Yep, watering drudgery underway here too, shodatin and both water butts empty already! Will need Plan B to keep cherry happy till it rains. Whatever Plan B is...

Ooh, have vague memories of toilet seat covers in rellies houses when I was small. I think I was scared of them!

And thank you for telling us about your brother; it's so shocking to hear the reality of a suicide attempt. Sad How utterly hideous for him and you. So very, very glad he's mending so well.

Hope everyone had sunny days.

snowmash, was thinking of you while eyeing up my gorgeous-smelling lavender. It's 7 ft tall, tied to fence/trellis, so pruning's always tricky and often missed in autumn.

cityhobgoblin · 06/05/2011 00:34

Shock Shock shodatin , how horrific for your family . I'm so glad your db iss able to actually enjoying aspects of life now . What inspiring points you make about complete recovery & excellent MH workers. I'm sure snowmash will like that.

Hope indeed that snowmash can visualise your luscious lavender , TIANC - big fave of mine - any idea of its age? ? Pruning Shock - you mean you even try ?

Had v stressful but pretty good day , & my Mum gave me some sweetcorn plants ! I'll never manage not to kill the poor things off but I've always wanted to try growing them.

Hope madmouse, pixie, kizzie and butterpie have had decent days & we all enjoy a soothing , lavender - scented sleep.

shodatin · 06/05/2011 11:25

Morning all, on this rather murky grey morning for a change. Glad your day went well hob and aren't you lucky with the gift of sweet-corn plants. Now why would you imagine you'll kill them off? Have never grown them myself, so best of luck for their survival.

Yes, I wanted snowmash to hear the good news about someone who'd come a long way, and realise these things happen all the time, in good time.

Your lavender sounds lovely TIANC, have never seen a plant so large, and I'd be interested in details too. We must - abracadabra - have a plant like this in our cyber-garden too. And some sweet-corn plants we can harvest and eat alfresco later on, with an American-style party (getting carried away here)

cityhobgoblin · 06/05/2011 14:59

Afternoon everyone & sorry to be so late yet again
GrinGrinat shodatin's alfresco party idea - lots of dips , please , & I bet TIANC likes Mexican food. The cybersweetcorn should look hilarious in our veg patch . Do you think we might sneak my weeny aubergine & pepper plants into the orangery ? This year I'm lacking an improvised greenhouse & doubt they'll ripen outdoors , & the "fruits" would be nice on our barbecue .
Sorry for too much gardening talk , snowmash... (shodatin , I doubt I'll have success with them as they got a bit parched this week , plus a genius gardenening friend always fails with them ) .

I'm sure snowmash will appreciate your message , shodatin, & I think you're right to have saved it till now. Many bahs at your cloud up there earlier & hope it cleared

Hope TIANC is having a good day - any chance of a piccie of your uberlavender, please , sometime?

Hope kizzie, madmouse , pixie and all friends are well and getting to spend some time in the fresh air

ThisIsANiceCage · 06/05/2011 22:18

Ooh, how did you know I like Mexican food, hob? Yum yum!

Definitely up for an alfresco meal in the warm weather, shodatin! And I love the idea of veg pots in the orangery. Fingers crossed for hob's sweet corn plants.

And I have a total Language Fail to confess: what I meant to say yesterday wasn't lavender but rosemary! Blush

I do know the difference, honest! And frequently cook with the one and cut the other for drying! Complete brain failure yesterday.

Anyway, will take pics of Rosemary (the tall elderly lady) and the strawberries tomorrow...

Now remind me, a camera is a round object that plays music, right?

shodatin · 06/05/2011 23:00

Oh TIANC, I'm so disappointed about the lavender! That would have been really special, altho it's true that a rosemary shrub that height seems a bit of a rareity too - you must have been doing something right, and for a long time.

Hob, there is one bit of advice I remember from the days when people first started to grow sweetcorn in this country - that they should be planted close enough to cross-pollinate the heads, and best pattern is in squares, not rows. Sorry if you know about this - grannies and eggs etc - but I thought this hint might have been forgotten over the years.

ThisIsANiceCage · 06/05/2011 23:58

BlushBlush to have caused such excitement and disappointment...

Nevermind. Cybergarden can have a giant abracadabra lavender! What on earth will it look like? And the smell will be heavenly!

