I’m so grateful to my mum right now. We never had the snack mentality so I have very rarely eaten between meals. Drinking, now that’s another thing altogether!!

KnobJockey · 10/02/2021 14:16

@ListeningQuietly I'm forgoing the wine (and some of the meal calories!) To indulge my sweet tooth instead 😁 each to their own on that one though!

KnobJockey · 10/02/2021 14:18

@Benjispruce2 my mum is skinny and always has been, but lives on snacks- she would much rather make a tray of sausage rolls and pick at them than eat a dinner. She's also a wine guzzler.

Whereas I can go for months without a drink, but when a night out is offered I make up for it without a doubt 😁

Benjispruce2 · 10/02/2021 15:46

I guess that shows you can’t do both so pick your poison carefully. I have teenage DDs and I’m very careful to make sure I eat at mealtimes as they’re very aware of disordered eating etc and I don’t want to talk diets with them around. FD is tricky so I try to eat as close to a normal meal as possible in the evening so my DD17 doesn’t notice.

ListeningQuietly · 10/02/2021 18:04

I started 5:2 when my kids were in their early teens.
I pointed out to them that middle aged adults with desk jobs
need less calories than teenagers with rugby habits.

I told them they had to have breakfast till their bones stopped growing, after that it was their choice.
Both are now young adults living at home due to COVID
healthy weights and very different eating patterns that suit them.

Its worth getting them to work out their own TDEE and yours
as then it shows them that every person needs a different amount of food each day
and allows mindful eating

Not sure if you have girls that play rugby but they are quite sensitive about food and body talk. They’re both slim and eat a great diet but the Insta generation unfortunately are bombarded with beauty standards that are unrealistic so I avoid any mention. I’m not overweight so it’s a tricky subject.

Benjispruce2 · 10/02/2021 18:12

Anyway, kitchen closed 1435. Really enjoyed a halloumi and red onion omelette tonight after a cold lunch.Second FD tomorrow.

ListeningQuietly · 10/02/2021 18:22

Benji
My daughter shook off the pressure of perfection when she started looking at fat percentage and muscle percentage rather than weight
thank goodness for access to a BodiTrax machine
but yes, its really tricky

Hello everyone, i hope you're all doing well. I finished my second FD of the week on 495. It wasnt easy, i was tired and in a bad mood. Im also stopping breastfeeding and feeling quite low. This is the 4th week on the 5 2 and i dont feel any slimmer, my clothes fit the same and my belly still looks like I'm pregnant. Im too scared of weighing myself for fear of throwing the scales out the window. Im annoyed that cant exercise because I don't have a minute to myself anymore. Im fed up of having to homeschool two young children whilst looking after a 4 months old. Sorry for complaining so much 😔 I know I should count my blessings instead

Benjispruce2 · 10/02/2021 22:31

Hey, sounds like you’re doing a very important job and 4 months post party is early days! Everybody fed, nobody dead as my Nan used to say. Bit basic but helps at times. I think once you stop bf your body will allow you to let go of the extra weight from memory. Perhaps wait until March when you’ll have more time(fingers crossed)to plan and just try to eat well until then.Flowers

Benjispruce2 · 10/02/2021 22:32

Post partum not party! Definitely not a party!Grin

Lilice · 10/02/2021 23:03

Haha I thought post party was a fun way to look at it, I like it. I do wonder if the bf is making my body cling to the extra fat. I breastfed my other kids for a very short time and didn't struggle as much with the extra weight. I lost most of it fairly quickly and got rid of the last kilos on the 5 2. Whereas this time, I'm still wearing my maternity leggings most days. I know it's still early days, baby is 5 months next week, I need to be patient

Lilice · 10/02/2021 23:07

I like your nan's saying by the way 😊

KobaniDaughters · 11/02/2021 01:47

Oh @Lilice 4 months post birth is so early and right bang in the middle of that shitty sleep regression - also, I don’t know about you but when I stopped breastfeeding I got really depressed, I think the change in hormones massively affected my mood - take care of yourself.

