Anyone interested in joining me here? I posted this on an older thread so will just copy and paste my story below:

I'm on day 8 doing the 16/8. I'm loving it!! I'm against dieting as restrictions always lead me to binges and feeling rubbish. I haven't weighed myself in 5 years as I got rid of my scales due to a very unhealthy obsession with weighing myself. I am very interested in intuitive eating and have been trying to get in tune with my body but it's been hard and the lockdown has thrown me off guard and I was overeating, feeling bloated and fed up. I'm loving 16/8. My eating window is 11-7 and I find this fits well with my lifestyle. I'm surprised at how much energy I have in the morning. Even managing an hour long walk with the dog ...getting up at 7 as well with lots of energy. Feeling less bloated and just happier overall! I think this is really helping me be more intuitively about what I actually want! Having good, hearty food. Butter and cheese and full fat yoghurt! These foods were always a no no for me but I much prefer theses to fat free/low fat options. I feel satisfied after my meals too .
Oh and I can't do this without a bit of milk in my morning coffee ( freshly brewed filter) so haven't cut that out. And have had a cheeky glass of wine during my eating window ...🍷

It's great to read of some good weightloss! It gives me the push to keep going. I like IF because it makes me feel good, but sometimes some old habits want to creep in. I'm trying to stay focused, there's a skirt I want to fit into!

Gordonbennit · 27/09/2020 14:27

Well done Perfectionist great to hear you’re feeling so good.

Weigh in day for me tomorrow iv waited for what seems like ages. Iv stuck to IF, apart from this morning when I absentmindedly started licking the spoon while baking a protein cake! Will see how it goes I’m really trying not to get hung up on the numbers as I do feel much healthier and my stomach is def flatter than before.

I’m upping my gym sessions next week after slobbing a bit over lockdown. Normally I have to eat something before the gym or I feel shaky and sick so will be interesting to see if I can handle it without anything in my stomach.

Good luck all have a great week Smile

FlowerPower35 · 27/09/2020 15:24

Hello! Two weeks into 16:8 and I'm down 5lbs! Which means, I've lost 9.5lbs since the end of July. Very happy with this. I've struggled to lose weight since coming off the pill last year.
But, the biggest thing I've noticed is how much more energy I've got and I'm a lot more focused with work these last two weeks. Could be coincidence but I'm feeling very positive :)
Also, my heart rate has improved, especially when I do my usual 3 mile walk - its not as high anymore. Has anybody else notice this difference?
My next goal is to get underneath 13st, which is only another 5lbs away! Smile

wildthingsinthenight · 27/09/2020 16:15

Well done to everyone for thelr losses!
I have lost 2 pds for the first week. Does this seem normal? I am used to keto when I would lose a pound a day the first week!!
Too difficult and not sustainable though

DownUdderer · 28/09/2020 09:52

Wildthings I think that's a pretty good loss for a week.

wildthingsinthenight · 28/09/2020 10:15

Thanks DownUdderer
My friend had lost 6 but she doesn't seem to be eating much at all.
Anyway..onwards!

DownUdderer · 29/09/2020 01:27

I think the first week is potentially just water weight being lost, it feels good if you lose it but I think IF has the potential to train yourself into a new way of eating. I still believe you need a calorie deficit to lose weight, and IF can help by stopping over eating and snacking. I guess once you've done IF for a long time, perhaps a year, it'd be ingrained. I'm really not sure what my plans are for when I reach my target weight. I guess it's a case of being responsible and weighing in once a month or once a week and altering eating accordingly.

I'm feeling frustrated this week with no weight loss, it's my totm so I think that's having an effect.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 29/09/2020 07:13

Hello everyone. I've only lost 2lb since I last weighed about 3 weeks ago, which is disappointing but. I was expecting it, and my belt says I've lost inches... It makes 27lb since 18th July which is good. I have a long way to go and was hoping for a couple more pounds off - I'm heavy enough for 2lb a week to be a reasonable goal - but meh, I know its not going to be linear.

DownUdderer · 29/09/2020 07:17

@UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme I think if your belt is telling you that you've lost inches then that's excellent news!

PerfectionistProcrastinator · 30/09/2020 08:31

So, after my happy post a few days ago I’ve looked over my weight logs the past couple of weeks and my weight loss has now slowed/plateaued. I still have at least a stone to lose. I’m not in a rush but would like to see movement again.

Does anyone combine 16:8 with 5:2? Is this ok to do?

DownUdderer · 30/09/2020 09:22

Yeah I should think a lot of people who do 5:2 also follow principles of 16:8

DownUdderer · 30/09/2020 23:14

It's the start of a new month! I had a good September, I managed my fasting every day except one, I was only a few minutes short that day though. Most days feel easy now, I can hang on for breakfast without too much effort. I lost some good weight and I'm keen to get closer to my goal weight this month. I'm feeling focused.

How's everyone else going?

