Day 1 of this adventure. I’ve got a headache but will soon be going to bed.
My eating window today was 8am-4pm. I’ve got so much to shift & hope I can keep this up. Anyone else want to join?

Yes it definitely helps me. I know I’m lucky to be home at 4pm in the week so I can eat by 6. One DD at home and she’s 20 and often goes to the gym after work so I don’t have that ‘eat with the children’ responsibility any more. Did that for years and often ate more than I needed because I wanted to set a good example.
18 hr fast
lumch: dry fried egg, half an avocado on one slice of toasted sourdough.
dinner: just cooking a roast with pork fillet, roasted spuds and roasted carrots, broccoli/ cauliflower cheese. Will only have a few roast potatoes and lots of veggies.
Big walk today.

Thanks. Your food appeals to me too. Do you have a recipe for the paneer and lentil soup? It’s definitely soup season. I’ve always loved veg and fruit, dislike cream , butter and not big on pastry and don’t have much of a sweet tooth so I’m lucky that healthy food is not a chore for me.
I have never been much of a snacker- was brought up on 3 meals a day and we didn’t snack(70s) so I rarely eat between meals anyway. I do like salty things like crisps and nuts so I do t tend to buy them or eat them unless I’m at a party or it’s part of the meal because I could eat loads. Also alcohol at weekends but so far I’m doing ok at reducing the amount. Feel better for it too. Since I’ve been IFing I have only had the odd carrott or stick of celery after work(4pm ish) and I’ve been bringing my evening meal forward which makes it easier. Not eaten yet today. Fancy some eggs and avocado. I’m making a roast dinner later cos it’s flippin freezing.

No recipe as it's my own invention! Basically fry onions with courgettes and spices then add to a big pan with tinned tomatoes, red lentils and brown lentils, broccoli and stock and simmer for an hour, adding some air fried paneer and a tin of coconut milk near the end. Delicious

18 hour fast

L: jacket potato with cottage cheese and salad

Piece of toast with cream cheese
Pom bears

T: will be broccoli and cheddar soup

Didn’t fast yesterday, felt hungover and needed to eat. Closed the kitchen at 6pm and fasted 18 hours into today.

Making a giant lentil vegetable lasagne for Sunday tea - will eat with the kids at 5ish and fast from then. Quite like these earlier fasts.

Sounds delicious! I agree on the early fasts. I go to the office on Monday and Wednesday and am not back particularly early so will try to take dinner in for the train those days. Any ideas for easy to transport train dinners? I go through Waterloo in London so could always get something healthy there

It’s on my list. Anything spicy with coconut is great for me.

Can you get something bigger for lunch so you could have a smaller dinner on those evenings? I used to heat up some soup to have in a flask on the train when I was commuting, or those cous cous packets you can put in tupperware and just add hot water to? Or oatcakes with peanut butter and an apple etc.

Love a pom bear

greengreyblue · 29/09/2024 20:03

Don’t start me on Pom bears…..

greengreyblue · 29/09/2024 20:04

I’ve already had two glasses of white wine that I was not going to drink!! Taken myself upstairs to give myself some nice skin treatments with a camomile tea to stop myself pouring another!

Queencam · 29/09/2024 20:21

😂

I enjoyed a Paloma cocktail with dinner - the cans from Sainsbury’s are very good. The Moth range I think

Great ideas thank you. Particularly like the idea of cous cous

I've been doing this with baths lately! It's really nice as a way to treat myself that doesn't involve food, and I can't eat in the bath so I don't even think about it!

Sorry to lower the tone, but does anyone else struggle with constipation since intermittent fasting, or in the early days of doing it? I've probably been doing it for about 3 weeks now and I feel like I'm hardly pooing, and even then they're not good/satisfying ones! 😭

Cashew1 · 25/09/2024 19:35

@greengreyblue I know right, I really want a bowl of cereal now! Not quite managed to kick the evening cravings unfortunately. Also experiencing some constipation with the two meals a day, very unlike me as I have been an ibs-d sufferer. So reluctant to weigh in case it reflects badly!

