Starting a new thread as I accidentally filled up the old one.

Here’s a link to the old one: www.mumsnet.com/talk/fasting_diet/4570776-blood-sugar-diet-fast-800-diet-thread-24

Hope everyone finds this and look forward to welcoming newcomers to the thread too!

Those pesky gains are infuriating @Anewagain and sometimes just inexplicable hope the water flushes it out.
@TooExtraImmatureCheddar my unexpected physical change has been scrawny legs! Over the past few years I have gained weight around the middle and while I have lost a lot there, the old legs have dwindled to twigs so I look like a toffee apple with two sticks. I have a 'Dad' visit this weekend too. He is a lonely widower and looks forward to having a party when people come to stay. It will be very difficult to stay off the booze as he takes abstention as a personal insult.
Very interesting your Tesco shop as cheap as Lidl @MistySkiesAreGone. Sometimes think the discounters look cheaper than they actually are. There are somethings I LOVE from Lidl (Low GI bread; greek yoghurt; nuts) I do wonder whether everything is really cheaper. And sometimes the quality is dodgy.
Good to see you back @PhoenixMama and sorry to hear life is getting in the way. You were a big inspiration to me starting this WOE!
I am in week 13 now and sticking to the 800 and low carbs - I am feeling good on it and want to get to a maintenance weight asap because while I am a whizz at losing it I am rubbish at keeping it off. THIS TIME IT WILL BE DIFFERENT.
Good luck today everyone!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 29/03/2023 13:41

@Tunneltiger It WILL be different this time! We need a maintenance thread. I will be a while reaching it, though! And my dad takes abstinence as a personal insult too.

Happy dance this morning - my waist measurement has dropped suddenly, and I fit into my red cords, hurray! 11.1.6 today.

Anewagain · 29/03/2023 13:50

I need it to be different this time too @Tunneltiger Are you me @TooExtraImmatureCheddar? I too am really rather good at losing weight but really very bad at keeping it off.
Well done on the waist measurement @Tunneltiger. I’ve taken measurements now (better late than never) so will be interested to see how they change over time.

Thanks for the kind words @Tunneltiger It felt so much easier last time I was doing this. Maybe that's because I wasn't really working but the annoying thing is I KNOW it works because I lost that bloody 50lbs but now I just have 20 to go I'm struggling.

Another really hard day here (emotionally more than anything else!) It just kills my eating - I literally feel like crying and feel like eating every sugary carb I could get my hands on - WHY?? I know I'll just be more mad at myself but I still want it, it's bonkers!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 29/03/2023 17:32

@PhoenixMama, that sounds really tough. Flowers Hope things get better for you this week.

VenusInfers · 29/03/2023 21:47

Also sending love your way, @PhoenixMama . You KNOW you can do this!!

Okay day here - good food but an unfortunate second glass of wine. Have discovered, however, why my weight has been yo-yoing up and down all week- I forgot to zero my scales when I moved them. 🫣
What. An. Idiot. At least the true figure isn’t one of the higher ones…. 😁

Anewagain · 30/03/2023 07:40

Sorry things are so tough @PhoenixMama. If you’ve lost and are pretty much maintaining a loss of 50lbs then you’re doing super well in my book and have been so strong to get where you are - even if you still have more to go which must be frustrating.

OP posts:
Tunneltiger · 30/03/2023 10:33

Morning!
Boo to that glass of wine @VenusInfers that is my great downfall!
STS here and hovering frustratingly above a new stone zone.

Had my first comment/compliment about weight loss from my bff's husband and I feel a bit meh about it. I've known this guy for years and the only other time he commented on my appearance was after an earlier weight loss. I kind of felt patronised. I've been overweight all my life: child, teenager, adult, interspersed with brief periods of being a 'normal' weight before shooting up again (weight profile looks like the alps). I suspect he thinks that people are fat because they are greedy/lazy or venal in some other unspecified way, so what does he think of me for the other 90% of the time? Thing is, I like chubby me. She's done some amazing things - three kids, successful business, happy marriage. I haven't ever been skinny me for long enough to know how she shapes up.
I am resigned to waging the battle with my weight forever. I know that it isn't character failure that makes me fat but some combo of inherited genes and malfunctioning hormones. Now I do it for health and to live longer and I guess I resent people who haven't faced the same struggle welcoming me to the 'normal' world.

Sorry for the rant! Good luck today everyone!

MistySkiesAreGone · 30/03/2023 11:07

@Tunneltiger It does feel a bit ick. I hated the extra attention I got for losing weight. I knew I felt better in me and didn't really need that- I would rather no one noticed unless maybe it's a special event where I had made an effort and then it's better to keep it general- you look well etc. My weight WILL fluctuate sometimes half a stone a week and it's not a topic of public conversation.

