As promised, here's the new thread for us long fasters as the old one is nearly full.
Check in when you are able and let us know how you're doing!

@fastingaway I wouldn’t worry about a little milk in coffee if it keeps you going.

I intend to have another fast (see if I can get to 72hrs) on 1st July all going well. I will have the house to myself again.

I low carb too but not strict, I avoid bread, rice, pasta but do eat potatoes and carby veg.

fastingaway · 11/06/2025 21:31

@Flibbertyjibbertyi find how easy or difficult a 36 hr fast is depends on what i eat the night before, what time i start the fast (ideally early) and the mindset on the fasting day i.e. I need to be quite decisive and intentional. I have had difficult fasting days and the taking 2hrs at a time does really help me too plus lots of sparkling water.

I think you are all doing more low carb than me - it’s the hardest thing for me as requires consistent meal planning. @Halfpenny58none of my family ever seem to leave me alone for a longer fast. Good luck for the fast at the end of the month. What do you do in between?

Halfpenny58 · 12/06/2025 12:06

@fastingaway I do OMAD, one milky coffee late morning and then dinner at 6pm, big plateful. I know I have said this before but I am 58 and retired, no way could I fasted when the children were younger.

126orbust · 12/06/2025 15:31

Sorry to drop off the thread for a week. Our house has been like Piccadilly Circus since we got back from holiday but now everyone has gone away so as of 8pm yesterday I am back on the trail and I am so so so hungry this last hour. I have had three pints of water since 12pm which usually helps and a cup of tea(with a splash of milk) but no good so I think if i get to 8pm tonight i will be doing well.
i may be finding it harder today as DH and I sat in the garden for a few hours last night and there was win, crisps and pasta.
Anyhow I will keep going .....

126orbust · 12/06/2025 15:33

Makes it sound like I couldn't wait to get rid of my family and friends which is not true - just a lot easier to fast when I am not making food for the troops.
Also it was wine we had not win!

fastingaway · 13/06/2025 21:05

Hope the fast went well yesterday @126orbust. made it 41 hours today but there will be some wine with dinner tonight.

126orbust · 13/06/2025 22:36

Thanks @fastingaway I made it to 7.45 and had dinner with DH so I'll call that 24hrs. Well done on 41, I really need to do something similar midweek and shed a few more lbs.
it has been such a glorious day here today that we gardened, walked and barbequed and were outside from 8.30am to 9pm. Gave ourselves a complete day off. No wine was had but lots of lovely food and hoping to do the same tomorrow too.

Flibbertyjibberty · 14/06/2025 07:54

Great work on the fasts people! I did 26 hours yesterday and it went surprisingly well - I was in the office though so fewer food distractions. Someone did comment on how much green tea I drank.

fastingaway · 17/06/2025 19:02

Solid fast there @Flibbertyjibberty

I’ve just broken my fast at just over 46 hours. I really wasnt hungry at all and could have kept myself occupied further. But decided that after a long day at work I liked the idea of sitting down and enjoying food. So much of food and meals is associated with routines and treats.

anybody else fasting this week? I may attempt another one later this week but maybe shorter.

Flibbertyjibberty · 18/06/2025 05:47

@fastingaway great work there! It’s interesting how some days you feel like you could keep going - I’ve had that once or twice but stopped anyway simply because I wanted to. It just goes to show how much of it is mental rather than physical! I’m fasting today, going into the office where I will be much more distracted. Aiming for 42ish I think. The cat woke me up at 5 though and I won’t get home from work until about 10pm so today is going to be a long day!!

Halfpenny58 · 18/06/2025 13:18

I am going out n holiday for a few days from Friday so won’t be fasting. I intend to do a longer fast if I can on 1st July.

fastingaway · 18/06/2025 21:09

@Flibbertyjibbertyhope today is going well. Impressed with you fasting during such a long day at work. You got this. Have a good holiday @Halfpenny58

have closed the kitchen now and hoping to fast tomorrow. Will need to stay hydrated as forecast is hot hot hot

fastingaway · 19/06/2025 20:37

Made it to 20 hours today but decided to break the fast as it was a hard day at work plus really hot. OH made dinner and opened a bottle of wine.

Flibbertyjibberty · 24/06/2025 21:41

Hello, just popping on to say hope everyone is doing okay. I finished another 42 hour fast today and it was my easiest one yet, they do seem to be getting easier as the weeks go by. When I first started all this I could barely keep my eyes open on the morning of day two, today I managed an interval run session then half a hour of weights. I didn’t ever think I’d get that far! So there is hope if you are finding it tough. Have a good week all and happy fasting (if anyone is doing any!)

hobbledyhoy · 25/06/2025 11:43

Hi all, hope you don’t mind me joining an established thread.
been doing 16/20hr fasts for quite some time and have been planning a longer one but never quite managed it.
Had a tooth taken out so using it to my advantage to try a 36hr fast!
Any support or tips very welcome. I’m very impressed some have been able to do 42hrs.

