Shiny new thread for the BSD'ers. Best thing you can do is first read the MM bsd book do you get a full grasp of what the rules are but in a nutshell:
800 calories a day
No bread/pasta/potatoes/rice
No processed food, no alcohol
As close to no sugar you can get
Full fat, no low fat
Protein to keep you full
2-3 litres of water a day
10,000 steps a day (work your way up)
HIIT if you can 2-3 times a week

Cold, totm and nits - you're having no luck yumyum ! Flowers

FeeFighter · 02/09/2016 16:10

Thanks for the welcome. No longer breastfeeding and my second is a miracle baby that sleeps all night generally. 2 year old is a different story Confused

Does anyone know is there a number of grams carbohydrate we should limit ourselves to? I thought there was but can't find it in the book. I'm using My Fitness Pal so it calculates it for me.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/09/2016 17:09

We try to limit to 50g or less but I don't think it's written in the book.
Completely not BSD related, but I've accepted an offer on my house today!! Hurrah!! Now really want wine to celebrate..,,.WineSmile

FeeFighter · 02/09/2016 20:47

I finished the day on 723 calories and had 53g of carbs so not too bad. Managed a gym session and a bit of HIIT but jeez I am unfit!

Lndnmummy · 02/09/2016 21:20

I did not do that well today. My son had a little graduation at nursery and he had made cake and pizza with his friends. I recorded it all in the app and I have ended up on 1050 calories today. I have felt terrible all evening from the sugar as well, ugh. Oh well upwards and onwards tmrw. I am having a colonic (sorry if tmi) and I am weirdly looking forward to it.

yumyumpoppycat · 02/09/2016 21:30

Sounds good Fee, gotta love the miracle sleepers - my son was terrible but the girls slept so much better and it makes such a difference. I am terrible for staying up past midnight watching netflix but when I started this I was in bed by 10 every night to give it the best shot pos, eventually I found I could stay up later but think it helped being well rested in the first weeks, esp with the carb cravings. I think 2 under 3 (?) is hard and cut yourself slack if you need days where you go up to 1200 its no biggie, having said that 2 months of this and you will hopefully have lost a big chunk, wish I had done this diet when my 5 year old was younger!

Newaverage Wine fantastic news

My 3 nitty noras are all asleep now and I am having a coffee then I think I will go to bed too and shake this cold off hopefully!

yumyumpoppycat · 02/09/2016 21:34

That's exciting about colonic Lnd defo report back! Close the kitchen right now, dont beat yourself up about it, and that wont have been a bad day.

Breadandwine · 03/09/2016 00:27

Here's an article that might interest you, folks.

So it's the weekend....Grin but from a BSD perspective, that is a bit worrying. I really need to try hard and be strict, and not give in to 'that weekend feeling' where I usually inhale snacks and treats.
How does everyone else manage? I've lost 4lbs since Tuesday (week 1), so I don't want it all to go wrong this first weekend. Thanks!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/09/2016 09:23

Yes the dreaded weekend....we're off to an agricultural show today, bizarrely as I'm the least outdoorsy person you could imagine. I'm planning, albeit a bit optimistically, to stay sugar free, lowish carbs, and not calorie count today as I am imagining the good options will be limited. Green Thai curry tonight with lots of veg. Have a great day everyone!

Oblomov16 · 03/09/2016 10:25

How is H3 doing at all her social events and parties. Like couch, I love to live vicariously through her, her life sounds so exciting.

Bear, I enjoyed the joe wicks programme. But I cooked his eggs in avocado in the microwave, for breakfast this morning, and it really wasn't very nice. I love avocado and runny eggs and together they should be Devine. But the avocado cooked more than it should have and the eggs didn't cook much at all. No more cooked avocado for me. I think they are better if done separately and put together. I suspect it's just him wanting to be quirky, when it actual fact it doesn't work and old fashioned way is better.

Yummy so drizzle cake .... Yum.
Lndmummy, eating pizza, yum, oh dear, I have been too.

Feefighter welcome.

Yes, I've hardly eaten anything all week. And lost 5lbs. But I don't recommend this. I've just totally lost my appetite and interest in food. And when I did eat I ate pizza. So not good. I need to get back with the programme, no/less carbs and a bit more water.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 03/09/2016 10:48

Lounging when I started BSD I would arrange days out with lots of walking at weekends eg country estates, parks. I'm quite sedentary during the week so it was my chance to catch up on steps and I also couldn't eat much if I was out 😀

yumyumpoppycat · 03/09/2016 10:50

Hope your ok Oblomov and its just a blip?

My weekend strategy for the 8 weeks was just to keep going as during the week, but although I tried to eat healthily more veg etc I actually focused more on cals than carbs and my daily cals averaged out at 900 and sometimes my weekdays would be higher than weekends. I could only do this because my social life is not that exciting particularly in Jan and Feb! .

The book suggests brunch and dinner at weekends but I guess it is also reccomending 2 months alcohol free. Some people seem to go for a 2 days off 5 days on 800 approach from the beginning rather than 8 weeks at 800 followed by continued weightloss at 5 days low carb med and 2 days 800 cal low carb med.

