the world.

Eyes closing here, so early night. Hope everyone sleeps well and wakes ready for the new day.

shodatin · 05/04/2012 23:48

Will send bit of both mints, Nilgiri. Spearmint is in pot for usual reasons, but is really too confined, Morrocan is in pot in border, which seems just right. Parking near PO will be problem near Easter so will plan to post after, and assume you know you'll get better, bigger plant if you put root in horizontally with only tiny bit of leaf above soil, (both plants mainly underground at present, of course.)
Previously-mentioned plants and seeds available to other cyber-gardeners of course.
Beagle was surprisingly vain, as well as jealous!
Must get to bed too, waves goodnight, bit hurried now.

shodatin · 06/04/2012 09:51

Morning all, Hope everyone else has sunny morning after a refreshing sleep (I'm same, thankyou, which is OK).
Hope upward particularly has managed to arrange some small festivity over holidays - at least after today there should be some inspiring music somewhere, although I do so frequently forget to look it up/turn on alarm in time to listen, and will admit to finding some television programmes just too harrowing in the past.

Am looking forward to starting another calligraphy project, but should really spend time in garden while I can.
Mint tea brewed in big mugs this morning, plus some of upward's specials, which will become whichever beverage one fancies at the time.[busmile]

Merivel · 06/04/2012 13:03

Good morning afternoon , with apologies for absence in evening & morning - unexpected snoozing Thank you for deliciousBrew[bgrin]at mint its rooty ways . Glad you're doing OK , shdatin .

What a fabulous coincidence you used to live in that very part of Norfolk , shodatin ! I'm sure old friends do indeed still think of you and hounds fondly . I don't know Norfolk but have family history visiting to do there as was home to lots of DM's ancestors - will ask you for tips when finally go there . What a shame they skipped over turnips - will watch on i-player as only caught half , & keep eye out for your friend's father's factory / sugar beet industry info in general .

Very sunny here - big treat as days of rain forecast - & cats requiring a whole hour of garden time with humans . Hope upward & Nilgiri getting some time outside .

Agree shodatin , some of the Easter reconstruction programmes are grim - had the 50s film on earler . I too am wondering if there is any beautiful Christain music for upward to listen to

Eeeek , sun's rays would help seed germinate seeds but so many I still haven't managed to sow , & want Dh to enjoy a drive out with his scarce time off - problems, problemsBlush
< looks at all tasks undone ,including dear friend's birthday as yet unmarked , & tries to stay awake >

Nilgiri · 06/04/2012 14:14

Sunshine! Blue! [bugrin]

After Easter sounds perfect, shodatin. And you can safely assume I'm a complete gardening idiot and need telling fairly basic stuff... [bublush]

shodatin · 06/04/2012 15:41

You really didn't miss much about turnips, Merivel, and sorry I did go on about the programme - just as well I didn't mention the turkey connection (house we wanted to buy had turkey "area" attached, a deal-breaker). So many people have passed away and passed on abroad with boats, few friends remain now, and must be 20 years since we were there, so doubt I could add anything useful, but do enquire by all means.
Sorry you've had the dormousing thing, so inconvenient isn't it, but you must have needed the rest and hope you feel refreshed if not up-to-date.

I don't think you're any kind of an idiot Nilgiri, just spent time doing other things than gardening until recently. I was lucky having friends who were real enthusiasts while I was a beginner, and happy to pass on their knowledge as well as cuttings and spares, like "Did Blank give you that plant?", "Yes he did, why?" "Thought so. All his stuff creeps". I'd been warned, again.
