Anyone interested in joining me here? I posted this on an older thread so will just copy and paste my story below:

I'm on day 8 doing the 16/8. I'm loving it!! I'm against dieting as restrictions always lead me to binges and feeling rubbish. I haven't weighed myself in 5 years as I got rid of my scales due to a very unhealthy obsession with weighing myself. I am very interested in intuitive eating and have been trying to get in tune with my body but it's been hard and the lockdown has thrown me off guard and I was overeating, feeling bloated and fed up. I'm loving 16/8. My eating window is 11-7 and I find this fits well with my lifestyle. I'm surprised at how much energy I have in the morning. Even managing an hour long walk with the dog ...getting up at 7 as well with lots of energy. Feeling less bloated and just happier overall! I think this is really helping me be more intuitively about what I actually want! Having good, hearty food. Butter and cheese and full fat yoghurt! These foods were always a no no for me but I much prefer theses to fat free/low fat options. I feel satisfied after my meals too .
Oh and I can't do this without a bit of milk in my morning coffee ( freshly brewed filter) so haven't cut that out. And have had a cheeky glass of wine during my eating window ...🍷

I’m a bit peeved today, it’s my weigh in day and I haven’t lost any weight since last week 😤 I have stuck to my fasting window without fail and know that my calorie intake has been sufficiently low (tracking on MFP). I measured and I have lost half an inch off my waist and bum since last week so there is progress, but it would be nice if the scales reflected it too!

Zwerty · 12/06/2020 15:10

That’s really frustrating @CaveMum if you’ve been working hard at it. Obviously very very new to this and the thread but could some exercise before you break your fast help? I was reading 8 hours last night (free version on Google books!) and it was suggesting even 8 minutes of exercise before the eating period could help super charge things!!

CaveMum · 12/06/2020 15:21

I’m doing Couch to 5k at the moment so definitely doing my exercise! To be fair I dropped 4lbs in the first week so not like I haven’t lost anything, hopefully it’s just water retention or something.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 12/06/2020 16:49

Am on week 2. Saw no difference at all during week 1, which was massively disappointing as had stuck to my fasting hours religiously. However, tomorrow is my weigh-in day and jeans are feeling a bit looser this week so hoping I've lost something.

Mostly I'm finding it fairly easy to keep to fasting hours. I've never been much of a breakfast eater anyway. Last night I found myself ravenous at 8pm but manage not to cheat.

ElspethFlashman · 12/06/2020 17:39

I haven't weighed myself in a few days so am not sure where I'm at but I definitely look a bit better. Not that anyone would notice, but me, mind. But I am definitely less bloated looking. I'm not as self conscious, or pulling at my top when talking to someone. Honestly that alone makes me happy.

I am finding myself occasionally ravenous. And am probably drinking more tea than normal just to close the gap. I generally do longer fasts than 16 hrs just because of the nature of my job which is in a hospital. So breaks are few and far between.

But I'm managing. I appreciate not having to really worry about meal planning that much, I literally don't have the time and I have kids to cook for as it is! So am relieved not to have to eat differently to the rest of the family.

I did have a cheat night on Wednesday. Absolutely brutal day at work, only to come home to the news that our creche isn't reopening till September. So had 2 big glasses of wine and several biscuits. But back at it since. And it was totally worth it!

Sissy31 · 12/06/2020 20:40

Ive eaten more than usual today, the chocolate cravings beat me!
Fasted for 18.5 hours then had tea 2 slices of toast
A handful of chocolate curly wurly bites
Chicken breast, homemade potato wedges and alot of veg.
Strawberries, apple and grapes
Just over 1500 calories!
Closed my window at 6.30pm and plan to fast for longer tomorrow if i can!

beautifulmonument · 13/06/2020 07:03

I'm on day 11 and feeling a little slimmer!
I've been getting headaches for the last 3 days though and wondering if it's because of the fasting. I know I'm drinking lots of water and getting my usual caffeine intake. And I'm not restricting calories so I feel like I'm eating enough food in my eating window. Hopefully it's just a phase. Did anyone else get headaches?

Pandapotato · 13/06/2020 07:58

Morning all! My scales have moved down again today after a stagnant few days. Last weekends cake fest didn’t help I’m sure!
I’ve now lost 8lbs since I started if properly. It’s coming off slowly, but I’m hoping that means it will stay off.

@Zwerty I love the energy I get from doing this. My levels feel so much more consistent throughout the day.
Your dinner sounds delicious. I love gnocchi. Friday night is pizza night here. I had heaps of salad with mine to fill up. I’m currently obsessed with radishes and beetroot. Yum!

@CaveMum my scales are not shifting at all some weeks, then a few pounds the next.

Good luck with your weigh in @BatleyTownswomensGuild.

@ElspethFlashman sounds like the wine and biscuits were much needed. One of the things I like about if is that I find it much easier to “get back on the wagon” after a blip than I do with other ways of eating.

Mmmmm @Sissy31 I love curly wurly bites!

@beautifulmonument it’s probably your body adjusting to the fast. Make sure you are drinking enough. A pinch of salt can help too I think and doesn’t break your fast. They say to have pink Himalayan salt, but I tried with sea salt and found it helped.

