Blood sugar diet and Fast800 thread 15

thenewaveragebear1983 · 23/05/2019 07:34

Here’s the new thread for the BSD followers, plus those following the Fast800 plan. Everyone is welcome to join us. Here’s a quick recap!

The BSD/fast 800 is a low carb, Mediterranean style way of eating, with the primary aim of stabilising your insulin response when you eat. You achieve this by: eating fewer carbs, cutting out sugar and sweet tasting foods including most fruit, and by following a low calorie plan that reduces your visceral fat meaning that everything functions more effectively. Less insulin means less fat storage (in a nutshell, although more info can be found on this online). The diet was designed to reduce T2 diabetes symptoms (or even reverse it entirely) but can also be used for weightloss.

Eat:
Meats and fish
Oils
Eggs
Full fat dairy products
Nuts, seeds
Pulses/ beans
Veg that grows above ground
Limit fruit: apples, pears, berries- in moderation, with meals, with fats

Occasional alcoholic drinks allowed (spirits, red wine are preferable to beer, lager, etc)
Tea and coffee, herbal tea etc.
And water- drink lots of water!

Avoid
sugar, sweets, and ‘naturally occurring sugars’ such as fructose, maltose, honey, agave, puréed dates etc....

Potatoes of any variety
Pasta
Rice
Breakfast cereals (occasional steel cut oats are ok)
Breads/ flour based products

Exercise:
Michael Moseley recommends HIIT workouts to increase calorie burn and help to tone up, and recommends walking more (increasing your steps weekly until you hit around 10000 a day)

Mindfulness
MM also suggests a programme of mindfulness, meditation, practised for a few minutes each day.

How to follow the plan:
Fast800: follow the plan above, sticking to 800 calories every day for 2 weeks. Ideal to give your weightloss a real kick start, plus improve your insulin function and reduce your sugar cravings.
8 weeks BSD- 8 weeks, follow the guidelines above- 800 calories a day. You don’t need to count carbs grams because the diet is naturally self limiting.
BSD 5:2- for a more leisurely weightloss journey, or as maintenance, or once you’ve done an 8 week stint or 2 weeks of Fast800, you can play around with a combination of increased calorie count, ‘free eating’ and fasting days (800 cals) until you achieve your goals. Many of our long standing members now follow this approach.

You can stop 800 calorie days at any time once you achieve your goal. It’s advised to limit yourself to 12 weeks maximum at 800 calorie days, but you should get excellent results in 8 weeks. Depending on your weightloss goals, you can do further ‘rounds’ of either the 8 week BSD or the Fast800.

Ohyesiam what a brilliant Weight loss in just 8 weeks! I bet you're over the moon! Please do post a picture of your dress, we'd love to see it!

I love the moments of reflection we have on this diet. I've learned so much about myself and the way I eat and have eaten all my life, simply by cutting out one type of food- it's incredible really. And we never stop learning/changing either; I've gone nearly 4 weeks now without cheese, yogurt or milk (my big 3 dairy culprits) and oh my, it's made me realise just how much of it I was eating and how I definitely wasn't counting it or tracking it properly. It had become my 'approved binge food' as in, it's on plan and allowed but I didn't use it within the parameters of the plan, I all out binged on it. Since stopping it I haven't lost particularly large amounts of weight, but I do feel more in control of my eating in general.

See my post above: it's actually only 2.5 weeks without dairy....feels like longer haha!!

Closing the kitchen today on 1267 cals, 70g carbs, 18k steps. Slightly higher than I hoped for but still well within tdee and I've not snacked or had any sugar, alcohol or dairy.

My dinner was absolutely delicious- I made a mix in an old jar: coconut milk, soy sauce, peanut butter powder, ginger and garlic, and a bit of chilli. Shake it all up into a paste. Pour over chicken thighs and bake in the oven until chicken is cooked. I only used about half so I've put the rest in the freezer. I made a stir fry of red cabbage, carrot ribbons and sugar snap peas and served it with broccoli rice - hence the high carb count today with all that veg! It was so tasty and really filling.

I want to see your dress too @ohyes!

I really noticed today my boobs are seriously heading south. I've always had really perky (big) boobs but with this weight loss they look so different. Not sure how to deal with it...

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/07/2019 16:18

Mine have literally disappeared, I can count my ribs through them not even joking. And yet according to the style and beauty bra gurus on here, I'm a 30DD- how is that even possible??!!! They don't even meet in the middle!

My wedding dress!
My remit was wanting to feel like a walking summer day.
It’s by Nancy Mac.

Ohyes that's so pretty! Gorgeous!

I'm closing the kitchen today on 1150 cals, 77g carbs, 23k steps (6.5k was a run and the rest was just busy!). I really nicely back in control, very calm. My foods been great, I haven't snacked, I've drunk loads of water. I'm slightly apprehensive about the weekend ahead as it always seems to go wrong at the weekends but my plan is to not drink too much and keep my food in check, nice meals are already planned and I'm feeling optimistic!

Thanks Bear!
I’m very happy because I got my woosh! So now I’ve lost 2 stone 6.5 lbs in 8 weeks and 2 days.
I need to learn I can trust the woosh, because my fat feels different somehow just before I have one. It feels really soft and flabby( I’m fat but solid normally) .
I’m trying to think what that’s about. If it were water, it would feel more solid ( like fluid retention) not less. and yet it’s got to be losing water that causes a woosh?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/07/2019 19:05

Ohyes read up about squishy fat- it's a thing. Amazing that you've recognised it and you can use it to motivate yourself to continue..

