@MollyButton I’m only on day 5 so can’t really advise but my plan is to continue eating 800 calories Monday to Thursday and add in some extras at the weekends to start with and see what happens.

@MAV34 I’m also feeling a bit rough and have had a headache all day. I. Also so, so tired. Hopefully we will both be fill of the joys of spring next week.

MollyButton · 29/01/2022 11:29

At the start I did drink quite a lot of Bovril which might have helped with the salt. I have also been put on Metformin which suppresses appetite.

MAV34 · 29/01/2022 13:40

@Threeboysandadog yesterday was awful for me, very fatigued and headachy. I confess I did break the diet but not a big way and I'm back to it today. Hoping to feel the joys of spring also!

@MollyButton that's a good tip thanks. I have been using bouillon stock as a light soup.

Threeboysandadog · 31/01/2022 20:40

I lost 4lbs this week so I’m fairly pleased with that.

@MAV34 I hope you are feeling a bit better today. I’m feeling fine but still tired. I can’t wait for my burst of energy!

I made the Parmesan courgettes and the Aubergine Parmigiana with Lentils from the Fast800 KETO book which were tasty.

@Threeboysandadog yes feeling better thank you. Congrats on the 4lbs and delicious looking meals. How often did everyone weigh themselves at the beginning? I noticed that my scales have stalled a bit, is that usual at this early stage? I am on day 8 or 9.

DoraDont · 01/02/2022 14:04

Hi, I'm on day 9, which is probably the longest I've stuck to any 'diet', ever. Not finding it particularly difficult so far, 4kg/8lbs ish down. Just made a huge batch of squash and pancetta soup to freeze.

My starting point was heaviest I've ever been, 101kg. I've slowly gained around 40kg over the course of twenty years which, given I'm short, is pretty outrageous.

Always been fairly active but depression, a geriatric pregnancy, repeated mcs, and now a pandemic have really taken their toll in my forties, and I somehow find myself verging on menopause and almost as wide as I am tall.

Haven't drunk since 2nd Jan, which has helped me stay off the bad carbs. Eight weeks will coincide with my birthday, so am going to try and keep it up until then and then switch to 5:2. My main aim is to not get Type 2, and also to lose enough bulk that running becomes pleasurable rather than painful.

@MAV34 I'm weighing in every morning, post poo of course.

MAV34 · 01/02/2022 14:14

@DoraDont well done on day 9, my geriatric pregnancies have taken a toll on my body and waistline also. Hoping to get back to pre-pregnancy weight. How are you going with exercise? Other than brisk walking I’m taking it slowly and trying to focus on consistency with the diet. I’ve bought the ketone pee sticks and according to those I’m im ketosis, so perhaps i just need to be more patient. So far a 2.5 kg loss out of a total 10kgs I want to lose. 7.5kgs to go

Threeboysandadog · 01/02/2022 14:29

@MAV34 I’m supposedly only weighing once a week but do sneak an extra look now and then. I definitely find that with this way of eating (this is not my first attempt) Grin the scales go up and down a bit, stick for days and then drop several pounds overnight. I think the thing is to just keep plowing on and the trend will be downwards.

@DoraDont I’m now post menopausal, my geriatric baby is 15 (also after several mcs) I’m a slave to fluoxetine and fast approaching my 60’s. I so wish I had sorted myself out in my 40’s. Well done on the 8lbs. Onwards and downwards.

I was going to try the Beef Stroganoff from the book today but forgot to take the steak out of the freezer so that’s tomorrow’s job now! Probably the parmigiana tonight again.

MAV34 · 02/02/2022 08:46

@Threeboysandadog thanks this makes sense. Some progress to report this morning, the weight has shifted in the right direction, I will keep going!

Threeboysandadog · 02/02/2022 10:03

@MAV34 it’s certainly much more motivating when it’s moving downwards.

Draigwen · 03/02/2022 11:43

Hope you don't mind me joining you. I started Fast800 today along with 16:8. I took a similar approach 3/4 years ago to lose nearly 8 stone so I know it works.
I've put on about 20lbs so want to shift it. I've spent the last 12 weeks (and £600) with a nutritionist and haven't lost anything (in fact I've gained 2 kg). I am eating healthier and weight training though so I'm hoping the combination will set me up for a fast and healthy weight loss experience.
I know that the first week can be tough so I thought I'd look for a group of people who understand! I'm 43 btw and my babies are now tweens.

Threeboysandadog · 03/02/2022 17:14

Welcome @Draigwen, nearly 8 stone was an amazing achievement and you’ve obviously kept most of it off. I’ve lost up to a couple of stone on a few occasions doing this and various other diets but was back up to almost my heaviest. I hope to lose 6 stone. This is my week 2, day 4 and, so far, it’s going quite well. I’m planning to do this for 12 weeks and then 5/2.

