hello Smile

Hi kizzie, glad you're able to have a relaxing weekend. A journal's an excellent idea, and you seem to have an understanding GP, so maybe you could try something helpful for hormones in the future. After the first hot flush experience I tried patches and evening primrose capsules, with wonderful results, so it doesn't have to get worse, it just might get better!

Hope your plants are doing well now and you're not worn out with watering.

shodatin · 03/07/2011 00:23

Have to go now, before nose reaches keyboard again, so will wish a good night to all.

ThisIsANiceCage · 03/07/2011 00:49

Ha, I too have done crowd avoidance today - but cake came to me! Slice of Black Forest, one of the 70s' better clichés. (Ta, DP.)

Sorry you've had a dodgy few days, kizzie. Glad the surrounding weeks have been better tho.

I'm also nose-in-keyboard, so will wish everyone a good night's sleep and good days tomorrow.

cityhobgoblin · 03/07/2011 12:06

Morning all, and thank you shodatin and TIANC for making the effort as always despite being exhausted.

Sorry you couldn't go out yesterday TIANC, and well done on the cake front , DP ...Black Forest a big favourite in this house too . Hope you can enjoy today with DP . Just realised your long post on Friday night didn't show up for me , for some reason ,nor shodatin',s & thank you for revivingBrew - here's a refreshing herbal or caffeinatedBrew.

What a brilliant idea , to have a hive in our cybrgarden - shodatin, your Norfolk friend saving good stories for her bees has made me very happy . I've never ben sure of the ethics of taking honey ( would like to be vegan but haven't managed it yet ) but in these difficult times for bees it seems particularly good to keep them . There are two hives newly installed on the allotments here , & I love peeking at the keepers lifting up the frames of bees.

You are a such a cheering presence kizzie , & sorry for rough few days . Hope the journal brings answers , & very comforting to hear shodatin's reassurance ... saw a good book on all aspects of perimenopause - will look for it to link .
Glad you've been relaxing & enjoying tennis ...am not fond of the way Wimbledon crowds sometimes behave when with forriners play home players but felt sorry for Murray . Another on who missed at least one of the Williams sisters in the women's final .

Your toilings with laptop are very inspiring shodatin but agree garden is beguiling , though sorry to hear it's a touch dull for you . How about headphones and a good audiobook about nature ... I know you don't want to spoil the tranquility of the outdoor experience but that would be in the spirit of the surroundings .

Hope snowmash is able to go for an outside visit this weekend , or have pleasant company . Would be so good if she could get to a sung service .

So sorry for length. herbalBrewBrew and iced Brew and homemade lemonade

kizzie · 03/07/2011 16:25

Thank you for all the reassurance and interest in perimenopause. i might pick your brains a bit more on what you did shodatin. And would be interested to see link to that book hob.

shodatin · 03/07/2011 20:53

Hello again, I seem to have had a busy day, not the usual Sunday at all, just very involved in setting up Chrome browser (never done one before)

Kizzie, you're welcome to ask away, or we can PM on private stuff. I did have an older friend to help and understand through change, which was useful without family.

Glad you got the cake, TIANC, even better when someone presents you with it, lucky you.

Hob, I've already admitted to being backward on cyber-stuff, well, I've never actually heard an audio-book either, just never needed one....I put my first CD in backwards then had to pay huge amount for someone to get it out, am really not safe around modern gadgets (no headphones either). Am more at home cutting a quill-pen and mixing inks actually, which is probably why computers passed me by until recently. Am I really inspiring?
I do agree with you about snowmash, who must be missing her music.

cityhobgoblin · 03/07/2011 23:51

You are indeed most inspiring , shodatinSmile...I know people with computer qualifications coming out of their ears who dread the dull , timeconsuming process of installing applications on a PC , or whatever the terms are - there are a few features which could be better ddeesigned for the consumer . Hope Chrome will work well for you .

Aha - when I say audiobook , I was thinking more in terms of a cassette Walkman & tapes Grin but I think now it's a case of downloading them free from your local library's site from your laptop to your MP3 player , ( I don't have one either but am tempted as they're affordable now ) . I find audiobooks are still good when your attention is unfortunately patchy . Hope you get some of your usual Sunday rest & socialising in next week .

