I'm always keen for virtuous NFD ideas @ginsparkles (as opposed to pizza and red wine weekends which I'm more than capable of doing on my own!)

ginsparkles · 18/01/2021 19:44

@harriethoyle can't guarantee they will always be virtuous!! They will often be veggie as on my NFD I try to make sure we eat together as a family. DD (8) has recently become a veggie so we are trying to encourage her as much as we can.

Kitchen closing on approx 430 (had some dried mango and didn't accurately weigh it!)

KylieKoKo · 18/01/2021 19:55

I've eaten my evening meal and I'm on about 475 calories so will have a boiled egg later to stave off hunger keeping me awake.

I have smoked salmon and scrambled eggs for breakfast tomorrow which I can't wait for.

Lilice · 19/01/2021 00:39

I've completely my first diet day, feels great! It wasn't easy but im glad I've now got the ball rolling.

What is b2b?

ginsparkles · 19/01/2021 07:55

@Lilice b2b means back to back. Two fasts together. I fasted yesterday and am again today so I'm doing b2b.

harriethoyle · 19/01/2021 08:43

@ginsparkles b2b twinsies! We got this...

ginsparkles · 19/01/2021 08:47

We sure do! Day all planned, I have a little pot of orzo for lunch and a fish curry for dinner. Should come in at just over 500.

Good luck @harriethoyle Smile

moonlight1705 · 19/01/2021 08:58

I'm joining you on a fast day today @ginsparkles and @harriethoyle

I weighed myself last Friday and had put on a little so I am guessing my massive loss after Christmas was perhaps not a true one. I am still 2kg under Christmas weight though. I also weighed on Monday to see and I weighed the same as on Friday so have not put anything on over the weekend. I will then weigh again this Friday to see how the two FD's have done.

ListeningQuietly · 19/01/2021 09:25

Lilice
If you look at the weekly pattern I posted the other day
B2B means having the two fast days next to each other rather than spread out
(not something I've ever managed !!)

For those actively trying to lose weight its a really good way to reset hunger and habits.

For folks like me who have little to lose / are maintaining its less useful.

My FD went a bit wrong yesterday as DD made her amazing Mac'n'cheese so I weakened - but I only had a little bit.
Shall be disciplined all day today Smile

Moonlight
Its the trend rather than any one day that matters.
I do not own scales so I know I've put on weight in this lockdown (by my waistband) but not how much.

OP posts:
moonlight1705 · 19/01/2021 10:10

@ListeningQuietly yes. Unfortunately the trend is now static, I've stayed the same weight for a year sadly so need to work out where it is going wrong. I'm gathering the data to see if it is my weekends buggering up or whether I'm putting on at other times.

I actually think I need a review of my thyroid medication but no one is doing that right now.

KylieKoKo · 19/01/2021 10:17

Well done @Lilice.

I found that after my 2nd week fast days mostly got easier. I still struggle when I fast a couple of days before my period but aside from those I don't find them too bad now.

KnobJockey · 19/01/2021 13:12

Hi guys! Hoping to join you as I need to lose weight, but I've been in that stage since the new year where I've done a bit of this diet, bit of that. I have managed 2 fast days a week for the past 2 weeks, and did one yesterday too. Need to reign in the other days now!

I went to nurses in July and had a weight check there. My last time of doing it was 2015, when I weighed 65kg. Coincidentally (!) this was also when I got with my partner, and I am now 84kg! I have had a baby during that time, who is now 16 months old. I Was doing okay during lock down, then cold hit, so I'm still at 84kg, but it's time to start addressing it.

So here I am! Claire, 35, from East Yorkshire, currently a sugar addict and feel STARVING without carbs!

ListeningQuietly · 19/01/2021 16:31

Hi there Knobjockey
Protein is your friend.
Cut down on sugar and up the protein and you'll stay fuller for longer.

Moonlight
What is your TDEE at happy weight and what is it at current weight
my "margin of error" is only 100 calories a day
which is VERY easy to miss

OP posts:
ginsparkles · 19/01/2021 19:45

Hey there all, struggled through the FD today. Stinking headache all day. I suspect it's that time of the month. But kitchen closing at 636.

Looking forward to a nice day of food tomorrow! All planned out and within TDEE. Plan is
Brekkie - Granola with almond milk
Lunch - tomato and goats cheese pasta salad
Dinner - steak and chips takeaway from the local pub.

moonlight1705 · 19/01/2021 20:30

Decent FD of 633 today with a lovely soy salmon for dinner tonight.