Taking confuddled head to bed. Hope everyone sleeps well and has either good honest rain or clear blue skies tomorrow.

shodatin · 07/05/2011 00:55

Of course we can have our own huge cyber-lavender - my own brain's confused. Good night all, including Snowmash and other absent friends.

cityhobgoblin · 07/05/2011 06:21

Grin at "wonders if similar moments have occurred during pruning . Which would explain a lot. " There there, TIANC - our thread has its own special flavour due to our bouts of befuddlement ! Such a venerable rosemary is as surprising to me as a lavender , & fragrant too . I've become obsessed with my miniature version & its exquisite little flowers, which remind me of irises or orchids .

So sorry to keep falling asleep before saying goodnight - I'll sort this out - & hope everyone slept well - hot & full of lightning round here.

Thank you so much shodatin for your sweetcorn advice . They're still waiting to go in the veg patch & yesterday I was racking my brains as to why I'd seen them planted in an unusual pattern on allotments - meant to look it up , but forgot as didn't seem important . If they get pollinated thanks to you I'll send you one of the resulting cobs in the post Grin ( for a really north American feel , I could hang it & dry it for you - can you pop the corn then ? )

Had workmen round since Thurs at almost no notice , hopefully finishing today - phew , v hard work trying to chat & have house tidy enough - ahem. Did you have any positive news about your messed - about solar electrics , TIANC ? I fear not Sad

Hope our lovely snowmash , *madmouse , kizzie , pixie ( busy Sat morning for you ) & butterpie have a good morning

shodatin · 07/05/2011 09:57

Morning all, minus sun here but I don't mind as I've Man No.3 visiting to give a quote for a house repair due since the winter.
So glad the garden tip was useful - it's amazing what stays in one's head, and I do agree about the special flavour of this thread as we forget stuff.
Wish I knew more about corn, but it's years since I was in America and to me it was hen-food which I ate politely, but the various "bakes " and barbecues were good. I appreciate the thought of having some corn (said politely)...

Hope we all have a good weekend. Still hoping to hear from snowmash.

cityhobgoblin · 07/05/2011 16:22

Afternoon all , hoping for snowmash as you say , *shodatin . Ooooh , I'd love to go to an authentic bake - Grin at henfood . Where in the US did you visit , if you feel like reminiscing ?
Hope that the quote is worth considering - is that the work you said you needed to get round to ?

Right , been very busy & a bit more to do . .Brew Brew Brew Brew BrewBiscuit Biscuit & dried apricots ... am tempted to put out a whole buffet of savoury nibbles < growling stomach >

Hope TIANC & all on snowmash's thread are having a good Saturday

kizzie · 07/05/2011 17:28

Hi everyone - lots of rain here today. I put out grass seed during the week to fill in some patches so hopefully will help with that.

Came down to earth with a bit of a bump today after a week of 'normal' days. Just getting on with life - feeling like myself. As my probs originally started with PND its quite likely that hormones playing a big part now. Im 41 and GP think im in perimenopause which she says can go on for 10 years (!). Anyway going to keep detailed diary for a few months to see if any major patterns emerge with mood.

Sorry for all me, me, me Blush.

Hope you're all having a good saturday x

shodatin · 07/05/2011 20:20

Hello again Kizzie, sorry life's been difficult with the hormones, but at least once you get a diagnosis there is help. I had a long change after me op., but sailed through it with help, and you can too. Thanks for letting us know, and best of luck with the grass-seed (no rain here yet)

Thanks hob, the quote was worthwhile at around what I thought it should be, much less than previous two, and am happy with man himself, who is well-qualified.

I was in the American mid-west, but it was a long time ago and reminiscences will be in my book -not all that interesting.
Yes, I had some writing overdue until recently, and may be overdue here at any time, as am having laptop problems today and everything takes a long time.

shodatin · 08/05/2011 00:00

Am about to give up trying to operate laptop for today, so will wish a
goodnight to all.
Hope life is improving for snowmash (and others having a difficult time)

ThisIsANiceCage · 08/05/2011 01:51
shodatin · 08/05/2011 11:22

Good morning all, and apologies to TIANC for rambling about writing, it's not professional this time, but I do get behind and it bothers me, take no notice, it's just me rabbitting.

Would really love to see the photos, but no urgency of course.

All best wishes with your building work, and hope hob,s work goes smoothly now. I can't wait to have mine completed, as I'm making plans for the next expensive project, which will be more fun - maintenance is just so boring as well as stressfull for me.

Here comes the sun! Hope we all have a good day.

kizzie · 08/05/2011 13:04

Good luck with the building work. As irritataing as it is at the time (and it really IS irritating :)) its worth it in the end. Agree bad days after a string of good ones can hit even harder because coping skills not as primed. But good to have the better days anyway :)

And a hello to snowmash if you are reading this. Hope everyone is taking really good care of you and giving you good support x

shodatin · 08/05/2011 13:19

Morning kizzie, thanks for sympathies about builders, don't you always forget how awful it was last time and get carried away with enthusiasm?

