oola everything obs says is pretty spot on, this lady knows her stuff! We are all in in this together. On that note, I am going to zizzzzzzzzzzzz I need my nest.xxx

H3l3naGraham · 09/04/2016 08:00

Not2b - you are very knowledgeable, I can't store this stuff in my head, wish I could. Have to have the book with me all the time, to refer to. I am re-reading as recommended, it does help as was suggested. It is startling how many things I seem to have forgotten already.

Right, eggs for brekkie, no lunch & whatever the hotel offers for dinner tonight, it's a fixed one. Managed a on-diet starter of tomato & mozzarella, chicken with veggies, (no spuds) & cheese instead of pud last night. Way over calories but ok on the carb front.

Then there was the wine.

I should have had you all whispering in my ear, telling me to be good.......

Not2bObvious · 09/04/2016 08:10

Thanks H3l that's a lovely thing to say, years of dieting and nearly 2 years of 5:2 mean I've read/watched a LOT about the art of losing weight. Well I must be a dreadful artist, I've never cracked it lol! But this concept of sugar being the culprit (and it's not new, someone shared a guardian article about a guy who wrote a book on it in 1972 I think & had his career ruined) is huge for me. It clicks, it fits, it's true - I have no doubt it's true. I feel like I'm getting in on the ground floor of a revolution lol!
Now, saying that I ate everything I shouldn't yesterday due to my hideous hangover, although I drank no more. I won't lie, I tried a few sips of wine but nope, I'd poisoned myself and even I couldn't get past that.

I've put back on 6 lbs and am back to the weight I was 2 weeks ago. 10-3. Well and truely back in the 10's. 😢
No Alcohol, but a bit of chocolate. Still low/no carbing and watching what I'm eating.
And whoosh. Back to square one. What a pisser. Bit confused.

MarvellousCake · 09/04/2016 08:25

Read most of this thread. Bought book yesterday. Starting to think about what I'm eating. Will go "full Mosley" on Monday or Tuesday after shopping. I am a short-arise and have just tipped over 10st9 which is big for me. Weight is now going onto middle not just bum. I have a big birthday this year and a family wedding. Both good incentives to get healthy. Bit worried about catering for the kids and staying "good". Any tips gratefully received!

agteacht · 09/04/2016 08:29

Morning all

Similar trend going on here, Friday night temptation meant I shared a curry with the hubby. No booze though. And normally would have had a whole one to myself!

Anyway hopped on the scales to a further 1lb rise this morning... seeing the trend with me once weekends hit?!

That said I really felt I had kept it under control and it's time of month so could that be my excuse???
clinging desperately to hope

Only one way to find out I guess, keep going!!
Off to parkrun to run some of it away in the mud!

Have a good day all Hmm

Not2bObvious · 09/04/2016 08:45

Agteacht, weekends always cause fluctuations, that 1lb will be retained fluid & food - be gone by Monday/Tuesday
Obs sorry you're feeling bad about it, totally understandable. Have your day out and enjoy it, I've had too many things ruined by a bad WI. You're only 10.3, there's nothing wrong with that! Put a nice get up on, slap in your face & enjoy the company. Life's too short

H3I3 yes I think your right. I think I punish my body for not being the right body. I get to a point where it's too much then start something. I'm hoping this time that the diet with plenty of head work will get me to a place where I care for myself by eating well

H3l3naGraham · 09/04/2016 08:52

Hi Marvellous - mine have all flown the nest, but you can (as an example) make them Spag Bol and you just eat the sauce. Or do a grilled, or pan-fried pieces of chicken with a tomato based sauce, which they would eat (hopefully) - you just don't eat the carb bits.

Well, that wasn't very helpful was it......

Not2B - 2 years on 5:2 - good grief, I was fit to kill after 2 weeks, marriage would have hit the skids if I'd stuck to it......This one at 800 (ish..) is something I can do & DH is too, which helps. He can 5:2, I just couldn't.

Agteacht - park running in mud...... You are very disciplined, I am about to go on a round of crazy-golf with friends & rellies . Not going to use up many calories on that.....

Obs - have a look at the BSD site, there are others who put on a bit & got stuck, you aren't alone. In fact all diets plateau (bloody intuitive text, kept inputting plagues instead of plateau) at some stage, am sure that is what's happening to you. Are you perhaps putting on muscle - toning up?

oolaroola · 09/04/2016 08:54

Thanks for the advice everyone - very helpful.
Day four here - am crossing off the days on the calendar like someone in solitary confinement which is amusing and motivating. ha ha.
I'm enjoying the food so far and can put up with feeling a bit hungry so far.
Scales are the same this morning so I imagine it's going to be a bit of a rollercoaster which I need to mentally prepare for more than anything.

Must dust off the old pedometer. Have a good weekend everyone - am not planning much here, although am on a raw food course tomorrow so will have to plan my meals around the ineveitable tasting session.

Obs2016 · 09/04/2016 09:16

Thanks Not2. I will glam up, slap on! Grin
I don't think it's muscle H3, I barely do any exercise, a tiny bit of walking.
But you are all right. I'm off to enjoy my day today. Majorly.

agteacht · 09/04/2016 11:04

Good advice as always everyone!

