Here's thread seven for the Blood Sugar Diet followers.

It's 5 weeks and 5 days until school breaks up (may vary by region!) so let's get those bodies lean for Summer!

Continuing thread for Blood Sugar Dieters:
Phase 1 lasts 2 - 8 weeks and involves restricting calories to 800 a day. Eating healthy fats is encouraged as is limiting carby foods (no specific guideline on this but some people aim for under 50g), small amounts of complex carbs are allowed but should be balanced ideally with green veg, protein and fat to lower the glycemic load and reduce the effect on blood sugar.

Hello Alem - I have my carbs set on MPF to 25% carbs, 40% fat and 35% protein which works out at 50g of carbs if you have it set to 800 cals (obviously :o )

I have smashed the stone barrier! In terms of whooshes, I'm down just over 4lbs since Monday :) And it's week 4 too!

I am now back at the weight I was in my late 30s and my lowest weight since logging anything on MFP. I basically have been losing and regaining the same stone for the last 2 years.

But no longer! Today I'm going to carry on with my downward trajectory, yes I am!

alem · 07/07/2017 07:54

Well done JigglyTuff. I am similar, have been playing with the same stone for many years. I hope to follow you!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/07/2017 08:20

Charlie I think, although may be wrong, that that occurs because the body holds maybe a litre of water to help digest carbs, it aids the glucagon/glucose response (somehow!). So...... You eat a low carb diet and lose a few pounds, as the water flushes you out; then those empty fat cells are very prone to fill with water, and this can result in a small regain. If you ate a high carb meal now, you'd use that water to digest it- resulting in what appears to be a whoosh. But, and this is a big but- the impact of eating that high carb meal would be greater than just calories in/calories out. You'd screw up your insulin control, you'd crave further carbs, etc etc. Additionally, that whoosh effect would be very temporary.

The reading I have done recently is focussing a lot on fat cells. I don't fully 'get' it yet, but I'm learning so much. Particularly as I have been a lifelong yoyo dieter and it seems that the fat cells begin to behave differently to a thin person's after years of yoyoing. I've never experienced a whoosh really, although in the early days I have had several pounds lost over a few days, but I'm very interested in the science of the fat cells and how it can cause these bloats/ water loss gains and losses (which is probably similar to a whoosh). I think the aim of this very low calorie diet over 8 weeks is to return those fat cells back to their original state so they behave as the should.

Dammit, there's enough bad behaviour in this house as it is without having to discipline my own fat cells!!

Bit more awake today, still on heavy duty painkillers so making the most of enforced rest by snoozing on sofa/watching wimbledon.

Saw this whoosh diagram which is a good visualisation of what is happening within us.

Keeping my fingers crossed that my end of week 6 weigh in tomorrow is a good one. I've not been eating much, so definitely under 800cals and on plan but haven't moved much this week.

Yesterday ended up going to hell in a handcart. A brad-shaped handcart. By the time I got home after delays and things it was late, I was starving and there was very little available that didn't involve cooking.

So I had a peanut butter sandwich.

OTOH, I haven't eaten today yet and I'm ony now hungry so hopefully over the weekend I can redress the balance.

I had lost another 2 1/4bs by Wednesday morning, that has come back but it's a temporary blip and WI isn't till monday...

Either way, it's downwards, my WoL isn't ended because of 2 bad days.

Flightywoman · 07/07/2017 13:27

Bread. Not brad. My husband might have something to say if Brad was involved...

PhyllisWig · 07/07/2017 17:48

Have you considered a brad and peanut butter sandwich? I know I have

Flightywoman · 07/07/2017 18:39

CharlieSierra · 07/07/2017 19:56

Thanks, I'm going to wait for my whoosh and stay off the carbs. We are having friends over tomorrow night so maybe I'll have a glass of wine or a G&T (maybe not though as I'm a right control freak and when I'm on it I never cheat). I'm going to make the red Thai curry from the BSD cookbook which is delish. They can all have coconut rice and extra bits and I'll stay on plan.

KTD27 · 07/07/2017 20:27

Hi all
Haven't checked in for a while. Week 4 today. Half way through. Currently down 13lb with a MASSIVE holiday shaped derailment last week. Have been super good since Monday when I got to my folks house where I'll be staying for a fortnight. My parents aren't also doing the BSD so much easier to stay on the straight and narrow with them.
Good news is that I've lost the 4lb I put on over the holiday and now I hope to kick off the weight loss for good again.
Discoveries this week have been 'fake pho' using the book as inspiration. It's possibly too high in sodium but I LOVE pho and this is surprisingly good for about 50 cals.
Had fishcakes from the book tonight with a huge spinach salad and butternut squash. Delicious!
And NSV Today too - bought a dress for a friends wedding and whilst trying things on (though my c section pouch is definitely there) I was firmly in a size 14 and no longer pushing into a 16.

Nomoocluck · 07/07/2017 20:41

Feeling so demotivated. After a whole week of no loss (week 4) I started week five with a new resolve to exercise more. Managed to lose half a pound then ended up having an utterly shit day yesterday with a tight deadline and 4 hours sleep. Ended up having carbs and caffeine to get through the day and meet the deadline, ate about 1500 cals but chocolate included. And today I've gained 2 lb!!!

