16:8 any success?

I've been doing 16:8 Monday - Friday for 2.5 weeks now . I pretty much eat what I like between 12-8 ( not in excess and mostly healthy).

I didn't weigh myself but do feel clothes fit slightly better and feel
A little less tired.

Does anyone have any success stories at all? Would love to hear!

Hi Catty & Highland
I want to join in too. I have done 16/8 for a few weeks before lockdown - but then routine disappeared. I'd like some buddies to hold me accountable! I managed no breakfast today but drank about 5 cups of black coffee and green tea. Not sure my food has been good choices tho today.
What I found before was that no food up to lunch started to mean I craved less snacks. Lost it all when I had breakfast again. I have a big over 1 stone to lose.

Catty15 · 24/06/2020 22:29

Hi PC20,
Yes come and join us!
I don't work at the moment but when I was working I would be up at about 05.50 so couldn't face eating that early so would not have anything until my break at about 10 or 10.30 which never really bothered me as long as I had a coffee.
So that would be a good 4 hours at least from getting up to eating.
Now I'm often not getting up until about 9.30 so not too difficult waiting until 12 to eat.
I'm not going to do the 800 calorie thing though Highland as I'll not stick to it!!

PC20 · 24/06/2020 22:46

Hi Catty
I'm working tomorrow & Fri, will leave home about 7.20. if I can avoid a bowl of granola & just drink tea/ coffee until lunch. That is my aim. If I can avoid the biscuit tin then lunch will be towards 1pm - which makes my window 1pm - 7pm. Less than 16/8 but I am not aiming for 800 calories. I can't do that. Just normal lunch & dinner, miss out breakfast. The days at home are much harder. I am a bad snacker. I have not weighed for a bit. All the best

Catty15 · 24/06/2020 23:03

Good luck!!

HighlandPeach · 25/06/2020 08:22

Hi @PC20 👋 Good to have another 16:8 buddy! This morning I’m struggling to wait till 9am to eat, as I’ve been up since 5:30am with my little one and I’ve had to make his breakfast...I’ve had water and a cup of camomile tea. Only 40 mins to go and then I’ve got a small smoothie from the Fast800 recipe book. It’s peanut butter and milk, I’m so excited 😂

I can only do the low calorie approach, as I’m wfh and not seeing friends at the moment. It would be too tough to do my normal long commute and be at the office where there is always biscuits and chocolate!!

Lunch today is at 12pm and is a lovely chicken Caesar salad and dinner is at 4:30 and is fish with Mediterranean roast veg. I really am happy with the recipes so far. It’s been easy and quick to cook.

Good luck today with keeping on track both!

PC20 · 25/06/2020 10:34

Hi Highland & Catty.
Tummy rumbling now. Just made coffee & walked past the biscuitsShock
I'm working in a hospital so have to wear a mask at all times - which I think saved me! Hope you all keep going until lunch

Catty15 · 25/06/2020 19:07

Hi!
I've been ok waiting until about 1.45 before eating as I went out for a walk.
But I'm not being good with what I'm eating so will be interested to see if I lose anything, I think ill wait until next Wednesday to weigh myself as that will be a full week.

HighlandPeach · 25/06/2020 20:14

Evening both - end of day 3! I think the routine is getting a bit easier. Felt a little dizzy this morning, but much better now. I almost ate snacks unconsciously earlier when making them for my little one, but managed to stop myself before munching anything off plan lol

Catty15 · 25/06/2020 21:43

Well done Highland! I really don't think I could stick to such low calories and 16 hours of fasting so good on you!
I think I'm not going to lose much as it doesn't seem hard enough!
I've done slimming World quite a few times over the years but struggled with not eating so much bread. I would normally have 2 slices of toast for breakfast and a sandwich for lunch. As I'm now not eating breakfast I've basically halved my bread intake but otherwise not restricted myself.
Although my husband has just been out to the shop and asked if I wanted anything, normally I would have some chocolate but I said no, so maybe it is changing my intake without me really trying too hard!!