H3l - crazy golf sounds eh... different? Smile No - retro!! Smile

New personal best in parkrun today despite the mud... 29.56 - those ever important 4 seconds. I'll credit Michael Mosley for that too!

Yummy 175cal breakfast of eggs and bacon and now for an afternoon of the boring-but-necessary cr*p.
Hope everyone has a lovely Saturday!

MarvellousCake · 09/04/2016 11:28

H313 - Thanks - I sort of did that last night (although not properly started yet). Kids had noodles with veg, and I just replaced the noodles with some cabbage. Sounds a bit weird but actually was fine.

I've pretty much finished the book now, so I'm actually calling today Day 1, as I think I can get to the shop later to pick up lots of vegetables!

Not2bObvious · 09/04/2016 13:26

Aldi had celeriac slaw today! Hurrah! Just had it with egg mayo & ham - delish. Popped on a beef stew in the SC which I'll have with cauli mash tonight. I'm aiming to stay under 1000 today after the carnage I wreaked on myself yesterday. Still feel a little delicate, and may or may not have a glass of red with it. I only bought red so I have to share, and only 1 bottle so I don't have a repeat of yesterday. Hour long walk done, just need to knock up another 1400 steps & I'm target. Think I'll treat myself to a bath in a bit, haven't done that in ages! Hope the golf was fun H3l, I always like the idea of it, then get bored halfway through and let the kids take my shots

H3l3naGraham · 09/04/2016 14:04

Hosed down with rain..... blowing a hoolie...... DH wants to go on zip-wire instead..... but I didn't want to chuck up over the good people of Bournemouth....so bought DH some jeans which will fit him, he's dropped 4 belt notches since starting BSD with me!

Now in a bar......no surprises there...

oolaroola · 09/04/2016 14:38

Cor has anyone else tried the spanish chickpea and chorizo soup from the book? Just had it for lunch and it was delicious!

Made a bit of an error today, decided would have the steak for dinner tonight, skip breakfast and have the soup for lunch. I felt really awful, dizzy and starving - better planning needed I think. Not sure I can skip breafast again, will opt for a brunch thing instead I think, and have miso soup and some almonds or something mid aftertoon if I'm planning a bigger dinner.
Hope everyone else is doing well.
I'm mostly lounging around in front of the fire now, but planning a dog walk to the beach later....

yumyumpoppycat · 09/04/2016 16:01

Hey everyone am back from family easter hol 2.2lb heavier and worried about scale tomorrow as I have been a snack monster today. H31 I am very impressed by your reports from bournemouth, funnily enough we were playing crazy golf in our family yesterday but I didn't even look at mumsnet or MFP Blush. Fingers crossed I will be lower carb tomorrow and proper 800 on mon at least.

yumyumpoppycat · 09/04/2016 16:03

PS welcome newbies, oola I find I do best with most of my calories earlier in the day.

H3l3naGraham · 09/04/2016 17:15

Hello yumyum nice to have you back! Yes, I prefer a decent brekkie and lunch and a smaller dinner, but tend to eat in tune with DH who prefers it the other way around. oola - you need to work out the best way forward for you, we are all different.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/04/2016 20:49

Hi everyone, can I join too? I'm currently on day 11 , completely sugar free so far. The last few days (totm!) I've had a few more carbs, such as some sweet potato, and a granary roll. I'm struggling a bit to keep to 800 cals and instead seem to be hitting about 900-1000. For the week ahead I have meal planned and calorie counted until Wednesday and then will have shopping delivered for the following week, which helps me keep on track. My stats are: starting weight 13.2, current weight 12.8, my aim is to lose another stone by Whitsun hols but more if possible. I have had gestational diabetes three times and have pcos as well so insulin control is my main aim along with weight loss.

AutumnLeaves100 · 09/04/2016 21:59

Hello I'm joining in too, and my first ever post on MN. This thread inspired me, so I bought and read the book, and I'm now on day 2. I am 5ft 2in and my start weight was 10st 7lb. I have nearly always followed SW as a way of life as I love my carbs, and have managed to maintain a 9 1/2 stone weight, but for a wedding a few years ago I wanted to shift a stone so I did the Harcombe diet and got down to 8st 6 which was amazing and much more like me in my 20s. Since then I've not been able to stick to SW hence the stone over my 'normal' weight. I haven't tracked my food yet, as I am struggling with mfp. I find it almost impossible to add my own recipes, over an hour to add one and it is driving me nuts. I don't know cup measures (other than for chocolate muffins) so have been having to google to find out the cup equivalents and I've just given up. Do you have any helpful hints?

Not2bObvious · 09/04/2016 22:05

Welcome Autumn -byou can change the measurements in mfp to grams, I'll see can I figure & explain in next day or so. Nice to see you here too the
Advice will follow but having date drink night with dh & I guess I should put the phone down 😉

autumn I do my cals the old fashioned way, none of this my Mfp, I write my menu out, then use google to find the calories of each item, often it comes from weight loss resources site. Reminds me of my dm's old calorie counter books from the 1980s! I find most food has cals per 100g at least on it somewhere