A lot of people control their weight by consuming empty calories (alcohol) and eating less, so they do struggle but in a different way.

Like you I am really focusing on the long term, especially fitness with strength training, so body changes are to do with that too where I feel strong.

MistySkiesAreGone · 30/03/2023 11:20

9st 13.6 this morning so pleased to still be under 10 stone. I didn't go to rebounder yesterday as I had walked 2 x 40 minutes. Also had 4 biscuits, 2 extra bagels and an extra chicken and chips this week. Bad sleep, poor planning and work anxiety.

Tonight I've got circuits and spin. On and up everyone!

VenusInfers · 30/03/2023 13:26

Congratulations @MistySkiesAreGone ! Great to get down into the ‘9s’! Hope that will be me in a couple of weeks! Heck, why not think positive? That WILL be me in a couple of weeks! As long as I hide the bloody corkscrew properly this time!

I totally get your frustration with the unsolicited comments @Tunneltiger , it’s not something we’re doing for approval- we’re doing it for ourselves.

My mum was the absolute worst for this for many years. Until recently I never fluctuated more than 3 or 4 pounds either side of 9 1/2 stone but, ooh didn’t she just have to comment when I was at one end or another of that incredibly small range? Argh! She did at least stop when I finally asked her to, but I had decades of that nonsense. 🙄

MistySkiesAreGone · 30/03/2023 17:56

NSV just been to gym and my metabolic age is 3 years under my actual age, and my body fat % has gone from 37% to 31.5% since 2019. Woop.

PhoenixMama · 30/03/2023 19:25

@Tunneltiger I loved your rant - I totally get that & I love your reasons for doing it. I hate CFs like that.

@MistySkiesAreGone That's brilliant and consistent which is the hardest bloody thing!

I've fallen into a chocolate bar today but I was down 5lbs this morning which is good (especially given that I've had my period this week) That said I'm out for food/drinks tonight/tomorrow and Sunday. I tried a new dress on yesterday and my bloating is so bad I legitimately looked pregnant. Oops!

But... I've taken this week as baby steps, grocery orders set up for the next 4 weeks, gone through the cook books, and made sure I've gotten outside for at least a 40 minute walk every day, rain or shine. Have even reopened my gym app so while I'm not back at it 100% I'm so much better than I was 2 - 3 weeks ago and I'm going to hold onto that. I'm hoping that if I can rest a bit this weekend I'll be in an even better headspace next week. I'll take the baby steps where I can.

Anewagain · 31/03/2023 09:38

Well done @PhoenixMama and hope this weekend is restful.
Thats a brilliant result @MistySkiesAreGone. I think I’m probably too scared to check my metabolic age but what an amazing encouragement to knock years off it.
I can feel my mum’s concern when my weight increases. I know it’s because she has always struggled but it’s very uncomfortable for me@VenusInfers so I get that. My mum has been better at not commenting too now (but I can still feel her concern).
I made it home from the school run for a day of WFH and have massive sugar cravings - I didn’t get much sleep, it’s wet and miserable, my weight is still stuck at no loss for what feels like weeks and I’m stressed/have a lot on at work. I went to the supermarket for milk and really wanted all the chocolate but told myself I’d have to go home, sit it out for an hour and go back to the shops if I still want it later. Hopefully that’s enough to not slip.

MistySkiesAreGone · 31/03/2023 10:19

@PhoenixMama all those steps are brilliant, well done. This thread has reinforced for me that planning is key, will power is good but planning really helps.

Stayed on plan yest, did spin and weights, 9st 13.2 today so 0.4 loss. Pleased with that. Defo did not eat enough fibre so will up that today, sat and sun. Bit keto flu today.

Debating if I just eat more on mon-thurs as finding it hard - better to do that than cave and have biscuits. I may take extra to work just in case. Sugar knocks me out of ketosis.

My metabolic age used to be 15 years above my age, so it is doable! Also my body fat used to be 44%.

Having talked a lot about the barriers/challenges/obstacles, what is everyone's motivator? Mine is that I have a lung condition and being overweight makes me sleepy, just 1 stone less improves energy, also my NHS consultant said I will feel it more (i.e. breathless) if I do not exercise when older, as the condition is quite serious unfortunately. So I think of it as laying foundations. The more short term motivator was a holiday last year, I got to goal weight plus 3 pounds and although there is no holiday this year, I want to be in a better place for summer. The key will be carrying it through winter and not regaining, we'll see.

