Anyone up for supporting each other with 36 hour fasts?

As a midlife / perimenopausal woman these worked brilliantly for me in the summer and I managed to lose my first stone. I'm completely convinced by the health benefits and would like to get back in to them, but can't break through the struggle at the 21hr-ish mark. OMAD is no problem, I just want to hit the 36-hour fast.

Would anyone like to buddy up for some mutual encouragement?

@Sunflowers84 I’m still going. Feeling ok, not really hungry but had to distract myself from boredom eating earlier! My house appreciates the boredom cleaning Xmas Grin

Sunflowers84 · 20/12/2024 05:37

Well done @Fabulouslyunfabulous

I made it through yesterday evening. I'll have done 36 hours around 7.00ish. I'm feeling good this morning and not sure what time I'll eat. I don't usually have my first meal of the day until sometime between 11am and 1pm, but will eat earlier today if I feel I need to.

Whyherewego · 20/12/2024 06:58

@sunflowers84 well done you must be delighted ! Amazing job
I fell hard last night as a friend came round with cakes chocs and a bottle of champers as she was celebrating something. So I partook which did not make for an amazing break fast meal. At least I didn't drink half the bottle only a couple of glasses !

Fabulouslyunfabulous · 20/12/2024 07:57

I broke my fast with a banana and will eat properly a bit later.

hideawayforever · 20/12/2024 10:24

hi,
I've been fasting for 36 hours once a week for thelast 2 months but I have to have cups of tea with skimmed milk. it definitely still works to lose weight, but I'm wondering if having tea with milk will stop the other benefits like lowering cholesterol? hope not.

Sunflowers84 · 20/12/2024 15:05

I ended up doing over 42 hours (I just wasn't hungry!). I've had some soup with cucumber/pepper/tomatoes and a satsuma for lunch.

I'm thinking of trying to do a 36 hour fast at least once a week (maybe twice?) in the new year, to try to shift around 7 pounds that have not been budging on 1200 daily calories. (I'm quite short and not much to lose.) Does anyone have any thoughts on this/any success stories to share?

Peae · 20/12/2024 18:41

Megan Ramos promotes 36ers as the ideal for midlife women, but does not advise calorie-counting at all. 1200-calories may have had an impact on your metabolism and be making the last 7lb a bit stubborn(?). Might be worth reading Intermittent Fasting for Women by Ramos.

I really struggled with the 36er earlier this week, but I loved how I felt afterwards - great night's sleep and full of energy and mental clarity. Does anyone fancy doing another 36hr fast starting Saturday evening?

It's so hard now as all my family have descended so I don't think I can do 36 but I could try a 24 or at least extended ?

Peae · 20/12/2024 21:48

Only if it works for you of course.

In full disclosure I want to avoid abject misery so I may try a small, high fat, low carb snack about hour 20 on the Sunday.

Actually, I'm going to go for it today and 'get it done'. It's that time of the month and I'm feeling really bloated and crummy after two meals out yesterday. I ate small meals, but it was still rich food I'm not used to. I'm actually really ready for a fast.

@Peae I also felt very uncomfortable last night after eating loads of stuff that I'd not normally eat with the family arrived. I'm going on a run today so I needed to eat this morning but will definitely skip the rest today

Fabulouslyunfabulous · 21/12/2024 09:38

I’m unlikely to get another one in before Christmas but after Christmas I want to go back to regular fasts.

Eddielizzard · 21/12/2024 09:41

I'm going to try after tonight's meal. I don't have to cook for anyone tomorrow, so I think I'll take the opportunity to give it a go. I have never managed more than 21 hours though, so a bit nervous.

Peae · 21/12/2024 10:21

I've felt nervous too, whenever I've tried after a break. So much of it is in my head though. I know that physically I'm not in any danger of starving to death. What I learned this week is that I don't want to white-knuckle it next time.

Well done @Peae I'll be cheering you on today!

Thanks for the info about Megan Ramos. Have you read the book? I think you might be right re:calories etc. I've been really sticking to 1200 calories and not losing these few pounds I'd like to lose. I'm at a healthy BMI/weight but I know I feel and look better around 7 pounds lighter. I'm keen to try a new approach and think this could be the way forward for me.

Tarnishedbutton · 21/12/2024 10:46

Following, probably won't be able to do this until the new year but hopefully get some tips.
I have been sort of fasting since May -- since September not been properly logging it but my mounjaro makes me only want to eat once a day anyway.
Got to be honest though when I was properly logging it I felt so alive!! People at first thought I was being silly with long fasts but I felt so healthy once my body got into it.

Sunflowers84 · 21/12/2024 10:48

@Eddielizzard I might(?) join you tomorrow? I last fasted on Thurs, so not sure? But I probably won't be able to do another fast for the whole of next week, so tomorrow could be good (and it also helps to know there's someone else fasting on the same day). Tomorrow also works well with family plans.

Eddielizzard · 21/12/2024 10:51

@Sunflowers84 great to have company!

Peae · 21/12/2024 17:41

I’ve cashed it in as a 22hr. I think that’s me for now. Am going to stick to 20:4s until Christmas now 🙂

Well done for doing 22 hours @Peae

Are you still fasting tomorrow @EasternEcho? I've only just finished eating (unusual for me to eat so late!) but going to aim for approx 36 hours from now.

EasternEcho · 21/12/2024 21:43

@Sunflowers84 Unfortunately I am on a week's course of antibiotics that require to be taken with food, so I'm out until that's over in a few days. I'll probably start after Christmas. I find all of you very motivating!

Sunflowers84 · 21/12/2024 22:07

Sorry, I tagged the wrong person. I meant to tag @Eddielizzard

RedRock41 · 21/12/2024 22:17

Nah you’re ok. I’d eat in a coma 😆

Eddielizzard · 21/12/2024 22:23

Yes @Sunflowers84 , started about 7.30. Don't know how long I'll last, but it'll help knowing you're doing it too!

Sunflowers84 · 22/12/2024 09:57

I'm checking in to try to keep myself accountable. I'm wondering if it was a bad idea to try fasting on a weekend day. I'm not feeling hungry, but psychologically it's feeling harder today. Strange that it's feeling hard already, as I don't usually eat until around lunchtime on a normal day.

How are you doing @Eddielizzard?