Confused I am not the most eloquent sorry!

yumyumpoppycat · 03/09/2016 10:54

PS thanks for the link breadandwine as that does show my approach of concentrating on cals was poss not the most effective! Having said that the study has annoyed me a bit, why didnt they include a higher carb vegan diet - was the improved weightloss as a result of cutting dairy and eggs or was it purely the lower carbs?

Lndnmummy · 04/09/2016 07:45

Morning all, first weekend here as well and it has been fine. I find that skilling breakfast and then hving lunch and dinner with no snacking works great for me. This way I can find a way to socialise and eat out. I just make sure I stick to no carbs and would rather go over the calories than the carbs. Things ok so far, have lost 2.1kg so far (started on Tuesday).

pfrench · 04/09/2016 10:30

I think I had at least 800 cals of aperol spritz yesterday. Oops!

Loungingbutnotforlong · 04/09/2016 20:49

Thanks everyone- not too bad- cals at 1000 and 900 today, but based on more food, rather than just total rubbish or sweets. Certainly way better than my average weekend! Actually feel pretty good about it, and did a food shop so all set for the week Smile

Crumblevision · 04/09/2016 21:04

Hi all, I am taking the plunge with the bsd this week and wondered if I could join? I have a couple of q, does anyone eat Skyr (the plain one) on the bsd? Or should I swap it for ff greek yog? Also, is Aldi's Brooklea ff greek yog ok to have on the bsd? I prefer that or Skyr to Fage yoghurts.

Truthfully, I am terrified of doing this. But I have got to a point where I am the heaviest I have ever been, in the biggest clothes size I've ever been and I just feel yuck. I am planning on not looking at the bigger picture (8 weeks) and instead taking it day to day. I think it feels like I'm not going to eat a crumb but I suppose that is me being an emotional eater.

Roseformeplease · 04/09/2016 21:28

What happens after 8 weeks? Have only done 3 but one can dream....

yumyumpoppycat · 04/09/2016 23:52

Hi welcome crumble and rose!

I think so long as the yog doesnt have sweetners it should be ok?

Following the 8 weeks you then can reduce the number of days where you are eating 800 cals but still aiming to eat healthily along low carb mediterannean principles outlined in the book. MM suggests doing 2 days at 800 to slowly continue weightloss, nearly everyone on this thread seems to carry on with aiming for 800-1000 for at least 4 days a week at this stage as most of us had/have a fair bit to lose.

Well done lounging and lnd

I see your aperol pfrench and raise you a decent few glugs of the oreo milkshake dc made!

whatsonyourplate · 05/09/2016 10:26

Good luck crumble you can do this. You might feel a little hungry at times but you shouldn't be starving if you stick to low carbs, high protein and moderate fats. Don't forget to weigh and measure now so you can see how well you are doing.

I'm mid way through week 3 and slightly under the weather so craving something comforting like porridge or rice pudding - is there anything low carb which would fill that gap?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/09/2016 10:56

Weekend didn't exactly go to plan, but back on it today! Kids are back school (finally!) So have walked to schokl and back, done a shop with baby ds, meal planned for the week, put it all away and just having a coffee. Phew!
Re: yoghurt. I used to have Skyr yoghurt, but I reluctantly made the switch to full fat Greek. It seemed like a ridiculous waste of calories before, but I still had my slimming world head on. I now buy the Individual pots of Greek from lidl, because the big bucket was just too tempting. A couple of times a week I will have it with a handful of frozen raspberries, zapped in the microwave, and a few nuts. Its so creamy, you'll never go back to fat free again. Its part of the BSD mindset I think, to have a small amount of higher calorie food rather than lots of fat free. Greek yoghurt is higher in calories than normal natural full fat, so sometimes I will have that instead, but the Greek is delicious- and satisfying as well.
Welcome to all the new starters, its nice to see some new 'faces' on here. Your first weeks weight losses should hopefully motivate us old timers to keep on the wagon.....!

H3l3naGraham · 05/09/2016 10:57

Hi ladies! On train with dodgy signal, so proper post will have to wait 'til tomorrow. whatson I have eaten porridge during BSD, proper porridge, not instant, no sugar, but made with light almond milk, am 2lbs short of 2st weigh-loss. Would have lost more if hadn't got such a wine habit, also tend to BSD 5 days + slacken of for 2 days due to a rather 'lively' social life as some other posters have mentioned!! Sat was a write off, DH's birthday, wasn't so much the food, because by the time it arrived, I had drunk my own body weight in red wine + prosecco + could barely raise the fork to my lips.... SMACKS self.....!! Was good yesterday though, 18k steps and steak + roast veggies for dinner, yum!

Lndnmummy · 05/09/2016 12:51

Does anyone know about this net carb business? I am restricing my carbs as much as I can but wonder if I can have burgen sot and linseed bread? There is 11g carb per slice but 5gr fibre. Would they be "allowed".

Lndnmummy · 05/09/2016 12:54

Oh forgot to say, my first weeks loss is 2.6kg which is 5.7lb!! This is great for my motivation! Thank you so much for all your support