Sharing re constipation and yes! So unusual for me too. All tips appreciated

greengreyblue · 30/09/2024 07:19

Yes I had a bit of ‘slow transit’ but it passed. Make sure you get enough fibre and water. Fibre is nature’s broom. An espresso in the morning helps me along.

GameOfJones · 30/09/2024 08:00

@Enviable yes I really struggled with constipation when I first started fasting. I agree with making sure you're getting enough fibre. I take psyllium husk supplements for extra fibre too.

It didn't last forever. Now I only struggle if I go from fasting and having lighter meals to overindulging and having a weekend with lots of food, I think it's the change in diet and food volume that confuses my gut!

Queencam · 30/09/2024 12:59

My bowels took a bit to get used to it but am nice and regular now. It is a big change! It’s v beneficial to rest your digestive system like this from what I’ve read and listened to.

It’s also meant to make you sleep better, but I’m not seeing that effect unfortunately. Sleep is a bit shit at the moment, wondering if it’s an early peri sign. But my cycles are v regular and I’m blasted with peri videos on Instagram so could be overthinking it.

Did an 18 hour fast and had some of the veggie bean lentil lasagne for lunch with my 18mo. Weighed in yesterday at 62.6kg - so the 62kg on the last one was probably dydration from having diarrhoea- but am pleased with 62.6kg as a more accurate measure. Overall weight is decreasing - it’s just slow slow.

Cashew1 · 30/09/2024 18:03

19 hour fast 💪

Constipation sorted today thankfully

Lunch: frittata and salad
Tea: will be breakfast foods! Managed to get back from work early for dinner

Cashew1 · 30/09/2024 18:51

Ok I think having a snacky tea is a bad idea as I ate way more than intended. Back to proper food tomorrow

greengreyblue · 30/09/2024 19:07

18 hr fast
lunch: feta salad with a dollop of hummus and some pumpkin seeds, an apple
dinner: lean pork chilli with brown rice, dollop of Greek yoghurt, Satsuma.
Have really pulled my back and I do t know how. Can’t stand up straight. So no dog walk for me tonight. About to have a hot bath 🤞🏻

greengreyblue · 30/09/2024 19:26

@Cashew1 I will be making that soup soon. Also love the idea of le til lasagne @Queencam Used to make lentil bolognaise when DD who is a vegetarian lived at home.

Oh no, hope it heals up asap.
I pulled my shoulder blade in the shower last week - it was bloody agony! Took a good 5-6 days to resolve and seems okay now. But so painful at the time!

GameOfJones · 30/09/2024 21:11

@greengreyblue I have only just recovered from pulling my back. A hot bath is definitely a good idea and I found alternating hot and cold (deep heat ointment alternated with an ice pack) helped.

Get plenty of rest but don't stop moving, a little bit of walking is better than going completely immobile if you can help it.

I'm actually doing daily yoga now as I'm wanting to try to protect my back as much as possible as it was so bloody painful so I really feel for you. Hopefully it heals up quickly for you.

17 hour fast for me today.

Lunch of cream cheese on rye bread, an apple, some pecans and a yoghurt.

Dinner was lasagne bulked out with lots of veg.

Get well soon. Sorry about the back.

Broke fast with a bagel here as didn't want to go to bed hungry as feel like I have a cold coming in. So will be a shorter fast this time but that's ok, all about the flex as long as I keep going.

greengreyblue · 30/09/2024 21:28

Yes I’m all about moving but can’t stand up straight so it’s dofficult. Hot water bottle is good. Will try ice pack too. Thanks.

Queencam · 01/10/2024 16:24

How's your back today @greengreyblue ?

I did a 19 hour fast. Thought about going to 24 hours but cracked during my lunch break. Was starting to think about food too much during meetings 😅

Had more bloody leftover lentil bean lasagne, then some grapes. Dinner tonight is prawn & veggie ramen with rice. I use the Itsu cartons from the supermarket - really rate the chicken one. And a nice pack of stir fry veg. Really good for a quick healthy dinner.
