Work has been so manic I’ve completely failed to post on the thread this week, but have been deeply impressed by everyone’s FDs, especially the B2Bs. I don’t mind fasting at home usually, but am finding it unbelievably hard with 3 dcs and DH in the house, all eating 3 proper meals a day plus two snack breaks at 10.30 and 4pm! Mealtimes are the only time we really get to hang out together, and although they are perfectly used to me not eating when they do, it’s hard not to pick at a little bit of something, or take a small bowl of soup, or whatever, especially since most of the time I’ve cooked/baked it fresh and I know it’s going to be good!
So much easier when it’s just me, and if I feel peckish at 3pm I can fob myself off with a carrot or some miso soup Grin
Anyway, one decent-ish FD (around 600) and one less good (800ish) this week. I need to start proper MFPing again, I think, and re-locate my mojo. It’s only 3-4lbs to shift, but I know that they will annoy me until they budge....
Hope everyone has a good weekend. We’ve got our fingers crossed for snow (London) but suspect that’s more hope than expectation!

Hi everyone, I was supposed to start dieting after the half term break but the news of homeschooling plus catching covid made me delay my plans. Now that ive recovered im ready to start, from Monday. I went shopping this morning and bough the food for my diet days: loads of courgettes, and 100 calories treats. I need to start exercising again. I have a cross trainer that I was planning on using during my baby's naps, but now i find myself homeschooling my two kids during my baby's naps 😖😭

Hello everyone, long term lurker putting a tentative foot in here. I’ve quite a lot of weight to lose and not sure if to go for 5:2 or fast800. May I ask if for your non fasting days go by your TDEE or BMR allowance? And do you find you need to do the fasting days consecutively for it to work?

ListeningQuietly · 16/01/2021 20:43

Hi there Filly
Fasting and losing weight with home schooling and home working is ferking hard and massive respect to anybody who tries
let alone succeeds

Best suggestion thoughts are

  • put some salad or steamed veg onto your plate as you serve up to make sure that your portion of the calorific meal is smaller

Lilice
The secret way to burn an extra 800 calories a day is to
avoid sitting down
in fact if you can stand up and move around and balance on one leg as much as possible
your postural muscles will rip through the calories more than you'd think

Welcome @Lndnmummy
This is one of the friendliest, most supportive corners of MN.

First off, you need to work out your sedentary TDEE, both at what you weigh now and what your happy weight will be

Going back to the stone age of 5:2, here is the weekly eating plan .... have a look and a think and see whether it might work for you :

Monday : 500 calories ~ lots of fluids and one SMALL meal and a bulky main meal
Tuesday : happy weight TDEE
Wednesday : as Tuesday
Thursday : as Monday
Friday : current weight TDEE
Saturday : yes, well, whatever
Sunday : current weight TDEE

@ListeningQuietly thank you so much! That’s really helpful!

Welcome @Lndnmummy

Can I join too please 🙂 I’ve just finished the 12 week on-line plan and lost 1.7 stone (11kg). I did 5:2 all along as that’s what the assessment recommended me. Now that the 12 weeks is done, I will carry on the 5:2 woe. It has been a lot easier than I thought at first!

My 800 cal days are Monday and Thursday, I’m planning to try my first TRE day tomorrow. So I will skip breakfast and have my 800 cal in 12-7pm window. Bit nervous but excited too 🙂 the other 5 days I will carry as normal, 3 meals a day at 1500 cal in total.

ListeningQuietly · 17/01/2021 13:53

Hi there @RedHotChiliChips and welcome aboard.

The cool thing about 5:2 is that its a Way of Eating rather than a "diet plan"
And yes, you can vary it and fit it around real life and stop and start.

11 kg in 12 weeks is brilliant.
5:2 will give you the tools to make sure the weight stays off Smile

I'm really dreading fasting tomorrow. I'm not sure why! I've got all my food planned but for some reason I don't feel like I want to eat it.

ListeningQuietly · 17/01/2021 20:05

Kylie
Tomorrow is another day

Wake up
see how you feel
play it by ear from there

KylieKoKo · 17/01/2021 21:18

I'm hoping I will more like it tomorrow @ListeningQuietly

I don't want to delay it unless I have to as I'd rather get it out of the way.

harriethoyle · 17/01/2021 21:34

@KylieKoKo I'm fasting with you tomorrow... we can do this! Grin

KylieKoKo · 17/01/2021 22:04

I'll stick to it solidarity with you @harriethoyle Grin

The days themselves aren't that bad, it's more the thought of them.

KateMAB · 18/01/2021 09:35

I'm fasting here as well, we can do this

KylieKoKo · 18/01/2021 11:21

I am reluctantly fasting today.

My main meal today will be a spicy prawn and veg soup with and miso soup, salad and a boiled egg should I need it.

ListeningQuietly · 18/01/2021 11:23

Fasting today
Morning yoga done
third cup of tea cooling down
omelette planned for supper

the weather is due to be pants later in the week so jump around while you can Smile

Also fasting today - good luck Monday fasters.

I go through to 5 pm or so and then have my calories in one meal.

Planning on steamfresh veg, peanut curry, then some homemade yoghurt and cinnamon.

It's hard going in January

KylieKoKo · 18/01/2021 14:27

I just went for a lunch walk and have a HIIT class later. I am feeling a bit peckish and cold so am about to have a miso soup with some cucumber and cherry tomatoes on the side.

RedHotChiliChips · 18/01/2021 14:50

Thank you @ Listening Smile

I did my first 16 hour fast this morning, finished eating at 6:30pm last night and had my usual morning smoothie at 10:30am today. I've always been a breakfast person and I woke up hungry today which made me waver a bit at first but glad I persevered and it was actually fine in the end. On Thursday I will try to last until lunch time as eating between 12-7pm would work best for me.

I had a black espresso whilst DC had their breakfast and usually I have a double espresso with 80ml of warm milk but this time I tried a pinch of sea salt mixed in with the espresso and it actually worked. I quite enjoyed the coffee and I'm not a black coffee drinker usually. It also took the edge off the hunger.

Feeling very positive now that fasting is actually something that I can now hack.

ListeningQuietly · 18/01/2021 15:11

Well done Redhot
And remember that the odd rumble of hunger is nothing to worry about.
Its perfectly normal to be hungry at least once a day.

Kitchen closing on 709 on day 1 of b2b. A bit higher than I'd like but I don't think the excess 59 calories are make or break... 🤞

ginsparkles · 18/01/2021 17:48

Hi all. Hope you all had a good weekend. I had a lovely one but wasn't as disciplined with counting on the NFD's and I think that will show on the scales.

So onwards and downwards .... good fast day today, have had a bit of chicken and a babybel so far today. And I have a salmon and rocket omelette for tea. Kitchen should close around 450.

Generally I see people post their FD kitchen closing, would it be ok with others if I posted my NFD's too? It might make me more accountable if I have to tell you each day.

ListeningQuietly · 18/01/2021 18:02

Over the years these threads have been great for recipe ideas, exercise ideas, coping ideas
so yes, definitely
information about what an NFD looks like is welcome
(especially for newcomers finding their feet)
