That's awesome flighty, you must feel on top of the world! It's so motivating isn't it?

For anyone interested, Aldi have avocados in their super six this week, so they are 45p each. I bought a couple and had half one in my shake, with almond milk and 50g frozen raspberries- it was my nicest one yet. Prawn cocktail and salad for lunch, and cod with pesto and Parma ham for dinner.

I love avocado - I shall have a look this week.

Thank you, I do feel on top of the world! I'm feeling good about myself, which is the first time in a while.

I know that every week won't be like this, but I've got about 7st to lose so rewards like that keep my motivation going.

Oblomov17 · 08/05/2017 12:06

Well done Flighty. Agree : You win the BSD [Star]

Batbear · 08/05/2017 12:17

Can I join in please?

My parents both have done brilliantly with BAD (both in their late 60s), I have 2.5 stone to shift before my birthday in Autumn.

Also I am mostly vegan, so suspect I need more planning and less peanut butter

Batbear · 08/05/2017 12:18

BAD?! BSD thanks autocorrect!

tobee · 08/05/2017 14:13

Can I join too, please?

I know snacking is frowned upon but I assume raw veg like pepper, cucumber, cauliflower etc is ok? Or not?

stitchglitched · 08/05/2017 14:36

6lb down after week 1. Pretty pleased considering I cheated a few times and friday was a complete write off! Now 11st 9. Next target to see the 10s on the scales. Need another 2st 2lb to reach a healthy bmi.

Batbear · 08/05/2017 15:23

Well done stitch that's the kind of motivation I need. Fast dropping half a stone would be brilliant!

I'm making notes and doing prep today so I can start tomorrow with a few meal plans under my belt. I'll weigh in the morning and face my demons too!

Flightywoman · 08/05/2017 15:36

Oh excellent work Stitch! Well done!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/05/2017 16:00

Tobee snacking is frowned upon, but if when I do I eat cheese, ham, prawns, olives etc rather than salad- the reasoning behind that being that it's more satisfying, less carbs, and actually keeps your hunger at bay. I find something very strong tasting such as mature cheese or chorizo much more satisfying.

The reason for not snacking is all insulin related. If you're insulin resistant then every time you eat, your body prepares itself to secrete insulin, and then when it does the cells aren't particularly responsive to it so you end up secreting more than you need. It means you have insulin 'leftover' in the bloodstream, and when insulin is in the blood you are storing fat not burning it. So the ultimate aim is to release only what you need and to get it used up quickly and efficiently. Fasting, eating Windows and 16:8 strategies all support this.

I snack, I can't get through the day without to be honest so I plan them in to make sure I have suitable things and calories available. Protein snacks that don't raise the blood sugars are better.

Ooh thanks for that response. What about while I'm preparing dinner? (Hopeful)

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/05/2017 19:21

That's my danger time too, I once worked out I'd eaten more calories standing in the fridge picking than my actual dinner had been!

My only solution to that is to bring your dinner forward. It's not always possible, but I was trashing my efforts every day so now I eat With the children most days at half 5.

Thanks for the recipe book suggestions- completely forgot that I'd asked the question!

rubybleu · 09/05/2017 06:29

Good work Stitch! That's a great result.

I'm back on this as it's the only thing that works for me. I want to lose 10% of my body weight (a little over a stone) by my summer holiday.

I can't eat either eggs or dairy so I have to get a little creative - I mostly skip breakfast as it's too hard on a work day.

Yesterday (disorganised) I had a soya latte for breakfast, a pick-your-own salad from Vital Ingredient for lunch, and haddock baked in Parma ham and sundried tomato pesto with steamed broccoli, beans and courgette for dinner for 800 calories.

Today is a coconut water, berries and vegan protein powder smoothie for breakfast; salad of lentils, avocado, cucumber, romaine & red pepper for lunch; and I'll have the same dinner.

Flightywoman · 09/05/2017 07:24

I'm on a course today, no idea what the lunch will be, but will do my best!

Plus, no snacks on the train!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/05/2017 07:37

Morning everyone, some great results. I'm down 1lb this morning, that's good for an overnight loss!

Menu today- shake made with frozen avocado, frozen rasps and almond milk. I usually have it mid-morning; lunch I'm making a Fritata with smoked haddock and peas, with salad. Then dinner is a Chinese meal kit from Aldi yesterday, although I have just checked and I think the marinade is quite sugary from the soy sauce and rice wine- should be ok provided I keep the carbs low elsewhere.

Have a great day!

Batbear · 09/05/2017 08:00

Morning. I'm all prepared and weighed. Have arrived at work with my breakfast of soya yogurt, flaxseeds and berries but will eat it as late as I can manage.

Lunch is cannelini beans with lettuce, tomatoes and capers and dinner is a sweet potato curry without rice which should all keep me under.

LalaDipsey · 09/05/2017 09:11

Hello lovely ladies. Any chance of some advice? I'm on week 4 and week 1 lost 4lb, week 2 lost 2.5lb and week 3 only lost 1lb. Any idea why my loss has slowed? I've not cheated and am exercising loads too! Any help would be v appreciated!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 09/05/2017 11:51

Lala we've all found that weight loss is irregular on BSD so don't be disheartened. Lots of us have found that around week 3 or week 5, there's been no weight loss at all. It either means you're losing inches instead (which is why it's a good idea to take measurements because it helps to keep you motivated) or you'll have another sudden drop the following week.

tobee · 09/05/2017 11:59

Thanks for your response bear. That makes sense. In the end I only had a carrot baton because it was my first main meal, day 1 and I was too busy thinking about what I was doing! But have to remember to be tough with myself in future.

tobee · 09/05/2017 12:00

Ps I know carrot isn't the best choice.

LalaDipsey · 09/05/2017 12:51

Thanks Couch that's reassuring. I have taken some measurements as of week 2 but am gutted I didn't take them at the start. I don't seem to have lost any inches this week but am spurred on that this can happen weeks 3&5. Hoping for a big drop next week! Thankyou

swlondonnanny · 09/05/2017 13:42

Hi ladies,
I just finished reading the BSD book and can see how it can work.
There is one question thought which I can't find the answer for. Can you carry on with the diet for longer than 8 weeks? Mean on low calories?
I have been low carbing for a couple of months and started to use MFP around 5 weeks ago. Generally I 'only' manage to eat 1000-1100 calories a day so thought it shouldn't be too difficult to go down to 800. But is there a limit how long I can stay on low calorie diet?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/05/2017 17:18

Tobee I doubt that one solitary carrot baton is going to scupper your weightloss too much!!
The problem I find is I have the carrot baton, then suddenly this crazy feeding frenzy happens and ten minutes later I'm sitting surrounded by wrappers with chocolate round my mouth!!!

My kids still have Easter chocolate, they're torturing me. Yesterday I was fine, today I was picky and several times have had to talk myself away from the eggs.

Hi nanny I'm fairly certain you can go longer as the website sells 12 week courses - online support etc - and other VLCDs go on until you're at target.

Today I HAVE NOT eaten:
Breakfast pastries
Elevenses cookies and muffins
Patatas bravas, rice, pasta.
Mille fueille pudding
Afternoon cakes

Look at my halo! And my iron resolve!

I have just scarfed a free graze protein power pack - they were being handed out at Oxford Circus tube!

At max calories for the day - slightly over in fact. But way in credit from walking half of Oxford Street.
