I remember morning-afters like those......I used to call it Mind Movies.... When memory starts coming back in small flashes....... accompanied by low level moans from yours truly at the true horror of what I did/said.......

These days I go to sleep instead.... In restaurants, in bars, on the loo..........

Classy broad......Blush

Not2bObvious · 02/04/2016 17:56

Haha on the falling asleep on the loo, that happened 1 very very drunken night many years ago, after me telling my best friend how jealous I was that she was skinny - now that gave me one of my worse mornings after, the fear was off the charts! I was mortified and I had upset her, when I think of all the angst I've had through being 2-3 stone overweight these last 20 years, well it's madness isn't it? Hoping the next 20 will be easier!
Oh yes I'm Irish yum, and last night was a real Irish cliche with my drinking😝 Went out for a while shopping which got a few steps in & feeling much better

H3l3naGraham · 02/04/2016 18:38

Yes, Not2B - the gnawing angst, I know it well. Directed less at skinny friends, more at myself. Shopping was a hate-fest, I have really only shopped at M+S for years, because it was safe, i'd rarely be disappointed because whatever I chose would fit....sad.

So today I ordered a red lacy frock online, John Lewis didn't have it in stock, it's a cocktail frock for a special do I am going to in October, it's not M+S, it's a true 16 ie more like a 14 + it is going to bloody fit me come Oct 1st, come what may. If it's too big by then, I shall get it taken in.

Damned tyranny of fat, no more I say!!!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 02/04/2016 21:27

Today was day 3 for me and I was so grumpy and tired that I caved and ate a rice crispie cake. I feel disappointed but it made me feel so much better ie less tired and lethargic and grumpy.

I hope it was a temporary blip.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 02/04/2016 22:01

Please may I join this lovely thread? I go on my first holiday in 5 years in exactly 8 weeks. This diet seems to be the answer to my prayers! I have done both 5:2 and low carb before, but I was breastfeeding both times and since I stopped in Jan my metabolism seems to have stopped with it. I've got a good 2 stone to lose, but shedding 1 in 8 weeks would be beyond brilliant. My real goal is 9 stone (I'm 5 foot 2) but anything starting with a 9 would make me sing with joy. I found the thread at about 6pm, so it's too late for today, but I'll get going properly tomorrow.

Am I right in thinking that so long as you stick to 800 cals you can't go far wrong? Ie, the odd carb doesn't bring it crashing to a halt like on classic LC?

What do you reckon is a realistic loss in 8 weeks? Do you think I'll manage a stone?

ExConstance · 02/04/2016 22:48

Welcome TEIC! I would also like to know what the estimated 8 week weight loss is if you are very good. I will have been on the diet for 2 weeks on Monday and have lost 8lb so far - which I can't imagine will carry on at this rate. Calorie calculators tell me that it will be abo;ut 2lb a week once things settle, which would suit me fine to be
2 dress sizes down for a family birthday in June. I'm 5'3" and want to be just under 9 stone when I finish dieting all together. I'm finding the weekends quite hard but the weeks are a doddle as I work in an offfice in an isolated area where there is no food unless you take it in.

yumyumpoppycat · 02/04/2016 23:59

Welcome cheddar! and well done ex con!

Place on the couch rice krispie squares happen, hope its easier tomorrow.

Once past the first 2 weeks it slowed to about 2lbs a week for me it prob depends on how much you need to lose. I am not sure about the carbs element, I have found I can have some if I keep cals low but food is much more filling if low carb. Big choc said that we don't have to count carbs in veg and beans etc we but shouldn't be eating starchy foods like grains, I think the thing is obviously to avoid things that we know raise our blood sugar, if you have a bad day look at what you have eaten. Some of us have found going off plan causes a quick gain which usually comes off reasonably quickly but not worth doing too often. Keep posting it really helps somehow!