I've checked my TDEE and currently it is 2594 and my happy weight TDEE is 1926 so perhaps I'll aim for that on other days besides FDs.

harriethoyle · 19/01/2021 21:46

Kitchen closing on 712 for me - means I am bit over target of 650 but am hoping that will still count tomorrow on the scales! Got a beeyootiful dress from The Pretty Dress Company sale (highly recommended btw, beautiful quality, classic cuts and a great sale) - they say their sizes come up slightly small and the 12 fits like a glove so that's a real NSV.

Also had a real (and literally fast day 101 basic!) revelation today - had a hardboiled egg mashed with a teaspoon of mayo on toast for lunch (c.200 cals) and I felt SO full all afternoon. Wasn't hungry for tea when my DH insisted on cooking it because he was so starving! So I must remember to priortise protein more on FDs... Which I know academically but need to act on!

Fillybuster · 20/01/2021 00:01

Closing out a semi-successful b2b. I got mugged by a bag of liquorice all sorts yesterday (yes, I know, I shouldn’t have bought them, I’m an idiot) but I did manage shut the bag after 5, so I’ll kind of count that as a win despite having sugar on a FD! Especially since I managed to avoid the siren call of the open bag today Grin I’m not usually much of a sugar fiend, but liquorice really is my downfall.
Sadly, I suspect that despite two days of c800cals the scales won’t be down at all in the morning. I’ve got about 5lbs to lose to get to my stretch target weight, but they are the hardest to budge. I managed it in April/May, but mainly because I was working 20 hour days, and exercising like crazy in between to make up for sitting still for hours at a time, so barely had time to eat anything at all, even when DH and the dcs brought it up to me.

The last few weeks I’ve been bouncing between 9.6-9.8....getting to 9.3 is going to take a lot more commitment (& a lot less liquorice!). I’m getting back in the swing of things: I know from experience now that it will take me 2 or 3 weeks to start hitting my FD rhythm again, just need to stick at it.
Well done to the other b2bs - sounds like you had a very successful few days, and welcome to all the newcomers. To echo @ListeningQuietlys comments, this is one of the friendliest, kindest, most supportive corners of MN, so come on in!

harriethoyle · 20/01/2021 08:18

You had a snaccident @Fillybuster Grin

ginsparkles · 20/01/2021 08:33

Well done @harriethoyle and @Fillybuster ! I hope the scales are kind to us all this morning!!

I agree re the protein! Seeing it written here the other day reminded me that's what I should reach for to snack on. So I'm going to hard boil some eggs at the weekend ready for Monday and Tuesday.

Homeschooling again today, have to not snack!! Shall try to reach for a drink instead of a biscuit.

KylieKoKo · 20/01/2021 09:23

I'm fasting today, who else?

ListeningQuietly · 20/01/2021 11:10

Kylie
Me !
Because the Mac'n'cheese instead of an omelette has just SAT on my belly !
I really need to be stricter with myself
(normally I exercise a LOT but this weather and the gyms being shut is a drag)

Moonlight
Just mentally thinking about what your intake will be at happy weight will help moderate the non fast days

and Harriet
Hard boiled eggs are a WONDERFUL food - keep a couple in the fridge. Sliced onto ham or smoked salmon with a grind of pepper and they are a lunch in themselves
and being so high in protein you feel satiated for AGES

missfliss · 20/01/2021 11:24

Hi - joining today's fasting folks.

Meal planned for this evening:

Prawns and salmon with lemon juice
Steamfresh veg with some butter
A little mayonnaise
Greek yoghurt
10g oats

KylieKoKo · 20/01/2021 14:55

How is it going fasters.

I did a lunchtime strength and conditioning class and very quick dash on my bike to the shop so I have been fairly active.

I have only just started to be hungry so I am having miso soup.

My evening meal is me testing out a sad and meagre variation of jambalaya with just prawns rather than usual chicken and spicy sausage and subbing the normal rice for konjac rice.

KylieKoKo · 20/01/2021 14:56

That underline was meant to be crossed out. Although I feel that the underline might be more appropriate in this case.

ListeningQuietly · 20/01/2021 18:45

My Alchorexic tendency is kicking in again tonight.
I watched Biden's inauguration and cried far more than I expected so am now celebrating with a Martini.
Will just have to jump around more Grin