PC20 · 25/06/2020 22:31

Hi Both sorry I'm late checking in.
I managed to hold out until 1.30 for lunch & no afternoon snacks until I was cooking our dinner. Munched a bit (bread & cheese) while cooking which really was not needed. Dinner was finished by 7.15. so that is less than an 8 hour window.
Yes I have done slimming world a couple of times but so fed up of the rules and feeling restricted - always made me have a blow out!
So I'll do the same tomorrow & then I usually weigh on Sat am.
I have done a supermarket order which I will collect after work and been good about not too many naughties.
Catch you tomorrow

HighlandPeach · 26/06/2020 09:57

Morning 😊 Start of day 4 and I’m not as hungry today. I made my smoothie when I made breakfast for DH and DS and then popped it in the fridge till 9am. I’m already excited about lunch, which is the same as yesterday (chicken Caesar salad).

P.s. just weighed myself and I’m down 1kg. Happy with that. I was so miserable trying on summer clothes that don’t fit me first thing this morning! I’m wearing a maternity dress, as it’s the only clothes that fit 😩 Anyway that’s good inspiration!!

Catty15 · 26/06/2020 15:47

Hi!
1 kg in 4 days is good, I very stupidly got on the scales this morning and am exactly the same...but its only been 2 daysGrin
I'm still not sure i should be having coffee with sugar and milk during my fast time so I've bought some fruit tea to try instead tomorrow.

ScarletPower · 26/06/2020 17:01

Hi all

Just want to introduce myself.

I was on a weight-loss surgery thread as I have come to the conclusion after 23 years of dieting in which time I've gained an extra 7 stone that WLS is the only answer. I don't want WLS but if I don't I will just carry on putting half a stone on each year. I've already got a fatty liver, non-painful gallstones and had my first very high blood pressure reading. The only thing that has stopped me booking a consultation is the cost, I'd have to fund it myself so I want to get my ducks in a row and pay off existing debt first.

Someone on the thread I mentioned said "have you heard of insulin resistance? Read The Obesity Code before you do anything drastic" so I thought it was worth a try and bloody hell, talk about the penny dropping!!!!

So I'm doing 16:8 (today is day 3) and I have to say I have not been hungry at all. I'm still very new and enthusiastic at the moment so have been managed 2 x 18 hour fasts but I'm not sure how long I will stay this motivated for.

I genuinely haven't been ravenously hungry like I have on other diets though although it is only day 3.

Good luck

Catty15 · 26/06/2020 17:22

Hi scarlet power and welcome Grin
I sort of decided to start the 16 8 fasting with no prior knowledge or research about it at all, i just saw another post about it and decided to start!
I probably ought to read up about it as like you, I don't find it difficult at all so far( which obviously isn't very long!)
So good luck and let us know how you're doing xx

PC20 · 26/06/2020 19:03

Welcome Scarlet Power & hi Catty & Highland
Yay we are all about 3-4 days in. I love the support from this thread.
I have lurked on this thread for about 6 months & looked at lots of stuff online about insulin resistance. It does make sense.
I have also looked at 5:2 & tried a week or so (2 years ago) but found that too hard & difficult to fit in with family lifestyle.
I tried 16:8 a few weeks before lockdown & it worked. I think I lost 3lb a week. ....but lockdown eating & baking....and passing the fridge!Hmm
Today I had nothing to eat until lunch about 1pm & missed coffee mid morning cos I was busy. I'm not snacking at work (avoiding things other people may have touched + in the hospital we wear masks all the time)
I went back to pre- lockdown plans & menu planned for 2 weeks then shopped to fit the menus. Picked up a 'click & collect' order after work...then petrol - woe I bought chocolate~100g ~500 cal☹️. Come in & put dinner on & all shopping away. My window should end about 7.45.
I will find being at home harder esp with DS not in school. Thanks for helping me to stay strong & accountable.
All the best for family weekends.

Catty15 · 26/06/2020 20:11

Hi all,
Can I ask if you are restricting what you eat during your eating window? Or just eating fairly normally?
I've had sausage and chips from the chippy tonight!
I'm thinking I probably need to cut down a bit on my unhealthy stuff!
Have a good weekend everyone Smile

PC20 · 26/06/2020 20:38

I don't know if there is a right way.
I have had homemade soup (v thick) for lunch last 2 days + a piece of fruit. Then normal dinner & not tiny portions (yesterday chicken curry & rice, today breaded fish, homemade chips the slimming world way & veg). If I had not had all that choc then I think ~ 1200-1400 calories if I was counting (but I'm not)
I'm sure the science is a combination of of missing a meal reduces the calories & fasting for at least 16 hours means you are in fat burning mode before first food of the day...and somewhere there (forgotten the science now) the insulin overload stops the sugar spikes.
Scarlett - can you point us to the best articles to read?
Thanks

PC20 · 26/06/2020 20:40

...maybe that is stopping the sugar spikes reduces the insulin load?