Gordonbennit · 01/10/2020 09:21

I’m continuing with IF throughout October, after the initial weight loss in the first week I haven’t lost anything but then I haven’t gained any weight either, so can’t complain really. It has helped me feel some control over my eating patterns which iv never had, but I’m a snacker, some of my snack choices haven’t been the best on some days and I’ve noticed now the weather has changed and it’s colder I’m feeling the urge to eat more as most of my healthy go to snacks live in the fridge, I need to find things to snack on which aren’t cold.

Will see how it goes I think I look slimmer so that’s good. I even managed my gym classes without breakfast which was a big worry in my head.

What iv noticed for me is some days I’m starving and some days I don’t even notice how hungry I am and could probably go longer until I eat. Weird.

Good luck everyone hope October brings some weight loss for us all!!

wildthingsinthenight · 01/10/2020 12:12

Happy October fasting all!

I agree to feeling in control of my eating Gordonbennit
Good to hear you're doing well DownUdderer
I'm planning on continuing IF into Oct.

First day I haven't waited to break fast properly today. I'm not well and need to take tablets which I need food for. So started to eat earlier than I should have.
Usually I would feel I'd failed if I was on another type of diet but with IF I feel fine about it?
I will stop eating at 7 as usual though.
Sofa day today!

Sissy31 · 01/10/2020 12:31

Hi all

Hope you're all doing well!

Ive lost 2lbs, since cutting down on carbs.
I wouldnt say i am particularly enjoying it, but its not as much of a struggle as i expected - which is good!

@Gordonbennit I have hungry days too! Mood/Hormones maybe? I'm never quite sure but if im hungrier and it doesnt go away i eat a little more and if i'm not i dont

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 01/10/2020 13:33

Well done Sissyand DownUdderer !

I'm thinking I'll add 5:2 to the mix too Perfectionist - will try it and see how it goes.

I got blood test results back a couple of days ago and while cholesterol is in the healthy range (and I know my blood presure is fine) my liver values are elevated, probably indicating fatty liver, so I really have to get my weight back to a healthy level to sort that out!

DownUdderer · 02/10/2020 02:43

I managed a 16.5 hour fast this morning, I had breakfast half an hour later than usual. I'm trying to focus on drinking plenty of water today.

pearshapedcat · 03/10/2020 08:12

So this morning, after 87 fasting days I have hit my initial goal weight of 133lbs. This is down from 153lbs at the start of July.

Funny thing is I don't feel that different, although my jeans are looser. I think I will carry on and try and get down to around 9 stone (126lbs).

DownUdderer · 03/10/2020 08:43

Pearshapedcat I bet it must feel good to have reached a goal weight though! 87 days, so 3 months-ish? Pretty good going. Gives me hope.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 04/10/2020 09:52

pearshapedcat well done! I think not feelung different is par for the course, because the change is gradual (even 87 days is gradual in terms of not seeing the 20lb go literally overnight - its hard to notice wgen you see yourself every day 😁😆 but if you bumped into a friend you last saw at the end of June they would notice.

Do you have any photos of yourself at 153lb? If so put the same outfit on, take a photo and compare the photos!

DownUdderer · 04/10/2020 23:23

I'm just 9lb from target weight now. Over half way, from where I started out, that's a relief!

How's everyone else going?

HolaVida · 05/10/2020 16:00

Fell off the wagon for a week- now back on it and determined to lose some weight! Am also trying to reduce what I eat during the 8hrs- no snacking etc. Keen to feel good again.

GoldPaperStars · 05/10/2020 20:09

Hi all. I’m back on the fasting bandwagon after a few years off. I’m 9 months pp and struggling to loose the last stone.

A couple of questions if I may? Has anyone lost on this while eating “normally” in the 8 hours or is there always a change of the type of food that you eat? Also, what are people’s thoughts on drinking Diet Coke or sugar free squash in the fasting period? I don’t drink tea or coffee so it would be nice to have something to tide me over.

pearshapedcat · 06/10/2020 06:23

@GoldPaperStars I think those drinks would make your insulin spike during the fasting period so I would avoid personally. As for food during the eating window, I think fasting works so well because you would naturally eat yes as you skip a meal and have less time to eat in. If you eat the same amount of calories you would normally, it probably won't be as effective.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 06/10/2020 06:36

GoldPaperStars as pearshapedcat says the difference between a calorie reduced diet and intermittent fasting is the fact you don't eat or drink anything which causes your body to respond as it would to food (i.e to produce insulin) during your fasting time. If you drink suger free squash and diet fizzy drinks outside your eating time then you're really just doing a calorie reduced diet using time limits to help you limit your calories. If you then also eat the same food you normally would but bunch it up to eat during your eating window, you are achieving absolutely nothing at all - you've negated both the calorie reduced diet and the fasting elements!

I'd say if you did one or the other - "dirty fast" (drink your drinks) but "make good food choices" (so adapt your eating by reducing portion sizes and mostly avoiding refined sugar and not snacking on junk, just fruit, nuts or other unprocessed food in moderation), or clean fast and eat your normal foods in your wondow, but without binging, you'd lose, if slowly.

Most people seem to "make good choices" about food and lose - you don't need to do low carb/ keto. You can't over eat though.