MAV34 · 03/02/2022 18:02

@Draigwen hello! 8 stone is an amazing achievement. 20lbs is similar to my goal for weight loss (sorry i grew up with metric!). I wanted to lose 10kgs and have now lost 3.5kgs of that. I am into my second week. Feeling a bit fatigued but am getting over a bout of covid and have 2 young kids. I’ve this forum really encouraging and good to hear others experiences.

MAV34 · 03/02/2022 18:07

Ps. i didn’t fork out on a nutritionist but did try noom, and also put on weight! Previously had some success with dukan after 1 st baby. I am enjoying the food much more on fast800 and seems more manageable and the quick weight loss is very motivating

MAV34 · 03/02/2022 18:11

it’s my birthday this weekend and am in a quandary about how to manage that? How have others dealt with celebrations? My plan is to stay keto but go over my calorie allowance. Did anyone have low calorie alcohol? I think stay away from wine but just got for a couple of vodka and slim tonics?

MollyButton · 04/02/2022 07:38

I started before Christmas.
The things I've done are: get my head around celebrations not having to be about food and drink. So treating myself in other ways eg buying myself flowers.
Choosing expensive but healthy treat food eg Venison for Christmas dinner.
And carefully rationing a little bit of treat food.

I do have the huge advantage that I'm not drinking alcohol for other health reasons.

I did go to my Work Christmas meal quite early on. I drank Soda Water. Ate the meal but only tasted the Roast Potatoes and Parsnips. I also ate slower.

MAV34 · 11/02/2022 21:04

@MollyButton thanks for your reply, for some reason mumsnet notification went into my junk folder. It was so tricky avoiding things i’m not supposed to have and i ended up eating those things in moderation. It was really hard to get back on track and into ketosis again. But did it and am now back on track again.

PleasantBirthday · 14/02/2022 14:02

Hi Everyone, hope it's OK to join in. I've read large chunks of the thread and congratulations to all of you - amazing successes everywhere! I'm on day 1 today. I'm doing the 16:8, 800 cals, less than 50g of carbs which is a big change for me.

In the past, I've tried lots of different things with varying levels of success - weightwatchers (sometimes worked, sometimes didn't, I suspect my mindset was the difference), up day down day, noom (didn't get on with the tone, too upbeat for me), slim fast, all kinds of things. So I can do it, I have done it but I do need the extra support to keep my eyes on the prize.

I feel that it has to be done now, I'm seriously overweight and will have to go back to the office from time to time for hybrid working. I feel very resistant to it, mainly because I'm embarrassed and my clothes don't fit. So changes need to be made.

Today I've combined all of the above with late lamented shangri la diet to keep my fast going.

EverybodysALebowski · 20/02/2022 13:53

Argh. Had several horrible weeks at work which led to Deliveroo and pizza and wine and crisps and all the things that are my downfall. But trying to get back to eating healthier now that things have slowed down a bit.

Hope things are ok with everyone else.

MollyButton · 20/02/2022 23:15

Since not being on the strict 800 I've found it tough to be as good. Still lost a bit but had days where I ate all the wrong things. At least one where I felt really rough as my blood sugar was all out of balance. And I have some tests coming up which I'd really like good news from. So back to trying to be good (and considering trying a free blood sugar monitor trial advertised via my GP's website).

WhatWillSantaBring · 03/03/2022 12:45

This thread doesn't seem to be very active these days (I was a member about 2 years ago). Is there anyone still around? I could do with some friendly chats to motivate me over the next 5 weeks (and then for another 5 weeks after that...)

Needaholidayplease · 09/03/2022 16:54

On day 3 of fast800! Starving!

xraydelta · 11/03/2022 16:29

Does anyone know why the new Michael Mosley programme is not available on channel 4 catch up? I didn't watch it when it was on in the week and I am now frustrated 😁

AmberRoseGold · 15/03/2022 15:08

Just restarted. Lost 7kg 5 years ago. Now need to lose 12kg- lockdown with home ed, WFH and lots of baking activities was not kind to me. Second attempt as first was scuppered by Covid. I have had six weeks off spinning and still not able to return but I am hoping sensible eating and gentle yoga will help my recovery.

xraydelta · 16/03/2022 07:04

@AmberRoseGold me too on the post lockdown(s) weight and so I am on it again!

But please do take it easy and don't go back to high intensity training until you are absolutely 100% (for a while). I say this as a carer of someone who other Long Covid. Don't rush back.

I don't have the time because of caring responsibilities to get to the gym at any of the class times, so I am just following the Fast 800, trying (successfully) to up my steps and I have cut out all alcohol completely.

It seems slower than before when I've done Fast 800, but I've had no side effects and I am committed to it for the long haul, so if it takes a bit longer without high intensity classes, that's just how it is.