Flibbertyjibberty · 25/06/2025 21:49

Hi @hobbledyhoy are you fasting today? Having a tooth out will be a good distraction! Hope it’s not too painful though. The only tips I have really are to drink unflavoured fasting-friendly electrolytes and keep busy. Stay out of the kitchen at dinner time, a walk often helps, and get an early night. I usually struggle the most around the 24-hour mark but once I get past that it feels easier. Maybe because I’m soon going to bed?! Let us know how you get on!!

hobbledyhoy · 26/06/2025 08:46

Thanks @FlibbertyjibbertyI lasted 24hrs but then cracked and had some yoghurt!
My mouth is so sore today that I don’t think it’ll be too difficult to be put off eating. 😭

fastingaway · 26/06/2025 19:36

Welcome @hobbledyhoya 24 hour fast is really good. Now that you have done it you’ll be able to build up from there if you want. Hope the soreness lessens.

well done on the 42 earlier this week. @Flibbertyjibberty

i only managed a 23 hour on Monday with one meal over 20 mins. Not been able to fast for the rest of the week but have been mindful of what I am meeting.

I would really like to be able to do one 72 hour or even one 60 hour fast - purely for the health benefits and reversing insulin resistance. For anybody who has managed that did you build up to it or just went for it.

Jollyjoy · 26/06/2025 23:11

Wow I haven’t been on in a while and see the thread has been v active! Wonderful. I continue to be completely off the fasting wagon and want to get back in but finding it hard. Especially now school holidays have started. Anyone else had a break and share what helped them get back in?

Flibbertyjibberty · 01/07/2025 06:10

@jollyjoyI’ve not had a proper break but I did take a month off recently and what got me back into it was weight loss! I weigh daily and do a weekly average. If I chuck in a long fast a week my weight keeps going down (about a pound a week but better than nothing!). If I stick to TRE it tends to stabilise. I guess it depends on your motivation though, if I wasn’t trying to lose weight I may find it harder to keep going!! The hot weather is helping a bit as I am just not getting hungry… too hot and sticky

zanahoria · 01/07/2025 14:10

I am 39 hours into a fast.

I have done a few before and found them very useful for losing weight. I lost 20 pounds when I did several in March/April and only put a few back on. My cholesterol also fell significantly from 5.1 (the previous year) to 4.2. I have it checked with my blood sugar every year as I have diabetes, although that has been in remission for eight years - blood sugar 39 this year but always somewhere in the 30s. I read that fasting is an excellent way to rejuvenate the liver and this seems evidence for that theory. I hope so, the diabetes is under control but I need all the help I can get.

The longest I have done before was 96 hours. I had several people ask me how did it. The honest answer is that I did not know. I had done intermittent fasting for a year or so and one fast of 36 hours and that was all I had intended on doing but I felt good so kept on .... and on ... and on. It was a peculiar feeling akin to visiting a strange country for the first time. I kept thinking of The Red Queen from Alice who believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast. It certainly seemed impossible to believe I had not eaten for all that time and breakfast never came.

I did a few more but then had a break for a couple of months. I tried a few time but each time got hungry before 24 hours. I like fasting but do not want to push it too hard. If it happens, it happens. If not I will eat something.

Right now, it is probably boredom that will send me to the fridge to retrieve the remains of a chickpea curry that I made on Sunday. If I keep on going any longer I will have to throw it out.

Halfpenny58 · 02/07/2025 11:17

Hi all, back from my holiday and 25 hours into a water fast. My longest fast was 64 hours, I lost 11 lbs and didn’t put it back on for months. I am just going to see how I go this time around, I feel rough and need a reset. @zanahoria good luck with your fast.

Halfpenny58 · 02/07/2025 11:49

Correction! I am 13 hours into fast not 23 hours! This doesn’t bode well 😂.

Just finished

66 hours and out

I was feeling good all day but just had a feeling I would not get to sleep if I didn't eat

Hope yours goes well

Halfpenny58 · 03/07/2025 10:27

Well done @zanahoria , how do you feel today? I am still going but will probably break fast at the 42 mark as teenager now needs me to drive them somewhere later today which will take an hour. I feel much better but am a slightly nervous driver (after 20 years!) and don’t like to drive far while fasting.
