Oh and I meant to ask has anyone signed up to the paid BSD 12 week thing?

Is it worth it?

I’m thinkinh about but worry the meal plan won’t suit my family and I’ll just feel stressed about that

Oblomov18 · 14/02/2018 05:00

I too did well, till I got home.
Then had sausages and Home made chips, sticky toffee pudding, 3 gin and tonics, and a packet of sharing crisps, with Dh, whilst we watched the football.
1509
This is not going well.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/02/2018 10:46

ICJump I think people in the past have done the 12 weeks programme- the additional 4 weeks are a sort of initiation period where you gradually phase out sugar/carbs though, which you have already done. I can see how it could be motivating to have a regular weigh in with people all at the same stage as you though, it depends how expensive it is?

Today is beginning Week 6, and I am down 27 lbs since the beginning of Week 2. Had really hoped to make it an even 2 stone, but I'm happy with things so far. Down a size in trousers and underwear from early January, and another hook inwards on bras.

Only (!!!!) 73 more lbs to go... delighted with the start though. (Although hoping to avoid more chocolate incidents like last night's.)

I'm definitely going to celebrate the end of 8 weeks with a bit of red wine or prosecco though, before launching into another cycle. I do miss both, a lot. Luckily I'm old enough that none of my work colleagues or friends think my drinking sparkling water at the pub = evidence of pregnancy!

bridgetreilly · 14/02/2018 11:51

Very, you are doing brilliantly!

Oblomov, maybe you need to take a break and start again in a couple of weeks when things might be calmer at home? It's impossible to keep going when you've got those kinds of meals waiting for you every evening. Your blood sugars won't be getting the carb break they need for your body to start processing differently. I know it must be incredibly frustrating.

veryveryquietly · 14/02/2018 11:58

Agree w/ bridget, oblomov. Don't beat yourself up, and let things stabilise and calm a little bit - the combo of rowing w/ DH, two food-centric holidays (Pancake Day and Val Day), and half-term is really a huge challenge. Be kind to yourself!

(And thanks bridget - I'm really happy. It's early days given how far I have to go, but at least I've started moving towards the changes I needed to make. And thanks all of you for your patience with my questions and moaning and your support, has been absolutely amazing.)

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/02/2018 18:14

Oh my. My dinner was so delicious, I could eat it all again! (Before the carb police come after me, these are Oomi noodles, made with fish protein apparently!)

So first day done and I have done week 6 of couch to 5k so ran for 2x10 mins.

Brunch was nuts and greek yoghurt -350 cals.
Late lunch was a protein shake -100 cals
Dinner was a beef hache steak with steamed broccoli, yum about 350 cals ish.

I did feel hungry and fed up but survived, I know tomorrow will be tougher but only 41 days until lent 😱 and your success stories are spurring me on.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/02/2018 20:25

Sounds good user5trillion. Do you use a branded protein shake? Which one do you use? I struggle to make my own under 200 calories so I have been contemplating buying one.

I’ve looked back through my week and it’s been pretty disastrous really, even as far back as last Wednesday. Today my food’s been mostly ok, (although I did have a Stilton and walnut scone!) but there’s just been far too much of it! That’s been the general theme of the last week. I’m too scared to get on the scales and see the damage.

I think it’s linked to what we were saying about insulin resistance. I’m very tired and have a cough and cold, so perhaps that’s why I just can’t seem to stop myself grazing. Coupled with having social events beyond my control, and not really feeling up to running , my willpower has left me this week.

Tomorrow: I need to get a couple of good days under my belt before Saturday, as I’m out again! So, shake for brunch, dinner of fish pie and lots of veg. Lots of water, no snacks, try to run 30 minutes. And the same again on Friday. As it’s half term next week I really could do with getting my head back in the game, as it will be infinitely more difficult with the dc off school as well!

Bear I've been reading a lot about IR since you mentioned it.
I think I definitely am, even though no noticeable symptoms before I started the diet. I need to kick start my fat burning - my husband runs a lot, and has suggested Couch to 5k, he thinks some cardio might be good for getting things moving.

Your dinner looked great by the way! Yummo!

MeDented · 14/02/2018 21:44

I'm only on day 3 of this. Following it pretty strictly, I didn't weigh myself yesterday as I thought it was a bit daft even though the book tells me to take measurements every day, but I stood on the scales this morning and I've put on 2lbs!, gutted! This is so hard, I am being so good, no biscuits, I even refused pancakes yesterday. Today I made a smoothie for breakfast, 10 almonds for snack, chicken broth for lunch and chicken skewers on spinach & kale for tea. That's it!!!

User5trillion · 15/02/2018 07:24

BEAR83 I bought some low carb protein powder from muscle meats. Its 1.8g carbs and 99 cals, I mix with water. Its a bit grim but does the job. I mix it with coffee granules and ice and knock it back like tequilla!

Oblomov18 · 15/02/2018 08:07

Thank you Bridget and VeryVery. Maybe you are right. Ponders......

Bear, your stir fry had me almost dribbling!!

My dinner last night, salad: the crust less quiche was 369, so Came in at a total of 712. Not good. Total for the day 1239.

And that's with only eating youghurt and blueberries, then roasted peppers with goats cheese.

APlaceAtTheBSDTable · 15/02/2018 09:41

Loving the food pics.
I'm writing this week off. The combination of feeling achey, being constantly cold and having DC off school is just a disaster tbh.

