Sorry been unfaithful, lots going on. But making myself useful - here's your new thread x

Trip to farmer's market sounds lovely Upward - are you planning something exciting to cook already, or do you take pot luck and get creative afterwards?

I do hope the visit tomorrow doesn't interfere with your plans.

Nothing exciting planned here, but that's good as I need the rest...

shodatin, you up to much?

Wonder how hob's been getting on?

Upwardandonward · 02/09/2011 19:33

I haven't been before, TIANC - the boards advertising it are only up on the Saturday morning (and I usually don't go that way), so I think it should be interesting just to have a look. I'm hoping to do some batch cooking over the weekend.

I hope that your rest happens, and that it's not too hot over the weekend.

shodatin · 02/09/2011 21:01

Yes, a perfect day here too, and wish I'd thought of iced lemon balm tea. Have cut about a third of ours back now, likewise mints, to have some new shoots before frost finishes them. I suppose it would be possible to pot up a few shoots for the winter - no greenhouse here, but garage is useful - altho it would be easier to buy it in packets for the next few months. Am assuming that it will continue to grow in the cybergarden, as we always have it.

Remembering last year's casualties over winter, have started taking cuttings of rosemary, sage etc. to avoid high cost of replacing ordinary plants in spring.
There's nothing like putting feet up in garden and making plans...
Must remember hobs advice to grow pak choi in pots very soon- my Thai friend was disappointed with her harvest a few years ago, and I'm pretty sure she didn't plant it in pots in the autumn.
Any more recommendations for autumn/winter containers?

Upwardandonward · 02/09/2011 21:22

I like all the garden discussion - sounds fun and worthwhile. :)

I hope the garage plans work, shodatin

hob , madmouse , kizzie , butterpie , TIANC hope you're all surviving.

shodatin · 02/09/2011 22:34

Bless you, upward, you must get fed up with the gardening stuff! I was wondering if you have any containers on window-sill or balcony etc? People can have some amazing stuff in apartments, probably as a result of careful thought and planning.
Farmers' Market sounds good, particularly if it's a new venture for you. At least the team will just be phoning, not making you re-arrange your day to see them.
What is "pinch punch first-of-the-month"- people actually hitting each other? Something new every day indeed....
Re: bag organiser, I saw one advertised on e-bay, which was probably made from plastic, just a few compartments really, so I've made them for various handbags, based on cereal-packet card and strengthened/prettied up with fabric and/or sticky-backed plastic. I need to carry so much stuff "in case" and hated having to scrabble around in a bagful of loose items.
No plans for weekend, apart from usual gardening and Skypeing, as DB might visit and I'm due out for lunch and shop on Monday, friend driving us to nearest city for a change.

shodatin · 03/09/2011 10:33

Another new day, and I don't remember saying goodnight on the last one.
Never mind - just hope it was a better experience for upward and there are fewer wakings with time. Also hope Tianc managed to recover from being over-energetic while feeling well enough, and that hob (isn't it quiet?) is being well and happy in another part of the universe.
Am postponing boring chore in town - sun shining so people will be flocking to the coast even more than usual weekend crowds and I've more than enough to do here. Let's all have a Brew while we sit down and think about it - a rough translation of DH's favourite Latin - hope everyone else is sorted.

shodatin · 03/09/2011 12:05

Patting self on back for successful trip to town, so can now relax and hope everyone else is having a good day, making hay while sun shines etc.

Tianc · 03/09/2011 20:20

Sun shining indeed!

Tianc · 03/09/2011 20:34

Oops, realised that could have sounded sarky - it wasn't. Sun blazing down here.

Glad your trip to town went well, hope you had a lovely relaxing day in the garden afterwards.

Sorry, fell asleep and forgot goodnights here, too.Blush But lovely rest today and so far no ill effects of exertions.

Upwardandonward · 03/09/2011 20:35

Excellent, shodatin relaxing sounds like a great plan :) Wikipedia suggests the rabbit thing and pinch, punch are the same thing.
My flat has wide windowsills, I would like to find stuff to grow there in time (listening to garden stuff is interesting). Visitor dropped by today, so I entertained instead of the farmers' market - there's always next week.

cityhobgoblin · 03/09/2011 22:59

Hi good people - entertaining sounds lovely , upward , & am excited to hear you fancy some windowsill gardening < plotting ideas alongside shodatin's garden planning>

Excellent that you braved the hordes early in the day shodatin so you'd be ready for DB 's possible visit . So pleased you're a bit less tired than you were after 'flu, & am interested as always in experiences of pacing / other techniques ..