What is wrong with my body? Oh and a lovely relative has dropped by with tons of homemade baked goods just taunting me.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/07/2017 20:54

Noomoo we've all been there. Deep breaths.....
Today is done, write it off. Begin tomorrow with that motivated, go get em tiger attitude, drink lots of water, plan your food and that 2lb will come off. Imagine kindly relatives home baked goodies laid on your sunbathing body while on the beach- because that's where they'll end up!

I suffer with demotivating thoughts so much and I am my own worst enemy. I sabotage, and trust me it's not worth it! Draw a line in the sand and start again tomorrow! Flowers

NoMoo, that 2lb will go tomorrow, it's just a bit of bloat/glycogen. It may be a good thing - bit of messing to keep the body on its toes. I have certainly found that before.

Maybe look for nsv? Have you measured, how is your skin looking? Energy levels?

Also are you due on? You are pretty much exactly the same stage as me and I've only lost 1/2 lb so far this week but that's period.

Nomoocluck · 07/07/2017 21:18

Thank you ladies. I feel very bloated after yesterday's carb binge actually, had been used to feeling 'leaner' since going on the BSD.
Energy levels currently pants thanks to no sleep and on the pill so don't get the hormonal swings (much). But it helps to have friends holding your hands at times like these.

I've moved all the baked goods to the sideboard (there are loads!) so they don't tempt me when I go into the kitchen and just had half a slice of cheddar when the munchies hit earlier. Will start planning all my meals this weekend next - lunch tomorrow is at a supermarket cafe as meeting family there, will stick to an omellete I think.

Weekends are terrible for me usually as I'm at home and around snacks too much - might try checking this thread every time I feel tempted by cakes and tarts!

Perdyboo · 08/07/2017 00:42

Home after dinner with hubby, haven't calorie counted but did avoid bread, spuds, crackers etc. Had salmon to start, seabass with fennel and then cheeseboard, but I only ate the cheese, sundried tomatoes and grapes. Hubby had to drink all the wine and eat the cheese crackers, what a hero... whatever the scales say tomorrow morning, I went out tonight in a dress a wee bit big for me that I couldn't get past my head and shoulders at Easter. Nsv!!!
Wow to all the weightlosses and cheers round for sharing your story. X

khajiit13 · 08/07/2017 00:52

Joining. 🙋 can I be super lazy and ask for some guidelines?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/07/2017 06:34

Kha if you read the opening posts on this thread then there are some very (very) basics! The book is this one
http://theroybooks.com/The-8-Week-Blood-Sugar-Diet-Lose-weight-fast-and-reprogramme-your-body-eBookpp_30.html (our local tesco always have it on their 2 for £7 offer)

Right- it's nearing the end of week 5 for me, in fact 3 weeks today I will be waking up on holiday. I've not had a terrible week, although haven't counted calories and just have been eating the right foods. I'm flitting about between about 11.13 and 11.10, making a total loss of about 8lb (any avid followers will recall this is about the same as last week !) so basically have maintained/gained/lost now for 2+ weeks, although I am st the low end of this range today. Quite worryingly I still haven't come on which means I'm feeling very bloated and premenstrual now. Let's (please) not consider the other possible outcome to this scenario right now.

Have school mum's social tonight, which will be food/wine based, plus option of attending family carnival in a neighbouring town today. I think I'm going to skip the carnival, not just for diet control reasons!

Going to menu plan and calorie count for the week ahead, and hopefully find 20 minutes to dust off the old shred dvd as I did promise myself I would do some exercise and haven't yet! Still chance to lose a good few pounds before I go away, so need to get down to business!

Put me down for a Brad and Peanut Butter sandwich aswell. Wink

Perdyboo · 08/07/2017 08:01

Count me in!!

alem · 08/07/2017 08:18

Just about to get up and start day 3. I havn't had the time to menu plan, or shop for useful spices etc. I'm thinking I'm ok for a little longer, just going meal by meal. I'm still on the high from deciding to start this, and feeling so much better in myself, no longer in the "carb fog".

Flightywoman · 08/07/2017 09:19

Alem, I almost never menu plan, and when I do it doesn't stay as planned! I do, however, have a forensic memory for the contents of my freezer, fridge and cupboards and a copy of the school lunch menu!

I've had avocado toast for breakfast which should keep me going for hours. I'm singing with my choir this afternoon and have rehearsals from 10.30 so the opportunity for picking will be limited but I'll need to get lunch/something to keep me going while I'm out.

WI on Monday, I should be ok by then!

Perdyboo · 08/07/2017 10:54

Down 1.5lbs this week, which am happy with given the cheeseboard last night. Just been to Bootcamp, second time easier than the first!! Still got a silly red face, but that's good yeah??
Bootcamp lady coaching crowd weight fluctuates, inches never lie so am happy having read the whoosh diagram (thanks) - drinking lots of water this week. Off to London again today so planning to pick up protein pots and salad from Aldi again. Happy Saturday all Smile

Perdyboo · 08/07/2017 10:55

Ps I love the sound of avocado toast but am yet to master the art of getting enough green soft enough to mush!!

Flibbertyjibbit · 08/07/2017 13:01

End of week 6, stayed the same this week. I am happy with that, having stuck to plan it would have been nice to lose but better than gaining.

Can't quite believe a fortnight today I will have made it 8 weeks!

tobee · 08/07/2017 15:03

Flighty what toast did you use?