Today for me has been an unmitigated disaster. Without warning, food just became out of my control and I just ate it without thinking and it set me right off. I'm just going to treat today as my one cheat day and enjoy my glass of rose in the sun rather than beat myself up, as it's waaaaaay too late to claw it back now.

Tomorrow: fast in the morning (biggest downfall today was eating breakfast with the kids rather than wait til lunchtime, it never ends well), I'm doing bootcamp at 8am and will also do a short run in the afternoon. I need to not just free rein all weekend so will endeavour to stick to plan as best as I can, weigh everything and write it down before I eat it. My meals are planned out so in theory, the hard work is done- just the small matter of sticking to it.

If I can end this weekend the same weight I started it (10.5.5) then that will be a great win, and an overall decent weightloss for the week so that's my aim.

ohyes your dress is absolutely stunning. You are going to look and feel amazing on the day.

My fat just seems to be squishy all the time now!

Maccalenny · 06/07/2019 06:56

I seem to be in a proper plateau for the first time since starting. For most of the week I was up a couple of lb, and just dropped back to my lowest weight of 13st3.4 over the last two days. So my losses overall for the last three weeks are minimal, for no logical reason - I’m not eating more than usual, or anything I shouldn’t be. So it will be interesting to see what next week brings. I still want to lose at least a stone, preferably a stone and a half, but am a bit worried about how I will stick to plan over the summer holiday, especially if my weight loss has slowed. Hopefully next week will be better and I will be reinspired to manage the lack of routine of the summer.

Start: 16st8.4
End of Month 1: 15st3.6 - 18.8lb lost
End of Month 2: 14st11.2 - 6.4lb lost
End of Month 3: 14st0.4 - 10.8lb lost
End of Month 4: 13st5.0 - 9.4lb lost
Month 5 week 2: 13st3.4 - 1.6lb lost

Should be Month 5 week 3, not week 2. Overall 1.6lb in three weeks Sad

millionaireshortie · 06/07/2019 07:43

Joining thread! You are all doing so well! I'm getting myself prepared to start Monday. Loving all the recipe /meal suggestions :)

Maccalenny · 06/07/2019 17:02

Welcome millionaire!

Maccalenny · 06/07/2019 19:44

Bear I hope your day has gone according to plan.

I had a really nice nsv today...realised that I had my belt on my jeans done up at the 2nd from smallest hole. I don’t really notice usually, but today there seemed to be a lot of belt to tuck out of the way! When I started I had just had to move up to the largest hole. So proud I took a photo!

GreyBasket · 07/07/2019 11:35

👋🏻 I'd love to join you all.

I keep searching for a code or something to make the online £99 plan a little more palatable, but I've not found anything.

So I am wondering if I should buy the recipe book instead...

I will find not having potatoes or bread very hard indeed 😔 But I need to lose just over two stone and a chunk of belly fat.

But the alcohol loss will be the hardest 😩

BloomedAgain · 07/07/2019 11:48

I just use the book. I do have the occasional slice of toast but do log everything on my fitness pal so I know I'm not exceeding calories.

GreyBasket · 07/07/2019 12:11

@BloomedAgain I have my fitness pal, but the minimum I can set the calorie setting is for 1200 so that was annoying me!

Do you just ignore that and use it just for logging?

BloomedAgain · 07/07/2019 12:22

Yes I just ignore!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/07/2019 12:52

Welcome millionaire and grey!

I use 'fat secret' to track my calories, it doesn't have a minimum amount- however I actually set mine to 1800 anyway, as I like to see how especially good I've been!! It doesn't send reminders if I undercut though.

Macca thanks, it sort of went to plan. Weekend breakfasts are my biggest downfall. Today I've not eaten until lunch, (now) and I feel so much better for it!

download and have a play...

Maccalenny · 07/07/2019 14:57

grey I use nutracheck - there is a small payment but you can set nutrient and calorie targets, and it has loads of foods measured ready to use.

Maccalenny · 07/07/2019 14:58

bear I’m the same on weekend breakfasts...the weekend doesn’t feel right without!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/07/2019 08:26

Well by some stroke of luck I have indeed ended the weekend the same Weight I started it. In fact, 0.1lbs lower, so I am 10.5.4 this morning. This must mean I've had the perfect balance of lettuce and wine to achieve maintenance. Halo

This week ahead I actually want to lose some weight! My dd is away with school, so that's one of my fussy eaters gone, so I've planned a very healthy and simple menu this week, with the boys largely eating pasta and myself and Dh having various combinations of meat + salad. Easy and quick. I lost 2lbs last week (but it was largely hormonal Bloat) so this week I want actual fat loss please

It's bizarre though because despite my fluctuating weight, and small gain overall, I am looking pretty skinny at the moment and I have noticed only the very beginnings of tiny little abs emerging on my stomach- so all my hard workouts are beginning to pay off maybe?

OP posts:
lasttimeround · 08/07/2019 08:37

Ok starting round 2 this week. After holding steady for several weeks after first round a holiday has piled on the pounds. I was trying to reduce sugar over the weekend and that just resulted in bingeing so I'm up another 2 lbs. Sugar is a freaking rollercoaster for me.
Anyway. Time to start. Wishing everyone else a good week xx

GreyBasket · 08/07/2019 09:45

I am starting today.

The no wine is going to be a killer for the next two weeks, but I need to do this!!

I have downloaded the recipe book onto kindle, but I will keep things simple today. Eggs/omelette for lunch and some chicken and salad or something for dinner.