ScarletPower · 26/06/2020 20:57

PC20 - It was "The Obesity Code" by Dr Jason Fung which finally made everything clear as day.

This made me see the sense in fasting (rather than eating three meals a day and snacking). I'm no scientist but the fasting period is what is important as if you're not eating, you're not creating insulin which gives everything a break.

I've also read Michael Moseley's books about the 5:2 diet and the Fast 800 (which I'm actually considering doing for the recommended 8 weeks) but I'm not sure if I'm brave enough - I'm too scared of being hungry and jeopardising it.

Catty15 · 26/06/2020 21:38

Yes, I thought about the 5 2 diet but don't know if I would be able to stick to it for long.
I think considering what you said about the insulin, I need to stop having the coffee in the morning when I get up. That's going to be really hard but ill try my new fruit tea tomorrow and see how it goes, i think I crave coffee more than food!!

HighlandPeach · 26/06/2020 22:55

Welcome @ScarletPower - I’ve just finished day 4 of Fast800 and it’s amazing. I look forward to the meals on plan, but I’m generally not hungry. Did a supermarket shop earlier and I didn’t pick up any of the usual treat stuff. I’ve got 3.5 stone it baby weight to lose, so I need to kick start something drastic, unlike others who have a lot less to lose ☺️

HighlandPeach · 26/06/2020 22:56

Totally going to dream about your chips, Catty and PC!! Yum

PC20 · 27/06/2020 08:12

Morning all!
This is day 4 for me.
Just weighed myself - going to do that each Saturday. Although I did weigh myself in the week so I think I have lost 1ib.
Now I have to negotiate 5 days at home before I'm at work again. I have planned the meals but not counting calories. They are normal family meals - most of the things I cook are home cooked not processed. Today will be a brunch ~ 11.15 because my son has choir (on Zoom) at noon and then veg curry for dinner about 6pm. I finished eating last night at 7.15 so my fasting window will be the bare 16 hours today.
I'm feeling good atm and not starving hungry. Will have a pot of green or peppermint tea & then follow by black coffee. I will have to keep busy and away from the fridge.
Scarlett - thanks for the info about The Obesity Code. I will look at it to understand more - hope your days are going well.
Highland - my chips are an adaptation of something I picked up at slimming world. I cut potatoes into small cubes, spray a roasting tin with one cal frylight. Toss the pots in this, bit of salt & dried herbs (or cayenne) and cook in the oven at 200° . Take about 20- 30 mins to cook - the same time as oven cooking some salmon & doing veg. I prob cool this about once a week.
Catty - what I have read about the fasting period includes anything drunk/ eaten in that time should not have more than 30 cal - otherwise the fasting state is lost. Che k your coffee??
All the best everyone have a good day

Catty15 · 27/06/2020 10:37

Good morning all!
As usual I've had an awful nights sleep and am up but still not dressed so I'm not too bothered about eating for a while.
I'm currently drinking my fruit tea, its quite nice but not coffee Sad but I totally get what you're saying PC20 about it breaking the fast so I will persevere!
I hope everyone else is feeling good and positive for a good weekend! Xx

floraflo · 27/06/2020 10:37

Hi everyone- I'm new to 16:8 too. Have been doing it for three weeks now. The first two I hardly lost anything but after reading this post below which someone added on a different threat it's been a game changer and this week I've lost 4lb and an inch off my thighs and waist (hooray!)

I'd been sticking to the fasting hours but drinking fruit tea, lemon and mint in hot water which must have been spiking my insulin. This week I've only been drinking black coffee and water and I'm finally seeing the scales move. To be honest I'd have stuck with 16:8 anyway as it's sustainable for me, I feel so much better in myself and it has lots of other health benefits too.
Do yourselves a favour and read this article and the other links with in it. It's so interesting and was a game changer for me.
Good luck everyone.