Hikizzie , here are a couple - saw the 2nd one in a booksshop & was pretty impressed , though the symptoms it lists in the blurb are depressing , & the fancy hormonal treatments are based on US private insurance rather than NHS resources-
*www.hormonesurvival.com/book.htmlwww.amazon.com/Could-Be-Perimenopause-Forgetfulness-Dysfunction-Imbalance/dp/0316319457 This one might not be quite so reputable ,but www.survivingperimenopause.com/ No idea if this site is OKwww.perimenopausesymptoms.org/symptoms/perimenopause-anxiety-attacks

Hope TIANC is OK today , and that madmouse hasn't felt extra stressed by how busy Sundays are for her family , & that mouseling is well

shodatin · 04/07/2011 00:47

Thanks, hob, you always make me feel better, although I did have to uninstall one of the "simple" ones as just couldn't figure out how it worked.
That's all for today, so will wish everyone a goodnight, and a Brew if required.

ThisIsANiceCage · 04/07/2011 01:22

shodatin, definitely inspiring that you get to grips with technology. Smile I've avoided this my whole life, one way or another, and throw major sulks when DP installs "improved" updated software that doesn't work v well. In fact . Blush

Hope your browser installation goes OK this time.

Fascinated that your friend tells things to her bees - sure I've heard of that custom, but it's amazing to hear of it still being kept up.

Thank you for your lovely long post, hob! Hope you've been having a good day.

Lovely sleepy day, so not a lot to report here! But I hope everyone has been enjoying good weather.

Take care, all. And sleep well.

kizzie · 04/07/2011 09:55

Hob - thank you so much for all of those details. Will have a look through - really kind of you.

Shodatin - its makes such a difference doeant it having someone lead the way a little with whatever it is - whether they are family or friends.

Have a good day everyone x

shodatin · 04/07/2011 10:38

Morning all - TIANC I loved the cat v.printer video - DB's been having printer problems so this is what I sent him, but no comment yet. Probably too cross.

Friend who had bees also taught me gardening, carpentry and general recycling, years before her time, and just naturally talked to all animals, usually in English and sometimes in native Dutch. Her visiting cousin once had long conversation with my beagle, who loved every minute of it, so talking to bees seemed natural. She did tell me it was an old tradition, and possibly worked as one was making friends with them and they were less likely to sting if they recognised the person at the hive.
Thanks for good wishes people - hope everyone has a good week (with sufficient rain)

cityhobgoblin · 04/07/2011 23:31

Evening everyone , sorry for being so rushed & disorganised I didn't manage to say hello earlier .
Absolutely overjoyed to get a glimpse of TIANC at last ,and at her determined best < soft kitty beanbag for cross , bruised TIANC > Hope you've had a good day.

Thanks you all for patience with linking mistakes , & I hope you too had a good day , kizzie.

You are making me very happy shodatin with your bee whisperer friend & now the way your beagle enjoyed chatting with her cousin[smile ]. Is this the dog who sadly had a very short life ? I know how lasting the positive effect of a beloved animal is . My niece & nephew have a beagle & it's an incredibly strong dog with lots of hunting instincts , totally unlike any other dog I've known .
( btw shodatin , have you been continuing to trying to increasing the dosage of one of your medicines - it was making you feel awful , even one day a week ? Hope you're OK, as that eexperiment may be impossible to continue in the v hot weather)

Hope all lovely people of the thread are OK , and we're all sending thoughts & prayers to you , snowmash

cityhobgoblin · 04/07/2011 23:33

Oh yes shodatin, I left out what I meant to ask you yesterday - please tell us how you employ your quill & inks ! Do you do calligraphy ? I think you may have mmentioned something abouat it in the spring .

shodatin · 04/07/2011 23:52

Hello hob, am so pleased someone's amused by rambling reminiscences (is that a word?). No, it was his twin who had a road accident, unfortunately, and we got to know each other very well. Someone told me a quote which I found to be true, and possibly your niece and nephew would agree: "A beagle's a hound, and it's never a dog". They just look like dogs, and are clever in some unusual ways, or as DH used to put it "..a sodding imitation of a dog" when sorely tried, but also lots of fun.
Thanks for kind enquiry re drug increase, but have not been able to manage any more yet, actually, I keep forgetting, so glad of reminder and will try again on next "home" day.

Hope TIANC and co-posters are keeping well and enjoying the weather. My one courgette has increased to double amount of leaves and three flower-buds since I last looked, which is amazingly fast.
A good night to all, and yes, thoughts go to snowmash.

ThisIsANiceCage · 05/07/2011 00:01

Aargh! Came on to post - and then leapt outside with a watering can in the dark, thanks to your rain comment, shodatin! My poor plants, gasping for a drink.Blush

Oh dear, hope DB's printer has yielded to crude violence eloquent persuasion by now. And ditto your computer.

I've just looked up more about bee customs, and it seems telling them of a death in the family was an important custom in Germany and perhaps across much of Europe, as it was believed the bees would grieve for their humans. Bee Wilson, in The Hive: The Story of the Honeybee and Us, claims this derives from pre-Christian beliefs that bees were actually human souls.

