Bear, my Aldi don't sell that edamame spaghetti. I asked.Angry

tobee · 27/01/2018 13:00

Hello. I don't know if you remember me but I would like need to come back!

I've been 5:2 ing for some weeks to maintain with Christmas week off but Its not really enough. I need to get rid of the Christmas 3/4 pounds for starters!

Skimming through this thread I see endmame pasta which looks veeerrrrrry interesting.

I've missed you lot! Grin

veryveryquietly · 27/01/2018 13:27

Another good recipe, this one from Olive magazine, Asian hot and sour soup. I've been making it for one (halving it) with one small fillet of river cobbler aka catfish, or similar white fish, which is a lot less than the 200 gr of fish they call for for per serving. It's also great with prawns, though that's not cheap; I think you could safely get away w/ 100 gr of prawns per person. Sometimes I saute a half courgette, chopped, in a bit of olive oil first and then add everything, which adds more veg to make up for cutting down on the fish.

APlaceAtTheBSDTable · 27/01/2018 14:05

Hello tobee Good to see you again!
Well, I'm averaging 1000 cals per day this week but have lost 2lbs. Honestly, just when I think I understand this WOE, it throws me a curve ball.
DS (8) is making lunch. Those of you who have been here for a while may remember that he tends to teeny tiny cordon bleu portion sizes so I think it's safe to say lunch will be very BSD-friendly and I will still be starving afterwards Grin

veryveryquietly · 27/01/2018 16:18

Urgh, I screwed up. I made lentil soup for a late, late lunch and it was so good and I was so hungry I had two servings. I still have calories aplenty for a light dinner, but since I had fruit this morning I've already gone over today's carbs. (at least it was mostly sort of somewhat fibre carbs) And I feel a bit bloated from the 2 servings of soup thing.

Oh well. Time to figure out what I can make that is v low carb. but first I shall recline on the sofa, bloatedly. Bleurgh.

winkywinkybumbum · 27/01/2018 17:01

DAMN IT! I never win anything. Ever. Except today....99p Papa John's medium pizza. Obviously it would be rude not to take them up on it right?!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/01/2018 17:01

Hi Tobee welcome back!

I messed up too very- I had avocado, bacon and cheese for breakfast, which was delicious, then also had lunch! Currently with my dinner added, I’m already on 1000 cals, and in Sainsbury’s I bought a bag of pork scratchings as a carb free treat for tonight! So today is not a good BSD day.

Oh well.

And place , I am so impressed jealous that your Ds cooks!! I can barely persuade dd to make me a cup of tea and she’s 14! He is very well trained!

APlaceAtTheBSDTable · 27/01/2018 18:11

bear he does cook sometimes* but today was more preparing than cooking tbh. It was tuna salad with rocket, tomato and red pepper. He made a dressing with fresh oranges. Then he made a fruit salad dessert for him and DH.
It always looks beautiful but it was approx 30g of tuna each. Hmm I ended up making an avocado and cheese salad later ... then eating crisps. I'm probably going to be closer to 1500 by the end of the day.

*He can make the chicken and red pepper curry if we help with the cooker Grin

veryveryquietly · 27/01/2018 18:17

Eh, bear, tomorrow is another day. Weekends need to be a bit more flexible!

winky am super jealous, as gooey Papa Johns was/is a fave of mine. can you feed most of it to DP, DCs? Or declare it a farewell for 8 wks treat?

londonista · 27/01/2018 19:36

Referred to this thread from the wedding dress thread.

I have just bought the book. Grocery shopping tomorrow in readiness.

From Monday for 56 days I'll be doing the 800 cal plan.

Currently 14 stone 12. Oh the shame.
I must be prediabetic, all these rolls of chub.

Going on hols at Easter with a bunch of skinny fashion types. Aiming to lose at least 15 pounds.

Tell me, how bad is the first week??!

Londonista, welcome! Honestly, the first week is not too bad. Plan your meals carefully (are you doing the book plan or your own foods?)- I like to remind myself each morning what the menu is. It is much easier if you properly do it, rather than ‘sort of’ do it, if that makes sense. The portions are small and you might get a touch of carb flu, but just check in on here and we’ll all support you through it!

I’ve just been sat in ds’s room doing the bedtime routine, and felt my mind wandering to chocolate, bread, biscuits. I was going to come downstairs and root around the cupboards - but instead, I went and tried on my dress to wear to my nephew’s christening tomorrow and reminded myself that when I bought it a week ago it was a lot tighter than it is now!

I’ve definitely gone over tonight, and my average calories this week have been about 1100 a day once I factor in tomorrow, so that’s not exactly great BSD behaviour! I’m really determined to get a few 800 days in next week, but I always say that don’t I???!!!