yumyumpoppycat · 03/04/2016 00:03

The other benefit to keeping low carb is because the cals are so low you need to get in as much good nutrition as possible through unprocessed food, veg, fish, beans etc

oolaroola · 03/04/2016 10:02

Hi Everyone
I was thinking of trying this WOE but before I buy the book can anyone tell me if it contains meal plans? thanks

Not2bObvious · 03/04/2016 10:13

Welcome new folks. If you google Michael Mosley daily mail I believe you'll find an article with meals plans. The book contains recipes not plans as such. A sample of what I eat on an 800 day would be Greek
Yog with some flakes almonds & frozen berries (200-250), omelette with cheese/onion & black pudding (300-350), griddled chicken in spices with roasted pepper/mushrooms (200-250). I call anything between 800-1100 a good bad day. I don't eat low fat, bread/rice/pasta/potatoes - once you remove them from your diet, 800 cals isn't that low a number.
To answer someone's question, is 8 weeks enough to lose a stone? Depends on lots of things, very likely it is if you follow it to the letter. However, I would say don't get hung up on the numbers yet, just do it and see how you get on. Best of luck to you - so nice to have more people to chat to. Sorry for lack of name checks, still in bed 😁

H3l3naGraham · 03/04/2016 10:17

Morning all, welcome newbies!

Yes the book does have meal plans & is essential reading, it's a real eye-opener. I also recommend looking at the BSD website, not just for interesting forums and chats but for the recipes.

The best way I have found is to view all simple carbs as a poison, complex carbs are different of course. So sugar, white pasta, rice, biscuits, cake, sweetners = toxic.

What YumYum says is absolutely correct, if you put 800 calories of carb on one plate & 800 calories of permitted foods on another the portion quantity of the non-carb plate is much more substantial!

The diet does let us eat lentils, chickpeas, butter beans and other legumes, so there is food with carb-feel in there.

Keep drinking lots of water, it will help with weight loss, I am averaging 2lbs a week, if I shifted my lazy backside more often & did the 10,000 steps recommended I have no doubt that I would lose more. Have signed up to an aqua-aerobics class which will help.

The diet is about re-educating our palates & way of eating and it works!!

oolaroola · 03/04/2016 11:56

Thanks for the info - it's really helpful.
I think I'll orer the book and have a look.
I'd just like some planning cos I hate calorie counting, it gets me too obsessed!
I'm not in a massive rush but would like to shift a stone and a half or thereabouts. I've got a bit heavy this winter as my arthritis kicked off in the autumn and I couldn't exercise as normal. Sugar is really bad for arthritis anyway, but I am addicted. have tried low carb in the past and always feel great but struggle after the 3 week mark to sustain it...

H3l3naGraham · 03/04/2016 12:15

Hi oola I have arthritis too, have 2 new hips, shame they can't sort my feet out too......! The meal plan in the book is there as a guideline & it is balanced, I have changed it & swapped some meals with the recipes posted on the BSD site, just to get some variety!

Like Not2b I work within 800 - 1000 cals a day, more at weekends, if I stray badly like this weekend, I rigidly go to 800 for the following week.

Good luck!

H3l3naGraham · 03/04/2016 12:37

The more at weekends is the 1000 level sorry just re-read post post wasn't clear!

Laska5772 · 03/04/2016 13:06

Thanks for all the telling off! Well the weekend has been good and with Wine , but I have had a rethink about going forward with this WOE.. and have new plan (as I do want to lose the 10 lbs , but also start making this a doable long term maintenance plan) as youknow I did well on 5:2 but ended up losing myway with it and putting 2 stone back on.. I really dont want to be inthe position where I have to lose it all agin , in a few months/years

So until I lose the 10 lbs , Im thinking doing a sort of ' 2:4.1 regime that is 2 days eating what I want (with some wine most likely, but really restricting the other bad carbs) ,then 4 days doing the BSD M diet at around 8/900 , then 1 day fasting (a light dinner of protein. veggies only ) ?

