Pico, hope it worked.

Jeez, day two and constantly peeing, very annoying.

pico1 · 27/05/2017 19:21

It did Slim (also found clothes shopping a great, if somewhat expensive distraction!) Discovered that the local Thai takeaway does a beef salad which has 249cals so will have that for dinner with some broccoli to bulk it out a bit. Today was much harder than the 1st day but I think it's the massively-reduced carbs rather than the calories. Felt weak and dizzy for much of the day but kept slugging water and hopefully tomorrow will be easier!

Flightywoman · 27/05/2017 21:47

My sister is visiting. We are boozing, BUT, I stuck to the right food so I've not gone totally bananas!

Sea bass and salad, no chips or other carbs.

Slimthistime · 28/05/2017 00:04

I'm hungry.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 28/05/2017 08:09

Well the book is certainly right about alcohol lowering ones resistance. Helllllooooo bag of Kettle Chips! Hmm

Flibbertyjibbit · 28/05/2017 13:14

Day 2, doing OK. Made crustless brocolli & brie quiche using recipe from the Greek yoghurt fage website (just omitted the pastry) works out at 153cals a slice - everyone loved it served with salad. I can alter recipe to quiche Lorraine, or a roasted veg quiche in the future. Will be great in lunch box too.

Has anyone carried on with 800cals past the 8 week point? I have a lot of weight to lose so wondering if this is OK long term. Possibly 5 days 800 cal and 2 days slightly higher?

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 28/05/2017 14:06

Flibberty I don't think there's any reason you couldn't carry on with 800 if you're finding it manageable

pico1 · 28/05/2017 14:11

Day 2 for me too. Feeling hungry (although not as hungry as yesterday) and irritable. Had scrambled eggs with 15g of feta and oven-roasted tomatoes for breakfast. Going to make Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's cauliflower and chickpea curry later as it's low in calories but feels very substantial. Hoping this starts to feel easier soon!

Flibbertyjibbit · 28/05/2017 15:54

Pico every time I think I'm hungry I have another glass of water, seems to take my mind of food and helps me feel less hungry.

Thanks Ginger, will see how I am feeling at end of the 8 weeks.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/05/2017 16:03

Hi all, just checking in from my holiday!
I've actually been quite good. None of the big 5 baddies. Everyone BBQ'd last night and I didn't have burgers and bread, I had a nice ribeye steak and salad. Said no to cake and dessert, salad for picnic lunch today instead of sandwiches. Obviously they all think I should 'relax' and enjoy myself Hmm
I did have a few drinks last night but prob won't have much tonight as its my turn to be on night duty with ds!

Hope you're all having a good week?

Fibberty - I've not read the book but I've been on and off Ketone diets for many years. The General rule of thumb on all the guidelines of each ones I've done (usually meal replacement ketone plans) is 3 months max on ketosis that's if you are on plan 100% then take a week break for your body to recover then you can go back into it again for another 3 months.

I used to be on a shake based diet forum and some of the ladies had been on ketone diet for more than a year. As long as you take the breaks it's fine.

I feel personally that 8 weeks is fine for most people who have a stone or two to loose but some people may have more.

As long as your happy, that's all that matters!

Pico - keep drinking, I find dizzy water fills me up. This feeling will pass, just give it a few days.

I can't believe it's my second weigh in tomorrow and I'm really looking forward to it. I don't think I'm going to loose lots as I lost 7lbs last week and this is my lowest weight I've done a diet like this. For me 7lbs is amazing as I've never had a result like that even when I was 2/3 stone heavier.

Bringmewineandcake · 28/05/2017 16:18

Kneesup some evenings my DH eats the same meal as me, and some nights I just make a BSD meal for myself and cook something different for him and our kids.
I notice how much he snacks while I'm not snacking myself!

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 28/05/2017 17:31

pico One of the things I kept telling myself I started intermittent fasting was that being hungry was something to just acknowledge and ignore, and not to be afraid of. Being hungry isn't going to kill me, and the short term sacrifice will be worthwhile. That's on the days I don't give in and stuff my face!

pico1 · 28/05/2017 18:17

TBH it's not the hunger that bothers me - I've been equally hungry while eating a "normal" amount of calories. It's the feeling of being spaced out and my brain not working properly that bothers me more. I'm assuming that's the lack of carbs?

PinkBlossomTree · 28/05/2017 18:29

Pico that feeling should go in the next day or 2.

Either today or in the next day or 2 you may possibly get a bad headache and maybe cold too almost flu like symptoms but the next day you wake up you will be over that hurdle and in fat buring mode and it will then be plain sailing.

I've taken this from a arrival I've been reading. Should explain it better than me.

