Decided to weigh myself midweek after Sunday's disappointment and had lost 3 pounds so feeling a lot happier. Didn't find fasting so onerous this week and have stocked up on some soups for next week.

ListeningQuietly · 27/02/2021 12:55

WELL DONE Rara
And yes, its nice to plan fun food for the week.

On my way home, feeling glum. There's a definitely a change in him since two weeks ago.

harriethoyle · 27/02/2021 15:28

So sorry @ginsparkles. The incremental decline is tough. Hope you've got a big wine waiting Wine

ginsparkles · 27/02/2021 15:39

Thanks @harriethoyle I'm not sure what I was expecting but it's quite sad to see. He got tired faster, struggled to speak. And seeing him unable to move without help from one chair to another is so hard to watch. He got quite teary as he hugged DD today, I think he knows too. I hate this.

Wine and cheese is waiting when I get home.

ListeningQuietly · 27/02/2021 16:10

I am so sorry gin
Do you have a hospice lined up so that he can have people cooking for him and looking after him so that he does not struggle?

And yes, definitely a glass of Wine and watch the late afternoon sun.

ginsparkles · 27/02/2021 16:38

I'm not sure, I spoke to his cancer nurse last week and she said that the hospice team were in constant communication with him and his partner so if it was needed they could sort things. That's a decision he and his partner need to make. For now he wants to be at home. I guess I expected him to be much the same. I'm sad that I was wrong. I had said I would go back down at Easter, I now fear this may be to long to wait.

ListeningQuietly · 27/02/2021 16:45

Gin
I am glad they have the communication channels open.

My friend whose husband died at Christmas was very anti moving to the hospice until the morning he decided to do it.
Because the preparations had been done, they were there by lunch time.

Its bloody tough but the UK's hospice system is the best in the world.

Look after yourself for now.

@ginsparkles my mum wanted to stay at home so we had Age uk in four times a day until her last week and they were great. Our local hospice did a "hospice at home" service and they came out for her last night and that was invaluable - meant I felt able to go and get some sleep rather than sit up. So there are lots of at home options if that's what your dad would prefer xx

harriethoyle · 27/02/2021 16:58

Yes @ListeningQuietly it's absolutely excellent. They really were my saviours towards the end

ginsparkles · 27/02/2021 17:18

Thank you both. I'll have a little wallow tonight and then pull my big girl pants back on tomorrow xx

harriethoyle · 27/02/2021 17:52

Pfffft. Pants are overrated in my book @ginsparkles! You cast them off whenever you want WinkGrin

ginsparkles · 27/02/2021 17:53

You make a good point! Grin

FoolShapeHeart · 27/02/2021 22:17

Hi, can I join you all? (I realise I'm coming in part-way through an obviously difficult conversation above, sorry x)

I did 5:2 years ago which worked well for me, and I've been spending Feb trying to get into some better habits but with limited success, so I'm throwing myself into March on multiple levels & need some accountability to keep me focussed. The 3 step plan is:

  1. 5:2 (Sun & Wed usually)
  2. 16:8 (10-6 or 11-7)
  3. C25K + daily stretching

I'm aiming to drop an average of 0.1kg per day which works out around a fairly standard 1.5lbs/wk, but I don't really understand metric weights so hopefully will avoid the traditional emotional reaction to my planned weekly weigh in!

ListeningQuietly · 27/02/2021 22:26

Welcome to the gang @FoolShapeHeart
Every day is a good day to welcome new people
because we are a mixture of weight loss, support and silliness.

Try not to think about a daily weight loss as you will naturally fluctuate
a weekly pound and a half or 3kg a fortnight is sustainable and doable.

Welcome @FoolShapeHeart

@ginsparkles I can’t even begin to imagine how hard that is, and will be, for you. Just sending lots of love and thoughts

ginsparkles · 28/02/2021 06:50

Welcome @FoolShapeHeart

And thanks everyone for being lovely. Xx

Benjispruce2 · 28/02/2021 07:46

Hi @FoolShapeHeart Smile

RaraRachael · 28/02/2021 10:06

I've put on 4 pounds since Wednesday! So depressed. Does this diet actually work as I don't want to continue being miserable and starving twice a week if it doesn't Sad

PartTimeDomesticGoddess · 28/02/2021 10:17

Thank you for the welcome. And to @KobaniDaughters
Agree that pants are overrated (especially big girl ones!). Unmumsnetty hugs to those having a hard time.
Have meal planned for the week and planning tue and thu fasting.
@RaraRachael it can be worth experimenting with fast days and how you tackle them. Some people find that using their calories in one meal works best, I am better if I spread them across 2 smaller meals (or even 2 small meals and an even smaller snack!) I discovered that sometimes even 20 calories is enough to tide me over. For me, distraction or doing something interactive at work can be really helpful too

ListeningQuietly · 28/02/2021 11:11

Rara
Hmm, have you been tracking everything you eat ?
literally every mouthful and sip?
What did your daily calorie intake come out at over the whole week?
as NO weight loss approach will work if you do not have a calorie deficit of around 1500 calories per pound loss.

Also you should not feel starving on fast days. Hungry, yes but starving no.
Increase your intake of water
and up your basic exercise (standing, walking, not leaning back in a chair)
and track your food for a week and then you might get a clearer picture.

I wanted to share this article with everybody
www.newscientist.com/article/mg24933230-700-metabolism-myths-7-things-we-get-wrong-about-diet-and-exercise/
It is paywalled but
the book of the article comes out next week
www.amazon.co.uk/Burn-Misunderstood-Metabolism-Herman-Pontzer/dp/0241388422?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

I was REALLY chuffed reading it because our focus on
sedentary TDEE of happy weight
is pretty much what he's saying will work.

Its slow, but it works Smile

harriethoyle · 28/02/2021 11:34

@RaraRachael I can fluctuate WILDLY in a week. But if you weigh every week on the same day and check back in 6 weeks if you've properly followed this wol, I promise you will have lost weight. Have attached my progress graph and you'll see what I mean when you look at the trajectory. Don't be defeated!
