They are really straight forward but much more effective if you get your posture right and engage your core. It's easier to keep an eye on that without weights. Just keep tension in your arms to replace the weights.

I got weights from Sports Direct dirt cheap - I went for 1.5kg. I wouldn't recommend tins - they'd slip out of sweaty hands too easily! Water bottles would be ok.

It's fast paced so it's a good idea to get used the moves first and really make sure you're getting the poses right - I know I've injured myself a bit in the past by not realising it's your butt that should be sticking out rather than knees for squats etc. Jillian does good instructions though.

When you get to level 3 there's one move you really need proper dumbbells for (plank with arm and leg raises) and one which you might want a heavier weight (forgotten what its called but you're only using one weight). Plenty of time to sort that out Smile

Inspired by you all to shred on a fast day; it was fine. Told myself I could always have scrambled egg after if I needed to and actually found it easier than usual!

Using 5lb weights which is 2.2kg apart from dreaded side lunges when I use 4lb. It's quite hard to 'bulk up' so I use heaviest weights I can for the reps and it doesn't make me bulky; only lifting super heavy weights for short bursts at capacity like a weight lifter makes me have muscles.
Think a lot of women are scared of weights but my ex gym lady educated me on it all and now I go for it!

Forgot to say had fab results with shred before DS was born and so looking forward to getting my body back - got a suitcase of clothes waiting after 3 years for me!

Just finished L1 D10 of 30 day shred. I made the mistake of looking ahead at level 2 and scared myself. I really want to keep the momentum going now that I have started this.

if it helps to know.... I lost 7 inches of flab from chest, waist, gut, hips and thighs from the 30 day shred I'm now on day 20 of round two.

Thought I would try L3 just to see if I could do it. Oh. My. Gosh. The combination of cardio and weights were a killer. I could not do all the moves (even without hand weights) and I kept having to stop and rewind because I found the coordination hard. But... I got through it.

L1D3 - I was reluctant this morning thanks to lack of sleep, achiness (from Shredding!) and being post fast BUT I've done it and I didn't 'phone it in' as Jillian warns us against!

I always always do extra stretches after - the cool down has definitely been skimped on to keep it within 20mins.

I've started exercising in shorts and sports bra. It's pretty depressing being able to see all the post-kids and post weight loss slack skin but also very motivating - and at least there isn't so much fat left under than skin :) My tummy and thighs are a bit of a mess though. I'm hoping that the slow weight loss and continual exercise will mean that in a year's time it won't look so bad, it's all looking a bit 'old lady' at the moment (with apologies to all the fit and toned 'old ladies' out there!).

notastired great to see you've been noticing the results already! I can't remember if I got up to L3 last time or whether I quit at level2 like HairyP. I know that I only got around to doing Killer Buns and Thighs once! Some very tricky stuff on there. I guess that's when going out for a run just seemed like the easier option Wink

Just purchased on Amazon for £5, am weirdly looking forward to starting it (I hate exercise) Bring on the shredding!

Well done Betsy for actually shredding this morning. It's very easy just to skip it, isn't it? But you didn't so that is a big plus.

At least you still don't have a lot of fat under the loose skin. I still have loads of fat. I often wonder what I would look like and what I would weigh and what size dress I would wear if I lost the fat to a healthy level.

Anyway, I'm absolutely positive that you will get the body you want. Smile

notastired It's funny, I've never desired a particular sort of body before - mostly I've felt that if I look ok in clothes and my face is pretty enough then that'll do. But, now, I see that it is an option, I can choose to have the healthy body I want! I can change bits of it and I know how to do it. I feel like I've unlocked one of life's secrets.

I think, to a lesser extent, I've realised my reasonably pretty features will and are fading, and there's bugger all I can do about that (and I don't mind getting older, I have no issues with that) but I can change the body and I can be healthier and fitter than I ever was in my 20s!

monster It's terrifying! But it works Grin!

Grin at monster. Yup, she'll do that to you. I like it when she says at the end, something like you've completed level one and you're on your way to being shredded.

VVV She's just very firm about what you need to do. It is hard work but it is only for 20 minutes and you can do anything for 20 minutes :)