I’ve inadvertently done a FD today, was going to do my second one either tomorrow or Friday but decided to log what I’ve eaten and I’m at 637 and while I haven’t had dinner (snacked this afternoon though) I’m working all evening so can’t eat until late anyway so might just close the kitchen now and feel glad I’ve got them both out of the way already!

KobaniDaughters · 11/02/2021 04:04

Ok got hungry and had another bowl of soup and a cup of tea with cashew milk so NOW it’s 723. Calling it a half fast and sticking to plan for a proper

Benjispruce2 · 11/02/2021 07:34

Second FD today. Felling strong this morning so just a tea with splash of skimmed milk this morning. Good luck fellow fasters!

Gotheeunicorns · 11/02/2021 08:22

Morning. Can I join you please. I've been lurking for a month but need some motivation. I'm doing 5:2 and trying to be generally low carb the rest of the time (with a break on Friday evening).
I've found this week hard. I'm tired and hormonal and I have hardly lost a lb. I am definitely slimmer though, my clothes fit better and I'm more comfortable in them. I've been doing 3 x circuits per week, 3 x run and a couple of weights sessions (in my sitting room).
I had a fast day yesterday and did manage to keep to 500 Cals. I really wanted toast and marmalade this morning but I've had oats, blueberries and yoghurt instead. I struggle because I'm a fussy eater - I don't really like eggs or cheese (except with bread) so I find it hard to find easy food I like that will keep me sated.

Humphriescushion · 11/02/2021 08:23

Fast day for me - 4th one, and doing ok. I aim for 1200 calories on 3 other days - it is a bit lower than my "happy tdee" of 1300 but want to err on the side of caution while i am getting used to calorie counting and mfp - and if i go over a bit am not too hard on myself. I am actually finding this quite substantial which i am fairly sure i didnt at the beginning. I have a least one day "off" but still count the calories so i know where I am. Will see how this is panning out when I weigh tomorrow.
What do people think about the exercise calories on mfp? I have ignored this, but it is tempting to out exercise in and eat these calories.
Good luck fasters.

harriethoyle · 11/02/2021 08:30

I never eat exercise calories back @Humphriescushion - I always think of Jillian Michaels saying you can't out train a bad diet! I think it makes you much more likely to inadvertently overeat

Humphriescushion · 11/02/2021 09:27

I think you are right @ harriet, i was also a bit sceptical about how many calories it said i had burnt so ignored it. I was more likely to have been "phoning it in the gym!" Terrified of gillianGrin

harriethoyle · 11/02/2021 09:49

Don't be terrified. Pain is just fear leaving the body! Sweat is your fat crying! 😂😂😂

KylieKoKo · 11/02/2021 10:13

I am fasting today as yesterday I felt miserable and couldn't face it.

I doubt I will lose this week as I haven't eaten well at all but will see if it as a victory if I maintain.

KylieKoKo · 11/02/2021 10:35

@harriethoyle I don't think I could cope on 1200 a day on NFDs!

I don't eat back exercise calories but I workout most days (HIIT, strength and yoga for relaxation) and, at the moment, don't really count on NFDS and just try to be mindful (I failed miserably yesterday and "mindfully" ate a Dominos pizza).

However, I think that if I was sticking to 1200 I would probably need to eat a bit more on workout days.

KylieKoKo · 11/02/2021 10:36

Wrong tag it was meant to be @Humphriescushion in the post above

ListeningQuietly · 11/02/2021 10:43

Welcome @Gotheeunicorns
This is a really tough time for everybody.
All of my work feeds are full of people feeling utterly burnt out
and its too flipping cold to get outdoor exercise.

The best suggestion is to track what you eat
and aim for happy weight TDEE even if fast days go a bit sideways
as if you are eating what your body will need
then you are training it well
and getting a bit of a deficit every day
