Just wondering if anyone has tried this and how it went? I am about ten days in and coping well so far.

I have been low carbing for years on and off, and on 5:2 since Sept which seems to make the fasting easier.

big choc are dumbbells and kettlebells ok if barbells aren't an option?

lrb978 · 24/02/2016 00:33

buzzy can't promise I'll be successful for the rest of the week, and it is generally around a week of munchies I get Sad. However I have aspergers and can be extremely focused on a goal, focused enough to ignore any issues. On the flip side, food and diet-wise, I have issues with texture of some foods and with things tasting 'wrong' due to substitutions, so definitely swings and roundabouts.

Elvish · 24/02/2016 07:34

Thanks YumYum I will probably have a lot of the same meals so working it out from the packet ones isn't too bad. I've also been putting things in the recipe builder so I can have them again and again without calculating.

I managed the 800 again yesterday and today should be the same assuming I don't get tempted and fall off the plan.

I'm not hungry but my diet has been bad for a long while that I eat even when I'm not hungry and I'm really craving sweets. Anyone know how long it might take to get through it?

Hope everyone has a good day, I've been reading back over the thread and I'm going to measure my waist now so I have a before measurement. Grin

Sputnik · 24/02/2016 07:53

I tried MFP and found it a bit confusing, a lot of the foods were entered by users and when I checked them they weren't always accurate, also the measurements were inconsistent, I weigh things in grams and often that wasn't on there.
I switched to fitday as I found it easier and faster to use, it tracks all the micronutrients as well as macro, and it has every graph and chart you could wish for, which I LOVE, a major motivator!

Obs2016 · 24/02/2016 09:26

Doing ok. weighed today. lost 4lbs, but remember, I had weirdly put on 3, so really only lost 1lb. But at least its something.

yesterday, I had nothing for breakfast because I just couldnt face bloomin youghurt and blueberries again! I had homemade soup, pumpkin, red onion, and chilli - one of those saisburys pre made bags, that I just made up. was lovely. Ive got it for lunch today. Again Ive skipped breakfast. Im at work now, and find it all easier when Im at work, whereas yesterday I was at home.

Last night, I made some old el paso chicken to go in tortia's. Kids loved it. I had mine in lettuce.

But I also made some fajita chicken, just with dry rub. It was spicy. Dh loved it. Ds1 too. They scoffed most of it. I actually made it for me, for during the day/lunches, so was a bit peeved that they scoffed the lot. (Im going to make some more today, once Ive been to the supermarket, yet again, for the 100th time - I feel like im shopping every other day!!)

But dh said it was the tastiest thing he'd eaten in the last month. Which made me think, maybe we just need more spice, less bland, to titillate he tastebuds, is maybe where I need to go with this?

My friend, who is a big foodie, is doing a similar regime to us lot, struggling atm, with a zero interest in food/ general fed-up-ness. Is this just a mid way low that you need to ride out? what do you all think?

Sputnik · 24/02/2016 09:46

I definitely think that making stuff tastier by adding more seasoning is one way of making smaller meals more satisfying.
If you look at the 800 cal limit as a challenge and a chance to try new recipes I guess it'll be easier to stick to long term. I have been cruising pinterest for interesting things to do with cauliflower. Will report back.

Not2bObvious · 24/02/2016 10:15

Morning all. Down by 1.6 from 11.11.4 to 11.9.8!!! Delighted - very encouraged to keep going. Don't think it's a glitch as I had sts for 3 days. Only 7.2lb to 1st goal.
I feel like I've been to the shops a crazy amount of times over last weekend but I made a decision to tough it out and use what I have til payday tomorrow. Going to try something with cauliflower tonight and fish. Breakfast & lunch are 1 meal split in 2. 2 egg Omelatte with back bacon, small bit of black pudding and mushroom. Big walk planned for later, cold but sunny here

yumyumpoppycat · 24/02/2016 10:41

Ooh signed up to fitday too now! Might run them side by side for a day and see what differences I get (can you tell I'm not working today ;) ) MFP seems to be tough on my phone (uses up battery) so might be good to try something else.

yumyumpoppycat · 24/02/2016 11:08

hmmm so far I think my fitness pal is easier for searching for items as you can search for brands rather than generic items (only been 5 minutes though) 2 slices of unsmoked bacon on the packet says 120 cals, on fitday 212 but on my fitness pal I found the exact item straight away and all the macros seem to be there. I guess I would lose more weight if I went by fitdays calories though!

Actually I don't think I have time to do two apps all day so better stick with MFP for now but for people who weigh their food and cook from scratch and want to track nutrients Fit day might be better than MFP and for people who want to look quickly search for brands and hope the info is accurate MFP might be better.

Sputnik · 24/02/2016 11:24

I live outside the UK so all the branded stuff is useless for me, that may explain why I never got why everyone on here loves MFP, hadn't thought of that!

yumyumpoppycat · 24/02/2016 11:39

Ahhh , so for you having to scroll through loads of branded items to find the generic one is a waste of time!