I can do this eith Fri eve and Sat , being the 2 'higher days' Sunday fasting, ..(am doing so today no breakfast or lunch ) then Mon-thursday 800 cals.

How does that sound ?

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 03/04/2016 13:19

Checking in - so far have consumed a 2 egg omelette with mushrooms and 25g cheese - 350 cals. Starting to glug water now!

Good eating today, everyone!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 03/04/2016 13:22

Starting weight: 10 stone 11.75
Waist measurement: 31 inches (30 if I pull the tape measure really tight)

Just noting that down so I can look back at it! I'm very sedentary so I intend to start Shredding after work too.

H3l3naGraham · 03/04/2016 14:07

Hi laska - I think if it works for you, then that's fine; will be interesting to see what affect the 2 days eating what you like ie carbs has on your weight. It will only be when you start doing this that you see if it slows down your weight loss much.

mootime · 03/04/2016 14:54

Hi all.
So I've been sticking to the principals all weekS before but I've decided to go for it and try to do the 800 cals every day for two weeks and see how I get on. Two weeks should kick start things again and doesn't seem too scary then if I move to 5:2 / 4/3 or some other combo after that I can keep chipping away at it.
Wish me luck...

Laska5772 · 03/04/2016 14:59

Im not planning on going bread/ potatoes mad on my 2 days. . just thinking one slice of bread open sandwich for lunch OR a couple of spuds/ spoonful of rice with dinne rif I want to. anyway i'm going to give it a go and see, (it wil only be Friday evening and saturday) and if ive gain next weekend ill have a rethink .

Actually , i dont usually even bother with potatoes (though I do like bread) and can do without pasta altogether ( I actually prefer my pasta sauces on courgettes or salad anyway ..) .So keeping on monitoring is my plan..

But i do like to have a drink if I want one .. ( this was my downfall before , but I did manage to maintain on 5:2 but only having wine at weekends UNTIL i forgot to fast at all!) .

I have reread the book this weekend , and it has reinspired me I recommemd a re read to all of us who have been doing it a while ..

Laska5772 · 03/04/2016 15:02

have had no food at all so far today , but I have just been to the shop and bought a nice sirloin steak for my dinner. (Am here on my own this evening DH works away all week and i have just dropped him off for his journey back )

I'll have that steak with pesto and garlic mushrooms and salad I think ( mmmm.. cant wait!)

isshoes · 03/04/2016 15:04

Hi all, am new to this thread, currently on day 3 of the eight week plan. Is anyone else else mainly following the recipes in the book? I have so far, and have loved them. I've been having the yoghurt with rhubarb for breakfast, the Spanish chickpea soup, and the skinny chilli, which was unbelievably good. I'm also planning to try making my own almond butter this week, as well as the spicy chicken with lentils.

Re the almond butter, I really need a better blender/food processor, but can't afford to spend too much. Any recommendations would be much appreciated!

zobalina77 · 03/04/2016 15:12

With the sun being out my little boy wanted burgers to eat in the garden. So I have made cloud bread to go with mine and a huge salad. Have also made some fake 'potato' salad made with cauliflower. Yum.

Breadandwine · 03/04/2016 15:18

Hi oola and Graham

I too, am an arthritis sufferer - well, I was, until I became a vegan. Since then my symptoms have completely disappeared. I'm aware that is only a study of one, but then I came across an article which I've blogged about.

At the very least, you've nothing to lose by eating a plant-based diet.

oolaroola · 03/04/2016 15:39

Thanks Bread and Graham all good information. I've been trying to eat a lot less for the last 3 weeks and was doing well until this weekend. We've had visitors and I've had quite a lot of carbs and wine - gonna get back to normal tomorrow though cos it's made me feel like crap.

What type of arthritis did you have Bread? Mine is an autoimmune type - psoriatic arthritis. Do you include bread/gluten in your plant based diet?

Am not sure if dairy effects mine but have defo noticed that sugar and booze do. Possibly gluten too....
