Starting off a new thread for 2025 now that both organisations have opened applications for next season!

They've been sending recall materials out just now, argh! By which I mean materials for those who already know they have recalls...

Yes, we received the recall texts etc this evening.

My DD's first experience with BYMT was a summer residential and she loved it! Its very similar to the main shows, the main difference being that it is 1 week not 2, and ends with a sharing of work which will be approx 30 mins instead of a full length show. The groups are a bit smaller as well at camp. When my DD did camp there were 20 or so kids, whereas the show groups have been more like 30.

Like the main BYMT shows the material will be a new workshop and the main thing they are looking for is creativity as the roles are very much in development. The camps will all have a Director, MD and a Choreographer all working to develop the piece but there is no technical crew or band. Like the main BYMT shows days are long and busy! Lots to do in a very short space of time, but there is no pressue and they will make sure everyone is placed in a role that they are comfortable with.

If you take part in a BYMT camp then you will also be invited to take part in the Christmas Concert at Shoreditch Town Hall. Usually this is the first Sunday of December. It certainly not compulsorary to attend, but if you can do so then it is a really enjoyable experience. All the camps get to do a selection of material from their project at the winter concert, and everyone from camps and shows sing in the ensemble numbers - so there is a larger performance opportunity available from being part of a camp.

Wishing everyone peace and luck waiting! I am terrible at waiting! So you don’t hear parts they consider you for after the first audition? Only the productions/workshops? Do you only hear about parts considered with recall material?

Recall material received! I’m assuming material has been sent out to those with recalls on the Saturday. No parts specified, you’re encouraged to prepare one song and script of own choosing from selection given alongside specified material for everyone. Roles I think must be cast following this process. Letter is very clear the casting workshops are auditions with several outcomes as already outlined in this thread. One outcome is a role but could also be new musicals and advanced training residential. Hope everyone hears outcomes they’re waiting for today.

From this past Saturday auditions do they only email in the evenings is it worth me keeping an eye out during the day? I am assuming we get an email to say something even if it’s a not being recalled?

You'll definitely hear either way, don't worry. I think the emails tend to come late afternoon or evening but I guess that just depends on the availability of whoever is sending them! NYMT is a lean outfit and everyone with a role there is juggling other industry jobs - sadly they don't have a large team of admin staff because what we as parents pay goes on the productions, the pastoral care, the creative expertise, the bed and board etc. It's why you can't really just pick up a phone and speak to someone 24/7 because they might well be directing a West End show or choreographing a national tour - but they will get back to everyone! (Of course during residentials the pastoral emergency line is constantly monitored, don't worry!)

"Let it Snow" (The Winter Show) Its a really good chance to show work in front a wider audience. Whilst the kids are kept together in their casts/camps for chaperoning purposes they all socialise regardless of if a camp or a cast kid and they all have the same performance times and opportunities.

Emails are out. DC recalled for Fame and Lightning Boy! Surprising as dance isn't their strong point.....! Good luck everyone!

Does make me laugh - mine IS a dancer but never gets recalled for dance based shows, others are not dancers and do 😅It adds to my theory that I will never ever understand the NYMT casting process 😆