Grin at "isn't it quiet" while I was away - I ought to have given you a longer rest from my chatter . Couldn't find a cyber cafe anywhere . Was amazed dh's back coped with long drive , as was dreading it seizing up & we being stranded with him in pain . Went to west Wales , which we love & miss all year round . < teleports cybergarden to hillside bathed in glorious sunshine & dancing with wildflowers, surrounded by picturesque buildings >

Oooo upward , you sound a good cook . We'd love to hear your favourite foods / recipes ... another thread I visit has much discussion about batch cooking. < stomach growls >

Brilliant that you have no ill effects atm from your efforts atm , Tianc . Am thrilled to hear you've felt up to more RL activity & that your family history efforts have been yielding such spectacular results .

Wishing a peaceful & starry night to us all
< still catching up with thread >

shodatin · 03/09/2011 23:24

Hope there's still some strawberry granita left Tianc, because I've not had this before, and it's still warm enough to be outside with a cool drink.
Thank you for looking up the rabbits/punches upward, will have a look myself and see how much more I've been missing from other parts of the country.

Wide windowsills just perfect for gardening, particularly herbs and cut-and-come-again-lettuce, so please let me know if there's anything I can send as a cutting or half-packet of seeds as my own area is now very small. Hob's right, we would be interested in what you're cooking.

Welcome back to hob - am so pleased all went well on your long journey, as I remember driving in Wales is real driving and requires real concentration, apart from being physically tiring and hard on one's back. Your DH did well.

Tianc · 04/09/2011 01:37

Strawberry granita idea pinched from Upward further up! And now real strawberries... You have such good food ideas, Upward.

hob! So good to see you again! And hurray for DH's back holding up. And also for your glorious weather. Hope it was a really lovely trip.

shodatin, "pinch punch" really is people hitting each other - sometimes really hard. I used to dread it at school. But tell us more about this Latinate "sit down and think about it". If involves Brew, it could become my new motto... Grin

shodatin · 04/09/2011 10:30

Morning all, a dull, grey morning here, noteworthy after so many sunny days.
Glad I've not come across "pinch-punch" as rabbit greeting is much nicer, altho one-up if remembered.
Sorry I can';t remember any more about the Latin but definitely does involve having a drink and works well when audience is expecting a solemn and wise quotation, even avoids possible arguments as someone always agrees. I really should remember, as it was the only one he ever used, but I didn't learn Latin.

shodatin · 04/09/2011 13:34

Just had a Skype conversation with brother, sister, niece, great-niece and barking dog, interrupted by phone conversation. We've figured out that we can manage three-way calling because sister is paying premium rate and using it for business contacts, but we can only see each other on a two-way system, like "Shodatin, you've changed into beagles" as I use a doggy photo for ID.
Have to go now, as more emails coming in...

cityhobgoblin · 04/09/2011 14:15

GrinGrinat beagley shodatin & at 5 humans plus vocal dog people packing into a Skype conversation . Oooooo, you have a great - niece , shodatin ? Is she old enough to burble coherently ? I bet you all want to wave to her on camera .

Thank you for welcome back & for thinking of dh's back . You're about that driving in Wales needing extra care , & of course walking / wheeling is much harder there too . We'd love to live there but favourite places are sooo hilly .... need to find a navigable area Grin

I too will have a look at some point to see if I can find that quotation of your dh's , shodatin - I didn't do Latin either but like Tianc I like the sound of the advice . Your mentions of dh evoke a very literary man , with good dry humour like yours.

Re: white rabbits , like Tianc , dh always ducks as siblings & schoolfriends would vie to sneak in a mean pinch & punch after the "white rabbits" . The retort was "a punch & a kick for being so quick " We always keep up the tradition < cruel >

Hope you slept better , upward , & not too stressed by team phone call / visit . Oooh yes , please do say if any particular crop appeals - wonder if you could try spinach varieties on wide sill . A cucumber plant is so pretty , & although they're not easy to grow indoors due to viruses , they don't seem to need high temperatures - others here will advise .
.
Sun has come out for us all , I hope , & I have lots of tasks - energisingBrewBrewBrewBrewBrew to all . Hope kizzie , madmouse butterpie & pixie are well

shodatin · 04/09/2011 22:36

Don't I sound old with a great-niece? She's about two, I think, and very interested in all the voices from the machine talking to her but of course baffled because she could only see Grannie and a couple of hounds on screen. I know she can walk, because her older sister packed their overnight bags a few weeks ago, and they walked to my sister's house, planning to stay a couple of days.

