Anyone up for supporting each other with 36 hour fasts?

As a midlife / perimenopausal woman these worked brilliantly for me in the summer and I managed to lose my first stone. I'm completely convinced by the health benefits and would like to get back in to them, but can't break through the struggle at the 21hr-ish mark. OMAD is no problem, I just want to hit the 36-hour fast.

Would anyone like to buddy up for some mutual encouragement?

Yes I know what you mean. Weekends are harder def. I'm working today trying to keep my mind off it.

I'm ok so far. I do 16:8 every day anyway, so I am feeling normal. It starts to get hard around 4pm for me. Actually, just typing now I've started to feel hungry.. 😂

I went back and found this episode which is an interview with Jason Fung and I think is a nice intro to many of the ideas (including why calorie-restriction is not advisable).

It’s been a train of thought recently of me focusing on my insulin-response rather than working solely on reaching 36-hr fasts.

Thank you @Peae I've just listened to half of that podcast while unpacking all my online supermarket delivery to try to help me not to eat any of it!

I'm still fasting at the moment. I think if I can get through the next hour, I should be able to make it to tomorrow morning!

Eddielizzard · 22/12/2024 19:05

Amazing! So well done.

I am struggling a bit. Trying not to cave. Will go and have a tea, maybe that'll be enough.

Sunflowers84 · 23/12/2024 08:46

Did you manage it @Eddielizzard?

Eddielizzard · 23/12/2024 08:48

Ah well I just wasn't getting any sleep so at 3.30 had a handful of nuts and then slept very well. So I guess I only managed 32 hours, but still very very happy with that! You?

Sunflowers84 · 23/12/2024 09:01

Well done!

Yes, I've not eaten yet (I usually do at least 16:8, so not unusual). I'm trying to decide what/when to eat to break my fast?

hideawayforever · 23/12/2024 09:20

I'm doing a 36 hour one now. finished eating at 8pm last night, hoping to last until tomorrow morning, although i do still have cups of tea with skimmed milk.

Eddielizzard · 23/12/2024 09:20

I was planning on frying an egg but I couldn't face it. Just had muesli instead.

How do you feel in yourself?

Sunflowers84 · 23/12/2024 10:41

Hope it goes well @hideawayforever

@Eddielizzard I'm feeling fine. No more hungry than normal! (Still not eaten but just having a coffee at the moment.) How are you feeling? Are you doing this for health benefits, weight loss or both?

Eddielizzard · 23/12/2024 10:53

Good luck @hideawayforever!

I feel no more hungry than normal, but I did have that muesli.

Mostly health benefits, but weight loss a definite bonus. I have this brain fog that I would really like to shift, and I def felt better on that front yesterday.

How about you?

Sunflowers84 · 23/12/2024 13:11

Again, both reasons. I am quite short and a 'heathy' weight but definitely feel/look better a few pounds lighter (every extra pound is on my stomach). I've been eating quite low calories (along with 16:8 or 18:6) for months and not lost a pound. I think it's worth trying something different. But I think I might also need to slightly increase my calories on non-fasting days to make sure I'm not under-eating.

I've also been reading/listening to some of the links @Peae has posted and I'm really interested in other health benefits of fasting.

Peae · 23/12/2024 17:23

Hello thread, hope it's going well @hideawayforever .

Happy Christmas, everyone!

I am possibly considering a fast day tomorrow (but not sure - could be tricky with so much food around). Am I mad to even be considering a fast day this week?!

Peae · 26/12/2024 17:21

I think tomorrow looks good, but we've got so many leftovers here and only tomorrow to eat them, so I think I'll do OMAD.

I don't think this sounds very healthy and it shouldn't be something that people are encouraging others to do.

I used to think like you until I found out about autophagy. I now think our modern lifestyles are really bad and having fasting periods are a really positive thing.

I feel a lot better now I intermittent fast every day, and am thinking of introducing a 36 hour fast every week.

I'm up for another fast but maybe on Sunday again

Peae · 26/12/2024 20:58

I’ve been doing a bit of reading, and plotting with my diary. Plan is to work on Fung’s 30-hour protocol; quit sugar from the 1st of Jan; and gently quit Diet Coke by the end of Jan. This should put me in good stead for moving to 36-hours once or twice a week after a February holiday.
In the meantime I’ve pencilled in various “dining commitments” and arranged fasts as much as possible until the end of the year.

@Peae Sounds like an interesting plan!

Sunflowers84 · 26/12/2024 22:25

I love your organisation and planning @Peae Do you have any links to what you have been reading?

I'm now reconsidering my fast day tomorrow as I'm not sure if I can make it work with family and also just practically with dates on food, etc!

I've not managed to do this today. A mixture of family plans and food with use by dates of today has meant it didn't seem like the best plan. I did my usual 16:8 (think it was nearly 18:6).

Peae · 27/12/2024 17:31

Thank you for bearing with me whilst I think out loud Smile
@Sunflowers84 I was reading the Intermittent Fasting Protocols from here and which is best, https://www.thefastingmethod.com/quick-guide-public/

It looks like I'm not the only one trying to muddle through with dining commitments, too much food in the house and managing waste etc. I enjoyed leftovers at midday and am now hoping to fast until tomorrow afternoon when we're out with the in-laws for a big family meal.

I've given up until January!

I'm in, I think.

Er, how much weight can I expect to lose?
