Starting off a new thread for 2025 now that both organisations have opened applications for next season!

Does anyone know where I can find the dates for BYMT if successful in the auditions?

The NYMT website jas dates on but could not find this information for BYMT

Does anyone know where the February dates would be if we were to get that far?

Does anyone know anything about the BYMT summer courses? They seem to be open to everyone without auditioning.

Yes they have been open to anyone for as long as I can remember. You don’t need to audition for them at all.

dd really enjoyed her first NYMT audition today. Really positive experience just crossing fingers now.

Ds wasn’t recovered on time so his audition was rescheduled. 1 down lol

BYMT work a little differently, in that their auditions are looking for performers who meet a certain standard. They may not have completely decided on their season yet and they will allocate performers to projects later. They have a repertoire of shows that belong to them so they don't need as much time to obtain licences etc. Keep en eye on their website as they tend to add shows as they go depending on numbers auditioned and offered places..NYMT decide their season well in advance, and the casting weekend will specifically look to fill roles for those particular shows and the new musical workshops. This means if you audition with NYMT you will know by late Feb whether you have a show, a workshop or a course and crucially you will have dates. With BYMT the first offers for shows usually come out in March but it seems there is some shuffling between shows and a waiting list that keeps moving up until about May. The upside of that though is that if you're offered dates you can't do you may be able to switch to another project - possible although less likely with NYMT as they are casting for specific shows.

@Mcmumager did you find it easy to get a new audition slot for ds. I’ve been told that we can get one but not heard if we can get the one we prefer as yet and don’t have a definite audition slot so to speak. I know it’s only yesterday but just a bit worried!

He asked for it to be moved to a certain venue and it’s been processed but he messaged on Saturday.

did you specify where you wanted to move to?

Yes- I’ll give it until tomorrow I think then ask again. We do want a particular venue.

Glad the Manchester crew enjoyed their day! Mine is now of the age where I no longer have the power... They applied, and they get the emails.

I'm not going to lie, results day is going to be ten times harder than usual!!

Mine is booked in to a London date in a couple of weeks. Who knows what they'll get in response to their audition as NYMT completely surprise me every year! It's never what I think it might be...

By the way, I asked all the same questions about BMYT vs. NYMT when I came across this forum. It's totally the norm don't worry! I got a variety of responses, some private and some on the thread. There are pros and cons really - if you're looking for principal roles (e.g. you're auditioning for drama school and want something big) then your problem is BYMT don't cast the show till much later, they just tell you which show. So you could get there to rehearse then not get what you'd hoped - where as NYMT you know from the start when they offer. However, they do generally have more shows and locations so chances are generally a bit better...

Mine did audition for BYMT the following year as well as NYMT but by then they'd already done a wonderful show with NYMT and nothing would sway them - but they did get offers of two shows with BYMT (when the first clashed they offered another later). We know people who have done N then gone on and done B and had a great time!

Equally, bear in mind that getting in one year means nothing for the next year in NYMT as they cast for their programme for that year. We knew people with a big part one year and the next didn't even get a recall. We also know people who tried for 4 years to get nothing - then got the lead role, so works both ways! Not sure if that's quite the same with BYMT as they choose their shows knowing who they have...

When is results day? Seems for BYMT you need to keep your summer free as dates are not known yet

We are still not back at school due to weather here so needed the boost of knowing the audition date!

Sorry another newbie question - so if you are refreshing already… but my dd audition isn’t until the start of Feb…they don’t send all recalls etc out at the same time? :) Good luck with your refreshing :)

Hi @ZooKeeper123 ! We usually hear about whether or not they have a recall within a week. Sometimes it's a couple of days longer depending on how busy the team are. But in past years it's been anything from the Tuesday evening up to about 10 days (apart from 2020 which was excruciating!!)