I'd be very happy if you could find DH's Latin quote hob, but never seen it anywhere else. I do miss his sense of humour still - always knew where he was in any gathering because of explosions of laughter, and I could rarely stay cross for the same reason. Enough reminiscing now, and will hand round some Brew, as it's hours since you did the honours and nearly nightcap time.

Tianc · 05/09/2011 01:40

Sorry not really posting today - more tomorrow I hope.

Night all, and sleep well.

shodatin · 05/09/2011 10:21

Hope you've recovered, Tianc, sorry I'd not realised the exhaustion had crept up again - take it easy for today, I would.
You got through the weekend just fine, upward, despite not going to Farmers' Market, and I hope all goes well for you this week, and you don't feel the team are being too intrusive.
Had a quick look at your other thread, hob (good for recipes!) and hope it's a good week for you too.
A miserable morning here, trying to rain, and I can't stop flushing, so will delay choosing what to wear for as long as possible.

cityhobgoblin · 05/09/2011 11:56

refreshing Brew for Tianc & shodatin & upward > Yes indeed , hope you feel less worn out today Tianc & that your discomfort has eased , shodatin .
.
Sorry sleep overtook me without saying goodnight .What brave & precocious small relatives , shodatin , trotting off on their own to stay with their GrannyGrin < faints > Hope their journey was only a few metres ! You are not sounding old by having great - nieces - my Mum was mid - 30s when hers started to arrive ( on far shores , like yours ) , & are a source of delight as adults , some also producing great - great- nieces & nephews now

Love your description of your dh's entertaining & cheering effect in company , shodatin , & can only imagine how you must miss hearing that . " I could rarely stay cross for the same reason " Grin Thank you for nightcapBrew .

Thinking of you today upward , & hope all lovely thread people have a good day .

Upwardandonward · 05/09/2011 13:41

I hope things start to settle/recede for you, TIANC and shodatin I hope your tasks are going well, hob

I'm a little on edge as I hadn't realised that the medics do pretty much the same as if you were inpatient if you're attending day hospital, i.e. a meeting between patient, medic and nurses...but at least it's done now.

Upwardandonward · 05/09/2011 13:43

I'm also feeling a little clueless - said something about CMHT having my meds rather than giving me a prescription - not sure what that means/how it works.

Upwardandonward · 05/09/2011 14:13

It seems like they want to supervise my meds :(

kizzie · 05/09/2011 16:29

Hi everyone - back from my final family weekend away for the summer. (we try and make sure the DC's spend as much time as possible with their grandparents evern though they are 300 miles away.)

Hope you are all well. Sounds like Shodatin is taking part in some kind of world record telethon every weekend :-)

Hi to TIANC and Hob

Upward very envious of all your thoughts of baking and having famers market nearby. Hope you get there next week - altho very nice to cancel plans because you've got a visitor (rather than because you've got to clean the cooker or some other boring job.) Sorry for your frustration with CMHT and medication - I imagine thats quite common - partic when someone getting used to the meds. If they do introduce it hope it doesnt impact on you too much.

Take Care e

shodatin · 05/09/2011 17:47

Don't worry upward, I remember the team sorting out my meds and getting them to me, saving me two trips to town - mine were just being helpful and I did appreciate it, but you're probably used to being independant. I remember being asked what they could do to make life easier for me, so I suggest you start thinking, just in case someone asks you the same thing Wink, but new bodies were not on offer.

My niece and her family are living close to my sister at present hob, so not too scary for children to visit alone, altho definitely discouraged. They have sold house and his business, and are renting locally in preparation for emigration, when my DS plans to go too, so they-re all getting used to Skype, checking passports, making plans etc.

Lovely that you can travel to visit grandparents, kizzie. Is it over for another year, or do you have Christmas get-togethers I wonder?