People often report brain fog, tiredness and feeling sick when first starting a very low-carb diet. This is termed the “low carb flu” or “keto flu.”
However, long-term ketogenic dieters often report increased focus and energy.
When you start a low-carb diet, your body must adapt to burning more fat for fuel, instead of carbs.
When you get into ketosis, a large part of the brain starts burning ketones instead of glucose. It can take a few days or weeks for this to start working properly.
Ketones are an extremely potent fuel source for the brain. They have even been tested in a medical setting to treat brain diseases and conditions such as concussion and memory loss (14, 15, 16).
Therefore, it comes as no surprise that long-term ketogenic dieters often report increased clarity and improved brain function (17, 18).

Flightywoman · 28/05/2017 19:42

It went a bit wrong at 2am! I fell into some bread!

Today I went a bit off plan at lunch - mostly potato shaped but it wasn't massively off and I am already back on plan in my mind, in that I'm not doing that "oh it's blown, I will now eat all the things".

Bringmewineandcake · 28/05/2017 20:04

Good to know you can recover it, Flighty Smile
I've run out of salad leaves so had some cabbage with chicken, walnuts and feta for dinner! Not the worst combo ever but I won't rush to repeat it either...

Slimthistime · 28/05/2017 21:37

Well done all
Day 3. Out with with friends. Ended up telling them about the diet because of them having ice creams etc. Also wound up at Pizza Express and had a superfood salad. Had some breadsticks too tbh but I was a second away from having a pizza so I figure that was quite good, not 800 cals but today was always going to be an issue.

Now the next five days, no need to eat outside at all, yay. Then one meal out next weekend for a birthday then none in the diary, yay.

EagleRay · 28/05/2017 22:29

So, I realised as I was doing a wee in the middle of the night that my body might be jettisoning some excess water, and sure enough by 7am a kilo had disappeared!

I've just completed week 2 and am now 2 kilos down. Not a huge loss but still pleased. For quite a while my weight stuck fast but hopefully this is the start of more gradual loss.

Having said that, I've eaten anything and everything today. I don't feel particularly guilty as the week has been so hard: I had an awful throat infection all week and DP and I sleep in hospital on an alternate night basis to be with poorly DD. This has been going on for a month now and this weekend we were allowed to bring her home for two nights. It's exhausting as she's severely disabled (and we have a baby too) plus I've got a godawful headache, probably from all the painkillers I've taken.

Sorry - that wasn't meant to be a sob story: it's just that I felt like a bit of time out from
800 cals today as I've managed it fairly well for the last two weeks. I've thought about how everything tasted and made me feel and also about the 800 cal food I'll return to tomorrow. Also plan to try and build in some exercise as current lifestyle is very sedentary!

pico1 · 28/05/2017 22:47

Had some dark chocolate this evening (mindlessly forgot about the BSD and grabbed 4 squares from the cupboard when I was tidying up after dinner). Got a massive energy surge afterwards so am probably more dependent sugar than I thought! Have meals planned for tomorrow but am in two minds as to whether to have breakfast or to push on through and have larger portions for lunch and dinner.

Slimthistime · 29/05/2017 00:15

Eagle, well done
You're probably getting more exercise than you think what with hospital corridors etc
All best to you and yours Flowers

Pico, maybe see how you feel in the morning rather than decide now.

Flightywoman · 29/05/2017 09:16

Back on track today - the damage is a 1lb gain from Friday, but I'll take that...

Enjoy your bank holiday, I think we're having a quiet one after a fairly busy weekend, and that's just fine with me!

PinkBlossomTree · 29/05/2017 11:10

Well done to everyone getting back on the wagon today. It's very easy to slip up and give up completely. So hats off to you.

Week 2 weigh in and I've lost 4.5lbs.

Can't quite believe I've now lost 11 in two weeks, for me that is unheard of as I am usually a slow looser.

Bmi is down from 25.8 to 23.8.

I'm amazed how brilliant this BSD is. All the years I've spent loads of money each week doing ketone shake diets and I'm now doing it with real food. It's so much more easier now with real food and the only tools you need is kitchen scales and MFP.

Hope everyone has a amazing week

Slimthistime · 29/05/2017 12:20

Pink, that's amazing!
I couldn't sleep and ended up eating two slices of toast. But back on it today.

pico1 · 29/05/2017 15:57

Feel much more normal today (although still hungry). Last Monday I weighed 64kg and BF was 28%. Started BSD on Thursday. Today I am 61.7kg with BF of 24.5%. My hydration was better today which prob explains the drop in BF but considering I really, really struggle to lose weight I am pleasantly surprised. Hope everyone's Monday is going well.