Anyone else getting a foul taste in their mouth towards the end of a fast? It’s a bit grim, but I just googled and apparently it’s a good sign that I’m burning stored fat. Who knew bad breath could feel so positive 🤣

georgie279 · 13/06/2020 08:17

Hi

Please can I join??

I'm 12 stone at 5'7 and really want to get down to 10st or even just 11st that I was pre baby a year ago!

I'm so self conscious of my weight, I had an emergency c section so I now have 'the shelf' and I'm constantly bloated, I'm sure I have a gluten intolerance to be honest, every time I eat bread/pasta or rice I bloat massively & have stomach pains.

Husband has lost 5st on the keto diet but I just can't do it, he's back to eating carbs now but we do mostly eat low carb meals, it's the snacking in between & eating/picking at baby's foods Sad

Want to try the 16:8 diet & hopefully loose some weight, can anyone tell me what would be their typical day eating after breaking their fast?? Grin

georgie279 · 13/06/2020 08:22

Also I'm pretty good at fasting till 12/1pm sometimes even 2pm but I'll break it with the most unhealthiest foods! I'm awful for it... burgers/sweet things or just unhealthy snacks.

What are the best things to eat to fill me up after fasting?

ElspethFlashman · 13/06/2020 08:33

Georgie you just basically eat 2 proper meals. The snacking can add up to a third meals worth of calories without you even noticing and it won't work then. The whole point is that it makes you eat less.

I weighed myself this morning and I've lost 11lbs in 13 days. It doesn't look that much on my body, but hopefully it'll start to be noticeable after I pass the stone mark.

This has been the quickest I've lost weight in my entire life. Not even Slimming World was this quick. I'm actually very surprised as I have 2 cheat nights a week set aside for a glass of wine or a slimline G&T. Feels very sustainable to me.

CaveMum · 13/06/2020 08:59

Welcome aboard georgie, some people like to break their fast with a small snack of fruit and a cup of tea and then push on through, personally I go for something high in protein like an omelette that will fill me up for a good few hours.

I use My Fitness Pal to help me keep a rough track of the calories I’m consuming, if I’m below my target then I might allow myself a treat just before my window closes, like an ice cream or a GnT.

CaveMum · 13/06/2020 08:59

Well done on the loss Elspeth, that’s great work.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 13/06/2020 09:47

So weighed in this morning.

My scales say I haven't lost anything but the tape measure and my jeans suggest otherwise.

New scales it is then....

Sissy31 · 13/06/2020 10:41

Well done for your loss Elspeth!

Welcome @georgie279 !
I tend to break my fast with a cup of tea and 1 slice of toast (2 slices if i'm extra hungry), usually that can get me through to dinner.
If you are a snacker, what i do is make up a bowl of carrot sticks, cucumber, tomatos, peppers ect and have it to hand to pick at during the day, or fruit if you prefer something sweeter. I make up 2 or 3 containers of them at a time and keep them in the fridge so i dont have to chop them every day and can just grab one readymade out of the fridge. I do both.
I always crave something sweet of an evening, so just before my eating window closes i pick at my fruit box whilst watching TV or cleaning up which helps.

I weighed myself today and have stayed the same, which is a little dissappointing. The weather is lovely today so going to go on a long walk before i break my fast!

ElspethFlashman · 13/06/2020 11:42

I have to just stipulate I'm 30lbs overweight (if aiming for a BMI of 25) so I imagine that's why it came off so quick.

I imagine it's be slower if I had less to lose!

georgie279 · 13/06/2020 12:32

Thanks for all the advice!

I broke my fast with poached eggs on one slice of toast & a banana... should get me through to dinner time Grin I didn't pick at the baby's food either, quiche, banana & baby crisps Grin

So far so good I think!

Pandapotato · 15/06/2020 16:33

How is everyone today? I had wine last night so didn’t manage a fast and have basically ate my body weight in crisps today. Whoops!
Back on it tomorrow.

Sissy31 · 15/06/2020 16:48

I did 23 hours yesterday and ates fsirly okay.
Have done 18 hours today and eaten good so far, though i have had a little bit of chocolate, and been for a long walk this morning.
I am making a curry tonight for dinner and we are having movie night so there is popcorn and sweers around to avoid!

ElspethFlashman · 15/06/2020 20:23

I find I do fine except on mornings after cheat nights. Then I'm ravenous and I can't go longer than noon even if that's not quite 16 hrs.

But on normal days I'm fine. But cheat nights are necessary from time to time!

CaveMum · 15/06/2020 20:54

I’m doing ok, clothes definitely feeling looser bit trying to resist the temptation to get on the scales more than once a week!

Sissy31 · 16/06/2020 09:56

Feel super hungry today and lots of pre period cravings Sad
Today will be hard!

Pandapotato · 16/06/2020 19:05

I did 19 hours today. A bit better than yesterday, where I basically binged on crisps and Kit Kat’s. I love wine, but it makes me so rough.

Hope you’ve all had a good day!

Waiting2020 · 16/06/2020 19:47

Hello. Hope you don't mind me jumping in. I started trying to do 16:8 last week and managed fine. Totally lost it the last two days and eaten everything in sight. Blush Going to have wine tonight and then try to fast until 2pm tomorrow and get back on track...