OP posts:
londonista · 27/01/2018 20:12

I will probably just try to have same breakfast on weekdays and have a BSD approved "fry-up" on weekends.

Don't know what I'll do about other meals, but will definitely have to pre-plan. Chicken breasts. Courgetti etc.
I'm just so addicted to sugar. It's going to be very hard with the kids about. Will just have to plan to be not starving when I'm feeding them, otherwise I think I'll be standing over the bin guiltily eating their leftovers... 😔

londonista · 27/01/2018 20:13

I don't really drink, so that's something!

ICJump · 27/01/2018 20:31

Londonista I’ve found lots of the BSD recipes have become family favourites. So that can help with the not eating left overs.

So had a think last night and I’m going to shake in the morning but I’ve got almond milk for lower calories and am using a powered I quite like which I’ve got half a tub to use up.

I think I’ll do either salad or baked beans for lunch during the week.

This should give me a fair bit to play with for dinner.

I’m also going to try the chickpea flat breads in the recipe book as I’m misding “fun”cooking. I’ll have those tonight with the fish cakes which are very low too.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/01/2018 20:34

How does your day work out londonista? I am a sahm so my day tends to be a shake at 10/11 ish, olives or soup or cheese at 4pm then dinner with the dc at about 5.30. We all eat the same food most days (5 out of 7) and that really helps with regards to picking at leftovers! Having things to help with your danger zone times is really useful. I always have cherry tomatoes in the fridge and if I’m feeling like nibbling I go and grab a few of those. I also drink a lot of water when I remember.

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/01/2018 20:38

ICJump I am really enjoying my shakes now I’ve got used to them. I use almond milk, frozen raspberries, peanut butter (or sometimes avocado if I’ve got some very ripe ones) and I bought something called maca powder which is very high in fibre. It took a while to get used to them, but I do find when I have real food for breakfast I want to eat more all day. The liquid breakfast seems to keep me going for longer.

OP posts:
londonista · 27/01/2018 20:43

What's the deal with artificial sweetener - is that on the banned list?

Think I will also be in the shake for breakfast club as well. I work in an office 3 days a week. Tbh those days are easier, it's being at home amongst the bourbons and hula hoops that's filling me with fear!
Although I do agree we could all do with eating fewer carbs.

Haven't ever tried cauli rice yet.... can you really fool yourself that it's rice Confused

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/01/2018 21:02

Technically London it is no sweetener, but I must confess I have 1 in each coffee. I cut down from 2, but haven’t been able to ditch the other one.....

Lots of people love cauli rice but I hate it. I’d much prefer just whole cauliflower on the side of a meal.

OP posts:
londonista · 27/01/2018 21:13

Could probably do with weaning myself of the sweetener as well tbh. Gradually!

Hi Lalaleah welcome

I've found 850 calories to be infinitely more doable in terms of meal planning and such, and I think it's drastic enough to do what's needed, esp if you're keeping low-ish carbs and it sounds like you have the physical activity to balance it out. Weirdly, that extra 50 (which covers some almonds, or a bit of dark chocolate, etc) is just enough that I can have snacks and don't feel unsatisfied.

I skip breakfast most days, and have a small snack (some almonds, some cheese, or some berries with yogurt) at 11, then lunch at 12 or 12:30. (But definitely coffee from waking up, occasionally with almond milk.)

Again weirdly, I find that I actually feel better if I skip breakfast - a few hunger pangs at first but then I'm fine, esp if I drink water while I have my coffee. The days when I have breakfast (such as yesterday, 935 cals and 72 gr carbs) often turn out to be the ones where things go awry.

Ugh, still bloaty and disturbed tummy from yesterday's lentil/carb fest. Bought the official BSD cookbook and a 15-min BSD cookbook for Kindle the other day and have highlighted a bunch more recipes to try.

APlaceAtTheBSDTable · 28/01/2018 09:34

Welcome lala ! Have you read the book? The focus is on low calorie and low carb.
It's interesting you mentioned 5:2. Quite a few of us here found that 5:2 didn't work for us but BSD has. bear's opening post is great for what to avoid. It sounds as daunting at first but planning makes it much more achievable. Flowers

veryveryquietly · 28/01/2018 09:38

OK, so I gotta say, one thing I hate about all this is that I feel like some sort of compulsive accountant, tracking all food intake in My Fitness Pal and calculating for meal planning. I know it'll get easier when I have more standard meals down and don't have to run the numbers as much, but I'm still hating this feeling that I have to log food the minute I eat it.

Logging the food really does help, but I hate how it feels.