More to the point, what a fabulous woman your Dutch friend sounds!

Another busy gardening day here, and builder due (again!) tomorrow. Hope I've left enough in the tank to cope with them, so to speak... Twas the lovely weather lured me today, m'lud.

Hope everyone else has had as good a day as possible. Kizzie, hope the shakiness has settled down a bit now. Good luck with finding out causes and ways to ease it.

madmouse, snowmash, hob, butterpie and visitors, hope things have gone well for us all. Here's wishing us all decent rest tonight, and a good day tomorrow.

shodatin · 05/07/2011 15:41

Hello TIANC, hope you're not overdoing it, as this watering business is very tiring, I find. Have known Dutch friend most of my life, we used to be neighbours but sadly she's now in residential home and too distant to visit but we are regularly in touch and remember our adventures.

Hob I did study calligraphy for years, as part of art class. It was something to do on most comfortable kneeling stool and can recommend it for the physically challenged. Hope you're enjoying the warm weather today.

cityhobgoblin · 05/07/2011 15:48

Afternoon all ! Prolonged rain here so I hope you've all had the same for your gardens - watering was becoming v unmamageable < greedy hob planted too much > Isn't it exciting when plants double in size suddenly , shodatin

Brilliant to hear you were able to do lots of gardening yesterday , TIANC , and I hope you'll still have some energy left after builder's visit . Thank you for magnificent bee traditions - that one of telling the bees about a bereavement is kept going round these parts !

I've no doubt bees do grieve humans they're fond of , though I like to think they can see / sense said human visiting them in otherworldly guise to check on their welfare . ( ahem , sorry )
So , when is our hive & equipment due to arrive in the cybergarden? Getting very excited - will we need a rota ? - a cyber one in which no harm comes to the bees if we miss a visit , of course < off to look up Bee wilson book >

We enjoy your reminiscences very much , shodatin, and I'm so glad you had your beagle's twin to console you and to get to know over a decent period . You're exactly right about them being hounds , rather than dogs , & I can picture just the sort of provocation that made your dh say that Grin. They are ludicrously good fun to play with -this one allows himself to be v gently spun round on his back on a polished floor , poor thing , for the amusement of his young humans . Very impressed at your patience at the huge effort they - they seem to have the enegy of whole classrooms of excited children .

Perhaps it's a good job you weren't trying to increase dosage in the fiercely hot weather & you'll find a more amenable time to ry again . Hope your DB's printer problems are solved ( still laughing at poor puss ).

shodatin · 05/07/2011 22:08

Thanks for news of your family's beagle, hob, they do indeed like to play, in fact, when we lost one, the remaining hound used to go off by himself and return at same time every morning - a mystery for some weeks, until we heard he was visiting the local primary school at break time, and joining in with games. (We were on private land, surrounded by neighbours who knew beagle and said they liked his visits, including couple who heard noise in their caravan bedroom and crept in with rolling-pin, to find him on his back and snoring blissfully on their bed).
Have just checked weather forecast, and see rain due until Monday, which I hope means an end to watering this year (apart from half-dozen pots).
Still no comment from DB about printer -or cat. Does your cat show any interest in printers?

ThisIsANiceCage · 05/07/2011 23:43

Oh, X-posted with you all last night! Here, have some Brew before I do it again.

ThisIsANiceCage · 06/07/2011 00:23

shodatin I've just laughed out loud at your DH's "..a sodding imitation of a dog". Grin Sorry one of the beagles had such an untimely end; sounds like the other was a fantastic character!

Ohhh, yes, the sleeping in strange places and the visiting! I'd completely forgotten till you said that - but DP's parents had a beagle who did exactly the same! In fact, he used to combine these pastimes and clamber into bed with random neighbours of a morn. God knows how he got in - think it was the days when the milkman poured milk into a jug left out in the kitchen.

How brill that you have a friendly hound in the family too, hob!

ThisIsANiceCage · 06/07/2011 01:01

I have only a cybercat, here in the garden (or maybe I am one?). I bet hob's felines get into more than enough trouble for all!

ThisIsANiceCage · 06/07/2011 01:17

snowmash hope you've been having a reasonable day. Rain here at last - I wonder if you or shodatin got any?

kizzie how's today been?

madmouse, butterpie, Pixie, thinking of you all.

shodatin · 06/07/2011 01:24

A really lovely beagle story TIANC, and I can just imagine it happening, so thankyou. Am so pleased you've enjoyed the physical labour again, and long may it continue.
I'll have another go with extra dosage soon. Just heard a neighbour is about to start on same cancer treatment I had, so can't feel sorry for myself any more.
I'll say "goodnight" now, and hope we all have a peaceful night.
