Starting off a new thread for 2025 now that both organisations have opened applications for next season!

Do they also contact you to let you know they wasn't successful or do they just not bother getting back to you and only contact the ones they've picked
Thanks all it's the very first time my granddaughter has auditioned for NYMT

They always respond so if you haven’t heard it’s most likely your response has just gone astray or there is some admin mix up. Absolutely email them for confirmation.

Truetoself · 22/02/2025 10:30

@Mariaamariaa they let you know either way

@Kittykat57 oh that's so tough for your DS. Sorry yo hear

Thankd for all the input re: ensemble

@Biscuitsneeded remember it was ky DD that sacrificed her ski trips for the recalls? She is absolutely thrilled and committed so I will definitely spend the money

Kittykat57 · 22/02/2025 10:47

@doesanybodyhaveamap

@Truetoself It really does! However he is
pleased to still be part of the NYMT family and looking forward to Everyday.
Is it normal practice for a new musical workshop to be based on an existing book/film? I thought they were all individual creations from new writers?
On another note now we can book that summer holiday and we will be looking for other MT opportunities. Any recommendations for residential courses similar to NYMT if possible please? If that even exists 😘

Lionelblair · 22/02/2025 10:55

So helpful to hear previous experiences of nymt in different roles/ensemble etc. it is hard for our DC’s to experience a reality check, especially when they are likely to be super passionate about performing and have big dreams. I know my DS had eyes on a big prize (centre stage, lead role…😂) but the reality of a smaller role at 15 in a full production we know is a really brilliant achievement and a big prize! I know he’ll have an absolute blast and incredible training. It’s a true reflection of the world they’re hoping to enter and it all feels quite tough so far- highs and lows for all involved- including us!

Mariaamariaa · 22/02/2025 10:58

Hi thank you
Do they respond rejections on the same day as offers
Many thanks

doesanybodyhaveamap · 22/02/2025 11:02

Hi @Mariaamariaa yes they've all gone out. Occasionally a couple of people get missed (we've had that happen) so at this point if you've checked your junk mail I'd drop them an email.

Of course! In that case I'm delighted her sacrifice paid off. Sorry, there are so many DC to keep track of - huge congrats to her. If performing is her thing and what she wants to do with her life then she is absolutely in the right place. Chuck a rock in the West End and you'll hit an NYMT alumnus. And being in Fame with older kids who may well be in post 18 vocational training will mean she can ask all the questions she wants and get a clear idea of where she wants to head and how to go about it.

Lionelblair · 22/02/2025 11:38

on a practical note: does anyone know the likely drop off time for the Easter rehearsals?

boysmuminherts · 22/02/2025 11:39

The workshops my son was offered yesterday now seem to be all booked! So it is very popular!!

Ah LB is an amazing show tho! I am super curious to know what role he got - dm if you prefer. This nosey mumsnetter is nosey 😂

Scotbean · 22/02/2025 11:59

Anyone know if it’s possible to ask for feedback? One of the disappointed ones here from a daughter who yes is in professional training at one of those top schools lol. Reality check! Was first year she had ever applied though. Offered ‘advanced skills course’ which she did turn down because we already pay a lot for top up fees for her course and it wasn’t actually a show

Usually 10.45 for 11am.

Mariaamariaa · 22/02/2025 12:47

Thanks everyone I will email them directly
Good luck to all who were successful and best wishes to those who weren't this year try try again xx

Truetoself · 22/02/2025 13:25

@Scotbean on one of the Q and A sessions they said they can't give individual feedback. However, that was before auditions started. They may feel differently after the recalls. They said the reality of most auditions is that you don't hear back at all!

However, in your DD's case I am fairly sure it was because they couldn't find a suitable role for her or for the roles she was suitable for, maybe there was someone more suited.

You absolutely know your DD is talented as she was chosen to go to a performing arts school which is through competitive entry.

EweCee · 22/02/2025 14:33

Congrats to all those with offers for a show or new musical workshop!! I want to buy tickets to go see some of the shows now even though DD didn't get one this year - cant wait to see all your talented kids on stage!

For those in the know, can you advise whether an 'advanced skills course' different to an 'invitation only Skills course?

seventwelve25 · 22/02/2025 15:11

Congratulations to everyone! DD has come round to the idea of a new musical workshop and getting very excited and I think I'm actually relieved that she won't be away for quite so long at the age of 12!
For those who have mentioned cost and the fact that this kind of experience is never a cheap thing, can we maybe share ideas for fundraising?! My dd is lucky enough to have a brother who is 5 years younger than her and so she's had the idea to hold holiday activity days for his friends - and full day of fully planned activities all run by her (and overseen by me!) At a tenner a head. I think it's a fab idea! Any other inspiration out there?? X

So resourceful of your DD!! Well done to her and the fundraising sounds great!! My DD was a bake sale girlie when little! What new musical is your DD in? My DS 13 will be in Letty Pegg

SummerTheatre · 22/02/2025 15:48

Does anyone have any experience of the Residential Advanced Skills courses. My child has previously been in a show but has been offered this course this year so not too sure about it. Is it for younger member or older members?

Bless her, what a great idea. One year my DS and his local friend from Stagecoach were both cast in an NYMT show. Their Stagecoach said they could do a book sale which we raided all our houses for and they raised more than £300 between them. The Stagecoach Principal also donated a week's holiday course which they raffled. A few parents were kind and just threw in a fiver while buying books.

betswina · 22/02/2025 15:55

Thank you all - as my daughter is a newbie to NYMT/BYMT auditions this year, I have found all your comments really helpful and supportive. She has loved the auditions and met lots of friendly and talented young people. She was fortunate to be offered 3 options for NYMT skills courses yesterday, and is really keen to go on one. I'm wondering if they are completely booked out already, as only one comes up as an option through the link (and it's an Easter one that she was always N/A for). Is that possible? I am hoping there is something wrong with my link!! I have emailed NYMT back, but now it's the weekend and so just a bit worried that she is going to have a disappointment after all...

Yes it’s normal. Armchair which began as a new musical workshop then became a full production, then went back to workshop was based on a book. The composer/writer had to get the rights from the original author.

I think its that they are booked up as we had an email inviting to 3, clicked the link and only 2 were in drop down (I emailed NYMT then but no answer obviously as weekend) but now only 1 comes up, also the Easter residential ' so it looks like the other 2 booked up quickly (and the non residential one immediately!). Yikes - as newbies looks like we're too slow off the mark and will be better prepared for next year!

My DD will be doing The Unstoppable Letty Pegg too! Dm me if you'd like to chat and perhaps they can also chat beforehand! Has your DD taken part before?

Ooh some sort of sale sounds like a good idea too! I'd actually be quite keen to get rid of some of the many books gathering dust in her room!

Mariaamariaa · 22/02/2025 19:51

Hi please don't be too disappointed
This is the first time my 12 year old granddaughter has auditioned for NYMT and had a castings recall for New Musicals which I am yet to receive an email as to whether she has an offer or not
Quite concerning as according to this thread asl participants received either an offer or rejection yesterday.
OK, so the productions are going to be taking place at Birmingham Hippodrome Theatre, however, they will be taking place in the Patrick Studio which is also used for Birmingham local theatre school productions and not the main stage .

Please keep your spirits up being rejected is not the end it's just the beginning
Good luck and best wishes