ElanorGamgee · 15/02/2018 13:49

So am I APlace, completely written off, too many lunches and meet ups in the diary and it is so cold. We spent the day in town in the sleet yesterday and when we got home cold and wet our house was cold as well. Thankfully next week is another week.

MeDented - how frustrating for you. I bet if you give it a few more days you will see a difference.

User5trillion · 15/02/2018 15:22

I hate today. I am hungry and snappy, its the first day of totm.

I just want to eat and mentally I am preparing my excuses. I won't however cheat as I always do that and that's why I never lose any sodding weight. Grrr.

Tomorrow will be easier, I hope.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/02/2018 18:33

No offence user5 but that shake doesn’t sound very nice! Mine are quite a few more calories but at least they are quite nice! It’s a shame you feel rubbish today but it really does get easier and it gets easier, faster, if you stick with it. Hot drinks can help I find, as can a hot bath.

Hope you’re ok place and elanor? Sometimes it is better to just write it off and start afresh on Monday!
Oblomov, your salad looks nice- what are those little semi circle things round the edge??

Ok day for me, although I bet my calories are a bit over. Fed up of cold weather, and feeling rough, Ds and I Have had a very lazy day watching movies and having lots of snuggles. Had a shake for lunch, and have just had a sort of fish in cream sauce concoction made with some chilli mackerel, cod and salmon that I found in the freezer, poached in cream and topped with cheese. It was very tasty! Will need to work out the damage later!

I have eaten now so feeling a bit better. Green salad with toms, cucumber and peppers. Served with half a chicken breast covered in tomato sauce and a sprinkle of cheese. No the shake isnt amazing but it does the job. Contemplating going out for a walk. Will probably have an early night. Have made soup for tomorrow. Good luck everyone

AromaticSpices · 16/02/2018 12:07

Hi everyone. Can I join? I'm buying the book today, plan on reading over the weekend then starting in earnest on Monday.

I've been doing the 16:8 fasting thing which I enjoyed and found I could stick to but I wasn't losing much weight. I am happy not eating until lunchtime which should help on the old calorie count.

I work full time and husband does majority of the cooking so will need to guide him on some new recipes. We generally eat healthily at dinnertime - although usually fairly carby (too much so for this WOE), like lots of pasta, things with rice, cottage pie etc, but I suffer with the "need" to snack (Hmm) late afternoon or after dinner, the 16:8 has helped curb this but I still have about 2 stone to lose so not quite got a handle on it yet.

veryveryquietly · 16/02/2018 13:27

Hi Aromatic welcome!

londonista, how did your half-term treat w/ DS go? They're opening a Five Guys near my office and I am not wanting the temptation nearby!

Made a lovely salad last night with grilled chicken and roast veg to bring to work, and managed to forget it. So had to get a not-lovely and overpriced salad from our work cafe, with grilled halloumi (yay!) that turned out to be pre-grilled and exceptionally rubbery (boo!). I love halloumi, but this was bad. Plus the person making the salads kept trying to get me to take some potato salad along with my leaves and cucumber and such. Come on, lady, potatoes are tempting enough without you pointing out that I can get up to 5 different items on my salad. Got extra leaves, cucumber and olives, and stomped upstairs to my office to eat it far from the land of biscuits and chocolates and 20 different kinds of institutional overcooked pasta stodge. And am going to have some nice cheese as soon as I get home as a treat to make up for lunch fail.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/02/2018 14:47

Hi aromatic, welcome!
London I would have been stompy too. It’s horrible when people waft things under your nose that you don’t want to want! Well done for resisting and enjoy your cheese!

Something strange is occurring- despite not having the best week calorie wise, I appear to be developing something of a waist.....I wish I’d taken my measurements now (actually, perhaps I did, I forget- but I can’t remember where they are written down!) but I’m standing here in my running Lycra and if you ignore the fact my stomach looks like a war zone (3 massive babies!) I actually can see some weightloss. So all you new starters if you haven’t already, I insist that you take your measurements!!

AromaticSpices · 16/02/2018 16:05

Will do tonight! Thanks thenewaveragebear

User5trillion · 16/02/2018 17:15

Thanks for the reminder, will take my measurements this evening. I think carb flu is peaking, I have a banging headache and am knackered.
Today I had my protein shake, my yoghurt and granola and chicken and bacon soup. Had to eat my dinner at 5pm as I was so hungry. Off to bed as soon as the kids settle down!

ElanorGamgee · 16/02/2018 17:57

I must do that bear before I start again with a vengeance on Monday. I have just done an online shop full of lots of BSD friendly food for me, arriving tomorrow evening but we are out again on Sunday for a big family lunch.

8 weeks isn't very long at all but it is hard when you are socialising, must do better!

londonista · 16/02/2018 18:03

Very the light halloumi is slightly higher in protein I noticed, so might be a good swap?

Day out with my son was good. I convinced him to go to Yo Sushi instead so managed to be quite virtuous. We also went to M&M world though and he bought a big bag of sweets to eat in the cinema. The chocolatey smell was almost too much.

I'm at my posh foodie weekend away, I've not eaten all day and just had a 90 cal shake so I don't attack the menu when I go down to dinner in an hour. They are famed for their breakfasts here so I'm just going to go for it, but not have the toast and croissants, I won't actually feel like I'm missing out.

How is everyone's weekends panning out?