MistySkiesAreGone · 31/03/2023 10:46

Other NSVs are my legs are looking more toned. My weight loss is different this time, it has gone from my face and chest, but my hips are more stubborn.

I think this may be as I am building muscle with exercise. Hard to know what to do exercise wise. I may swim more as it is very good for the hips.

MistySkiesAreGone · 31/03/2023 10:51

I'm a massive chocolate addict and I really recommend cacao powder. I have the naturya one. It can be added to porridge, used to make hot chocolate, or my favourite is mixed with some plain natural yoghurt and berries. It is basically cocoa powder but minus the sugar, so it is slightly more bitter, but it is not for the taste, it is for the caffeine / dopamine hit from the cacao / chocolate flavour and it is like chocolate high in magnesium which is calming. Not for everyone but is is a way I can have chocolate in my house and not actually buy chocolate iyswim.

sheepdreams · 01/04/2023 05:55

Hi can I join you? I have been bouncing around trying to lose weight for a while. I have 2 stone to lose and had a recent health scare so really need to make some changes.

I’ve decided to try fast 800, after being stuck in a state of inertia reviewing all diets and doing zilch!

Ive just joined a gym and hoping to combine different types of exercise with the diet. I think if I can just lose the first half stone fairly quickly it will help me with motivation. I’m addicted to sugar so need to address this. Also eat to manage stress, happiness, sadness, any reason really! Reading your posts has been motivating so I’d love to join the chat and any advice to help would be fab.

VenusInfers · 01/04/2023 08:00

Welcome @sheepdreams ! Fast 800 is a great way to kick start weight loss but can take a bit of getting used to. Have you looked at some of the recipes etc yet? When are you planning on starting?

All that prep sounds great @PhoenixMama , getting your head (and your kitchen cupboards) in the right place!

Your progress has been amazing @MistySkiesAreGone and what a great motivation you have. Mine is as simple as wanting to wear my nice clothes. I have a capsule wardrobe atm and am refusing to buy any more because I know i have plenty of options once I have returned to my usual weight. 😁

MistySkiesAreGone · 01/04/2023 08:03

Welcome @sheepdreams , this is a lovely supportive thread. Not sure I have any advice but it works and the general trend is downward. You do see results very quickly especially the first half stone. Definitely read one of the Fast 800 books, I have the Fast800 one which has a set of recipes in the back. It has lots of advice. In the beginning try and stick pretty strictly to it as this will get you into ketosis quickly. I'd probably take the first week as a planning week of sorting meal planning rather than doing the plan. About day 4 or 5 is a challenge as the body goes into a bit of ketosis flu, where it is switching from burning carb to burning fat (expect a headache). I find eating lots of green veg helps.

If you can try and reduce or cut sugar out in the prep week (even if you replace it with carbs!) I personally think this will help the withdrawal from it.

MistySkiesAreGone · 01/04/2023 08:09

9st 12.6 today, happy with that. Off to Body Conditioning in a min. Am revising my fitness plan as I did a LOT last week. Gonna alternate so more rest days.

Mon - rest, walk to work
Tues - rest, walk to work
Wed - pm power pump and trampoline
Thu - rest
Fri - morning swim
Sat - rest
Sun - am spin and lbt

My gym (Better You) has an app with home workouts so I am going to do some yoga on Mon and Tues nights before bed to destress. This is the plan for now anyway, I'll switch it up mid May as my goals change.

Got to rush for my class now. Today is smoothie, beetroot salad and tuna salad (meals I didn't make during the week). Picking up my Tesco shop after the class.

MistySkiesAreGone · 01/04/2023 08:11

9 st 12.4 I mean! Can't miss those 200 g 🤣 so 1.2lb loss from yesterday. Will do a total loss tot up tomorrow.

MistySkiesAreGone · 01/04/2023 09:30

So I was 10st 3 on 17 March. 9st 12.4 today. 4.6lbs loss in 16 days.

So 280-300g loss a day. I am pleased with that average.

That would be just under 9lbs a month. That is with slip up days, but on really strict days I've dropped 1-2lbs off.

MistySkiesAreGone · 01/04/2023 09:33

This week I have lost 1.8lb.

I am on the Fast800 facebook group and someone posted a picture of 1lb of fat. You can buy a replica on Amazon - I'd consider it but they are quite expensive! I thought it was very motivating though. Here is a link to Amazon:

Anewagain · 01/04/2023 13:32

Well done @MistySkiesAreGone . those photos of 1lb are shocking.

Welcome @sheepdreams - hope all goes well as you get started.

Nothing much to report here - a busy weekend as we prepare to go away and trying to decide how strict to be while on holiday.