Hope this is a good day for you, and I'll join you in your good wishes for our
snowmash as we're all missing news of her.

Lovely sunshine now, so am off outside to see how much rain we had, people keep telling me about it so hope we can stop watering for a while. (sorry to go on about gardening again, but it's the season)

cityhobgoblin · 08/05/2011 18:07

Hi all- sorry, been sleeping & sleeping after busy week ! What a lot of interesting news from everyone - we all wish we could know if snowmash is still around , & hope things are gradually improving for her.

Sorry for your dip ,kizzie,& don't lose heart about the perimenopause as so many sites full of advice out there - we have options ! maybe your GP didn't have time to mention positive stuff - bah.

Really sorry variation in bad days is so hard TIANC ,
& I hope your courage is well screwed to its place for GP visit , but that it will turn out not to have been needed. Hmm, am I trying to suggest , maybe change the appointment if it coincides with a bad day ? I 'm sure you're highly adept at dealing with docs but I don't want you to feel disappointed if they don't come up with bright ideas ..sorry , am sure you have the latest info.

How fabulous about your writing, shodatin , & good luck wih infuriating laptop problems. Midwest must have been an unforgettable experience.

So glad you liked 3rd quote . Hope will be worth while , as kizzie says. Thank you for crossed fingers & warm thoughts , tianc ! Done for now & hope workmen don't snitch to landlady about long grass Blush

Don't worry about non professional piccies , TIANC ! We'll love seeing them.

Sorry for everything have left out. Garden happy today -- plants still flooded ! Baking hot . Hope madmouse, pixie and butterpie are well

shodatin · 09/05/2011 00:04

Thanks for posting hob, you do so well to manage so much with the sleep problem, and not just on this thread. I do hope it improves with time, but meanwhile please don't apologise if you can't do as muchas you wish.

Wish I could do more at the moment, but will retire now as a busy day tomorrow, goodnight all and hope we wake refreshed at the right time.

ThisIsANiceCage · 09/05/2011 00:28

Hey there. Looks like lots of us have been outside enjoying the lovely weather.

showmash, hope you've been out in it too. I wonder if your smokers' area has green and growing things to enjoy on days when you can't get properly outside? (If you're still an inpatient, of course.)

shodatin, it's wonderful to hear you still feel able to write. Sorry about putting you on the spot with that.

kizzie, like you say, definitely better to have good days anyway!

And hob, thank you for so clever thoughts about GPs. I was actually burbling about kizzie's diary & GP, but will file your extremely sensible ideas for reference! (I try to make decisions and plan on good days, so on bad days answers like yours are ready to hand.)

And, erm, don't know whether to say this, in case it sounds like crowing when others are struggling... But I feel a right old fraud when you lovely people are sympathetic - because I've been so well recently I forget I've ever been ill! (Just around the house & garden, anyway.) I'm so, so, so lucky, I know and appreciate this so much.

So I'm the cybergarden's lightweight at the moment!

Hope everyone has had a good day in the cybergarden. I know Sundays are the madmouse household's busy day, I hope today's gone well.

to Pixie clan, butterpie and any visitors!

ThisIsANiceCage · 09/05/2011 01:31

Glad you've been catching up on rest, hob. Completely agree with shodatin about how much you doing so much.

shodatin hope your busy day tomorrow goes well.

Wishing everyone peaceful and invigorating sleep. Night all.

shodatin · 09/05/2011 10:01

Good morning again, and thanks to TIANC for last two posts.
Am so pleased you feel well again; it means at least one of us is awake most of the time, knows what day it is etc etc, and for those of us struggling a bit, hope today's better and we can pat selves on back in the e
vening

I do hope you're still looking in snowmash - still thinking of you x

kizzie · 09/05/2011 14:48

TIANC thats really great news Smile

shodatin · 09/05/2011 22:24

Hello people, just looking into garden before bedtime. Today went quite well, apart from a couple telling me I'd damaged their car door when getting out of my own. I didn't feel anything, but there is definitely a small mark which could have been caused by my door, so had to give insurance details and still feel shaken by one of them being unpleasant. Glad I was not alone.

So glad today is over, and have someone coming to (hopefully) fix laptop first thing. Seems someone sent me a trojan horse virus this morning, altho this seems to have been fixed (closed?) by helpful visitor.

Hope everyone else had a better day. Hope snowmash has a good talk with consultant tomorrow, if he's still due Tuesdays.