{Sigh} My search for the perfect calorie tracker continues ;) At some stage soon nutritional info linking to MFP or some other app will all be be a lot more accurate I reckon.

Sputnik · 24/02/2016 12:16

If you go to Google and enter eg: chick peas nutrition you get a box on the right with all the values. You can check basic ingredients there.

Once you have the things you often eat and add a few custom ones then I guess any calorie tracker gets easier after a bit.

littlbrowndog · 24/02/2016 13:21

Starting 6th week today. 4lbs off 2 stone loss
Upped exercise.
Tennis and aiming for 120000 steps a day. Don't always get there though
I do add spices to everything. A lot of chilli
Sainsburys has a special magazine in store called fresh for £2.50. It has loads of recipes we can use. Recipes with cauli rice and courgetti. I am having fish and prawn tagine from it tonight
I also use black beans instead of chick peas as I like the taste more
Just got to keep going although weight loss has slowed but my sis really noticed yesterday. Which was heartening !!

yumyumpoppycat · 24/02/2016 13:48

I think that's why I will end up sticking with battery draining MFP sputnik all my faves are already there.

Well done on great weightloss plus NSV littlebrowndog.

Just need my period to start now, its taking for EVER, I just know once its started 800 will become easier again. Currently I have pretty much no calories left today GAH!

Obs2016 · 24/02/2016 13:51

well done Browndog.

Eggsandketchup · 24/02/2016 13:54

I'm about a quarter of the way through this book, but I'm convinced I need to try this. I don't have diabetes (that I know of anyway) but I do have almost 4 stone to lose to be in the healthy weight range. I'm always tired, always craving carbs or chocolate - I just need to get my shit together basically and shift this weight.

I've recently lost 2 stone already by the way, but I've stalled. Gonna go and read the rest of the thread now.

Elvish · 24/02/2016 15:18

Well done Browndog I'm finding all your losses really inspiring.

Just having my afternoon sugar craving. I'm not hungry, but I usually indulge myself and have some chocolate or something at this time of day. Just refilled my water bottle and I'm going to ignore it instead!

Does anyone have any good packed lunch ideas to share?

lrb978 · 24/02/2016 16:19

Well done browndog, that's fantastic SV and NSV.

Elvish, fairly boring here but I tend to do a salad with protein. So this week approx 60g baby spinach leaves, 80g cucumber, 100g tomatoes with a tablespoon of balsamic vinegar, then one day I had half a ball of mozzarella and some smoked salmon, the other day half a ball of mozzarella and some tuna with a tablespoon of mayo. Tomorrow will be similar but some feta instead of the mozzarella. Another for me is cold frittata, veg per your choice.

Me too yumyum. Bloated (who needs a belt), tearful and serious munchies today Sad. Will be over 800 by tonight I suspect, but maintaining the low carb, so hopefully not too much damage in the long run. Cheese and onion omelette with spinach and peppers for brunch, sausage and cauli cheese for tea. The cauli cheese will bump my carbs up, but hopefully not too much, however it means I will have eaten sensibly rather than resorting to take aways / crap lying around the house which would have been carb laden. Roll on the weekend.

yumyumpoppycat · 24/02/2016 17:13

Well done LRB on sticking to the low carbs but relaxing the cals - I need to do that approach tomorrow.

Elvish · 24/02/2016 17:18

Oh dear, I've just been told that tomorrow is "Employee Motivation Day" in the office and a pizza lunch has been ordered for everyone.

I'm not sure how I can cope with watching everyone else eat pizza and the office smelling of melted cheese EnvySad

I can't even have one slice can I? I may have to go out to do some urgent errands Sad

mootime · 24/02/2016 17:23

Hi all,
Doing really well BSD 5:2ing. But would quite like to up the number of 800 cal days I do.
My problem is that on fast days I go without anything until supper but I tried to do that for the 3rd day in a row today and I went quite peculiar.
However if I eat anything during the day it really sparks my appetite and I struggle for the rest of the day. I know that if I eek the 800 cals over 3 meals I would be climbing the walls in between.

Does anyone else struggle with this element of the diet?

mootime · 24/02/2016 17:24

Elvish could you just pick some of the toppings off?? I worked in a pizza restaurant years ago when o was on Atkins and I used to do that for my staff meal Hmm

yumyumpoppycat · 24/02/2016 17:27

Mootime what about a late lunch and early dinner. At first I was fine with the cals and found it a challenge but struggling a little at mo but think its a blip.

mootime · 24/02/2016 17:29

Lrb - cauliflower cheese needn't up your carbs too much. You could melt cream cheese and grated cheese as the sauce instead of a traditional white sauce.

Browndog nearly 2 stone in 6 weeks is amazing !

mootime · 24/02/2016 17:31

Thanks yummy, DH is never home from work til 7 so early dinner is really tricky if I want to eat with him. And if I eat with the kids it's going to be impossible!!

I may try a planned late lunch though as its about 2 that I start to feel peculiar and if I'm prepared for it maybe it will be easier to deal with.

It may also be that I've upped my excersize at the same time which made me wobble today.
