Wow, Clare, that's brilliant!

ExConstance · 18/04/2016 12:10

Not a good day! after finding this diet quite easy I hit the weekend feeling decidedly deprived an with my stomach grumbling for a more normal way f eating. So, a sandwich, two slices of mediteranean bread ,two pieces of almond lemon cake, a couple of ounces of pumpkin seeds and both of the avocados that should have lasted the week have gone down the hatch. I can't see that any of that will add up to a pound weigh gain over a full week, but the scales show 3lb this morning, not nice. I've resolved to climb back on the wagon this morning and as I'm away at my mother's ( she is 90 and eats like a flea) next weekend hopefully this will not be repeated. Grr.

H3l3naGraham · 18/04/2016 12:29

Weekends really are a big issue, aren't they, not unsurprisingly, we need some form of boot camp like that Sugar Farm programme last month......!

Not2bObvious · 18/04/2016 12:49

Never mind ex, I found the first 4 weeks easy wrt bread etc. I don't eat a lot of it in normal life iykwim so I wasn't missing it much. But on week 6 with my bad bad hangover & I had toast, that was it - floodgates open. Toast=gateway drug for me! Chips, more bread, rice, biscuits, totally lost the plot. Weekends are tough no doubt

Hi guys!

Just popping in to say that, IME, weight gained quickly will go just as quickly provided you get straight back in the zone. In the past I've put 5lbs on over a heavy weekend and lost it by my second FD on the Wednesday!

Good luck to everybody - it's so nice to see you all doing so well! Smile

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 18/04/2016 13:38

How many calories does being constantly cold burn? Bloody office is freezing and there's a vent blowing cold air at my head. I am trying to drink water but it is difficult when it just makes you colder. Grr. I have complained about this before and got nowhere - it's always on a Monday!

H3l3naGraham · 18/04/2016 13:56

Hi tooextra - if this doesn't sound too weird, drink the water hot/warm....it is actually easier on the system as it can be assimilated quicker and it warms you up.

In my last office I used to wear gloves and a shawl/throw thing, I cut the fingers out of the gloves so I could use my computer.....it was such a good look when we had guests....

Veggy · 18/04/2016 14:15

Argghhh I've just weighed myself again and now I seem to be 10.7 up from 10.1 yesterday morning. So yesterday's madness has cost me 6lbs. And I was so close to being in the 9's for the first time in about 20 years. I'm fuming. Dieting is such a gruelling game.
Anyway, thanks for all the advice and reading this blog is so so helpful.

Not2bObvious · 18/04/2016 14:39

Put the scales away Veggy, that's pointless weighing after you've surely eaten/drank today.

Afternoon all.
I have had the week from hell. Work has been absolute chaos after a big problem. Hopefully its now sorted ( or heading that way) and my stress levels have definatly reduced. I also had monster PMT so i just simply couldn’t get through the week anywhere near the 800 cals.
There was much booze and chocolate and at the weekend, just when I had got my resolve back, we went to a friends who had cooked pizza for lunch.
So, over the week since my brilliant weigh in last tues at 167, I have put those 4lbs back on. I am hoping that a couple of good FD’s will shift that and then I need to focus on getting somewhere proper with this.

Well done all of you have lost and Flowers to those who have struggled like me.
I am determined to do this, ( eve though it seems like I am more off the wagon than on…)

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 18/04/2016 15:24

Will drink some hot water, thanks H3I3! I'm trying to cut down on tea because of the milk calories, but I could probably manage just one more.

Veggy, yy to not weighing again - I weigh first thing in the morning only, after I have been to the toilet!

Moo, that sounds horrible, but I'm glad to hear it's over now. If you needed chocolate and wine to get through it, so be it! I bet a few days back on it and you'll be back to 167, easily!

yumyumpoppycat · 18/04/2016 15:54

Glad things are getting better Moo Flowers

We can do it people! Apparently consistency is key so we need some consistent 'good days' under our belts . Only weigh in once a day first thing, naked after the loo (although sliding the scale around the bathroom floor until you get the sweet spot is allowed). I am lecturing myself here btw I have not been on the path of healthy this afternoon :( damn you addictive healthy sounding REAL crisps from poundland.

H3l3naGraham · 18/04/2016 16:23

Consistency.... yep, need to chant that LOUDLY to myself!!

clare8allthepies · 18/04/2016 17:22

To those of you feeling rubbish after a gain over the weekend. When you first eat a low carb diet your body uses up its store of glycogen before it switches over to fat burning. The glycogen is stored along with 3-4 times its own weight in water so getting rid of this at the start is why it's common to have a great loss in the first week.

As soon as you eat a decent amount of carbs the glycogen stores are refilled which is why 3 pounds or more appear on the scales instantly. Once you cut back on carbs again it will go once more.

Not2bObvious · 18/04/2016 17:55

Great explanation Clare
I've had a minor blip, few oven chips and 2 x rich tea bicciesBlush BUT my carbs are still under 50gr and I'm just under 900 cals. I'm toying with the idea of a quick walk when himself gets in, take my mind off food. But then again I am knackered...like the idea of a bath but scared I'd get stuck in it! Thoughts of being hauled out doesn't appeal funnily enough 😉

I recognise that description Grin

I have a question please? Is there a limit that you shouldn't fall ^below* for carb intake? I do have the book but can't remember

H3l3naGraham · 18/04/2016 20:41

couch - I am squinting at the book in a dark kitchen, can't find minimum, but suspect as BSD site regulars aim at 50 & below I would look at that as your upper limit, some seem to eat at 35, any help?

not2b might well have an answer, she is very wise on all this info.

Sputnik · 18/04/2016 20:45

I can actually lose 2kg by leaning forward in just the right way on my scales!

Don't know about a lower carb limit really, but the BSD is not really about low carb for low carb's sake, as much as stabilizing blood sugar by sticking to complex carbs that won't cause a spike. That said to get 800 cals working well you'll be looking to get good levels of protein and fat for feeling fuller, so once you've done that, added a bunch of veg and a few pulses your carbs will come in pretty low.

Sputnik · 18/04/2016 20:46

I think 30 is really hardcore low carb, you probably wouldn't want to go much lower.

H3l3naGraham · 18/04/2016 21:09

Attempted to stand on scales on 1 foot to see if that made a difference. Hit head on towel-rail, but weight static.....

Not2bObvious · 18/04/2016 21:13

Hmm, I'm not 100% sure. I did ask a while back on the bsd site. Under 50 does seem to the recommendation for strict bsd and the I think maybe bcf mentioned 70 as a limit on more relaxed days but if you wanted to stay bsd friendly. On another note, my stomach is singing a strange and warbling song 😟

😂 H3l, get back on solid land!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 18/04/2016 21:18

Thanks! For the first time ever, I have ended up with very low Cals and carbs about 30 so am just trying to work out how much I need to push them up by.

On the scales gymnastics I can lose 2lbs depending on where I sit them on the bathroom floor. I am resisting the temptation to move them 😀

Obs2016 · 18/04/2016 22:13

Goodness, ha ha, I hadn't been taking any notice of what my carbs were!!! Just looked it up MFP. Must pay more attention.

ExConstance · 18/04/2016 22:42

Thanks for the messages of support, yes I know the extra I put on at the weekend will soon be gone. Today I discovered butternut squash spaghetti stuff in Sainsburys and hadsome with a tofu stirfry for supper, delicious, much nicer than rice or noodles.
