Anyone doing it and can give tips please? I know it's where you only eat in an 8 hour window but wondered if there's anything else I should know?

Grrr no mince so chicken and spinach madras instead!

Nomojo2016 · 19/05/2017 11:36

Ritamills great idea to have a day off! I too love the science behind fasting and am hooked on Jason Fung too - his books are amazing - I couldn't put "The Obesity Code" down last night and was just wide eyed at what I was reading...

Iknow thanks for the welcome Smile. If you are eating veg & salad, then you are eating some carbs, which is fine! I sometimes even have the odd oatcake or a couple of spoonfuls of pasta. But the refined white carbs, we just don't need. They are like eating table sugar.

Shamoffour have you tried bulletproof coffee? I have a tablespoon of butter blended in a nutribullet with coffee when I'm fasting - it's like a creamy latte - yum! If you are doing LC/HF this is totally fine - so is unsweetened almond milk.

I've realised that I can only stick to this if I drink loads of water. If I don't have a pint of water before the school run, the whole day is a washout. Unfortunately, I really dislike drinking water. It's not so bad once I get started, but I find the first glass a real struggle. Needless to say, I haven't stuck to it for the last two days, and I probably can't over the weekend.

Sad

RitaMills · 19/05/2017 11:50

Nomojo2016 I'm definitely going to order this book, I was hooked on his videos yesterday after seeing you mention him, I even had it connected to the Bluetooth and was listening to him as I was driving, love the way he doesn't bamboozle you with medical jargon, he explaines everything thouroughly and in an easy to grasp way (which I need Confused).

BlaWearie I manage my hunger pangs with green tea, very effective if you like it. Why not try hot water and lemon if you can't have tea or coffee, I always feel something hot is a little more satisfying at keeping hunger at bay. I know it's hard but after the initial few days it does get easier to manage, especially when you are also seeing results.

I'm currently just trying to find out If miso, Bovril or Marmite mixed with boiled water is ok to have during fasting hours, the calories are really low so I don't think the body would process it as food, does anyone know?

BlaWearie · 19/05/2017 13:45

Rita I need to drink 3 or 4 pints of water before lunchtime, which I don't think is really possible with hot drinks. I might try green tea as well though, thanks.

RitaMills · 19/05/2017 14:16

Can you juggle your eating window around a bit, so if you don't start eating until 12 move it to 11 or 10 even? You can gradually push it back by half an hour as the weeks go on. It seems a good solution if you're struggling in the morning.

Eolian · 19/05/2017 14:25

So far so good here. I'm managing to just skip breakfast entirely and eat lunch at 12 even if I stopped eating by 7pm. I feel like I'm losing weight already, though I'm not weighing myself. Need to drink more water though - I find I have an unpleasant taste in my mouth by about 10.30 a.m.

BlaWearie · 19/05/2017 14:35

I tend to snack in the evenings, more so if I don't drink enough water in the morning. I eat 10 - 6, which fits in with the young family. I usually manage fasting until after the school run without too much problem.

Agoddessonamountaintop · 19/05/2017 14:59

Okay, I'm curious; have just been moaning on another thread about failing at weightloss blah blah blah. I've actually done really well over the last 18 months or so by developing a regular gym habit, plus occasional swimming. I usually go after the school run, but I always always always eat first. I think I'm afraid of hunger, as someone else mentioned (bad memories of going to school as a skinny teenager with an apple and a pear in my bag for lunch - what were you thinking Mum?), and also of flaking out on the treadmill! Can anyone re-assure me that exercise on an empty stomach is achievable? Actually, if I think about it, I do sometimes start feeling a bit queasy. I suppose I'll never know until I try!

theresamustgo · 19/05/2017 14:59

i was wondering about miso soup - but I have widely different ones - one is 30 cals, one is 18 cals....so dont know!

BlaWearie · 19/05/2017 15:06

Goddess I did a boxercise type class on an empty stomach this week; very high intensity. Just drink plenty. It was fine.

Agoddessonamountaintop · 19/05/2017 15:32

Well my gym sessions are definitely not high-intensity Bla, even if they sometimes feel that way to me! It's mainly weights with a bit of cardio. Might have to take the plunge!

Eolian · 19/05/2017 15:36

I couldn't do a long run on no food, but a gym session would be fine.

iknowimcoming · 19/05/2017 16:18

When I've done regular exercise in the past - not currently Blush - I always did it on an empty stomach, running, gym etc, I'd always eat when I got home as I know I'd chuck up if I ate and then ran. Never did me any harm Smile

Agoddessonamountaintop · 19/05/2017 16:48

I think it's probably normal isn't it? I'm just a wimp about being hungry Smile.

Nomojo2016 · 19/05/2017 20:13

Goddess I felt the same as you but did my first ever exercise session this morning - ok only yoga - but bloody hard intense yoga! And it was totally fine. Was amazed actually!

ILoveAGoodBrusselSprout · 19/05/2017 22:33

Goddess I regularly do a fasted cross-trainer workout early in the mornings (and I'm not particularly fit) and it's fine. Plenty of water is key

Agoddessonamountaintop · 19/05/2017 22:45

Okay < eyes glass of wine in hand >
will give it a shot!

ShowMePotatoSalad · 20/05/2017 08:16

if you feel so hungry you feel sick, please eat something. A small meal or snack is not going to derail your diet especially if you're going to the gym. I don't think it's healthy to ignore very strong indications from your body that it needs food (feeling a little hungry isn't a problem, feeling sick with hunger means you need to eat). That's just my opinion but I don't like the idea of anyone having to feel sick with hunger on a diet. X

Agoddessonamountaintop · 20/05/2017 08:40

I absolutely agree Showme - although I have to say that I tend to feel a bit sick while exercising on a full stomach (which I do 99% of the time). Weirdly, it seems to come on when I drink water after my cardio session.
I think I'm going to give this a try, but will adjust accordingly depending on how the exercise goes.

RitaMills · 20/05/2017 09:02

Agoddessonamountaintop I'm ok with excersise as long as it's not too high intensity. I can feel a bit shaky afterwards if it is, usually a coffee or green tea afterwards sorts me out.

If you're scared of hunger then this can be a bit difficult to do, you need to train yourself to embrace your hunger because you are going to feel hunger and if you have issues from childhood then that's quite a big hurdle for you. I'm the opposite, I was always the fat kid at school and back then there were not as many overweight kids as we have now so I really stood out. Lost it all in early 20s and have been consistently in the normal BMI range since, but I understand how weight issues in childhood can still affect you, even at my smallest size 6 I still felt like the fat girl as I spent my most impressionable years being just that.

So tonight will be my night off, I will fast until my usuall 11am then relax with my food and drink, tonight is usually movie night, DS and I like to get crisps and dip and some chocolate while we watch so I'm quite looking forward to snack night.

theresamustgo · 20/05/2017 10:23

Waaaaaah, all this talk of exercise. The reason I chose this diet was so as not to have to think about that. Is this where it am going wrongly?

theresamustgo · 20/05/2017 10:23

Autocorrect fail...

littlemissM92 · 20/05/2017 10:34

Presume it will work without exercise but it's proven exercise is about75% of maintaining / getting the body / weight you want and diet 25% so it obviously helps x

Agoddessonamountaintop · 20/05/2017 10:39

Thanks Rita. I don't think I really have issues from childhood - it's just I was surrounded by dieters as a teenager and became convinced by my sister that I was fat at 8st 7 and 5ft 6-7ish. I'm just having breakfast now actually so - onwards and upwards!
