Starting off a new thread for 2025 now that both organisations have opened applications for next season!

Oh brilliant! Congratulations to him! We got Sunday. I’ve emailed asking if we can change to the Saturday if at all possible because there are basically no trains on a Sunday from up north and obviously he’s supposed to be in college on the Monday and Tuesday

He got Monday and is at college all day . Congratulations to your ds too- wishing them both loads of luck!!

DD is gutted, offer of a skills workshop but no information to be found! She’s now going to try for BYMT. Here’s hoping!!

It’s so very tough but even tougher as a girl. I know of talented people already training at well respected colleges who also haven’t been recalled. I always think things happen for a reason. My ds was cast in NYMT but then Covid hit and he didn’t get to do the show. The following year he didn’t get a recall- ended up doing BYMT and having one of the best experiences of his life. He was so disappointed after the no from NYMT he didn’t want to even apply but he wouldn’t swap the experience he had that year. Wishing your dd all the best - how old is she?

Montimom · 29/01/2025 23:23

Hi two happy campers here, DS for Tuck and Crescendo, and DD for Fame and Carousel. Fingers crossed it will go well for them

Congrats and commiserations to all who got emails. We’ve been on both sides and it’s really hard but they do bounce back and there’s always something else around the corner!

boysmuminherts · 29/01/2025 23:28

My DS heard this evening that he has a casting workshop for Crescendo. He sounded a bit disappointed, but I think this is a good thing?

LibbyRuncie · 30/01/2025 06:01

@Mcmumager we’re in Derbyshire too! Heading B’ham for our auditions fingers crossed!

Thanks! She’s 17 and applying for conservatoires etc next year so was hoping for the experience.

It is interesting to know what goes through people's minds when they cast someone. Obviously it is not based on takent alone as they have to fit the character ......

Truetoself · 30/01/2025 08:01

@boysmuminherts what was he hoping for?

It's a very good thing! How old is he? Cresendo is a great opportunity for early to mid teens especially. Well done to your DS.

Mumster40 · 30/01/2025 09:05

My niece has a recall for Tuck. She’s thrilled. Congratulations to everyone with recalls! Amazing news! Commiserations to those who haven’t got what they wanted this time. It’s very tough but kids are so brave and resilient. Now just have to get through first round for my DC this weekend….

Aah thank you. He is 13, almost 14 (Y9)

He's the ideal age for it. I understand he was possibly hoping for a named show, but when you're too big to play a child and too small to play an adult that's not always easy in the licensed, traditional shows. Crescendo (which I CAN spell - I just can't type!) was put in place in part to meet the needs of talented teens to whom NYMT wanted to give a vehicle. I saw last year's Crescendo (and @Montimom will back me up here because her DD was in it!) and it was really great. Every young person got their moment to shine and be centre stage, and they had so much input into the show - it was all about their own ideas. I don't know what's planned for this year's Crescendo but I would advise your DS to go along to the casting session and find out more, have another enjoyable time (hopefully!) and see what happens...

Montimom · 30/01/2025 11:08

@boysmuminherts 100% agree with @Biscuitsneeded Crescendo was an incredible experience last year!! My DD absolutely loved it and they had so much input into the creative side of it, their ideas, song choices were all incorporated. Beautiful duos, trios and group performances. Honestly I think it was one of our NYMT highlights over the past few years!!

MxPickles · 30/01/2025 17:08

Logged on to see the latest and wow... loads of good news! Well done everyone.

Also sorry to those who didn't get what they hoped for this time around- we've definitley been there many times before x

Also... is there anyone who did the workshop for lightning boy last year able to give me the heads up on what roles there are for younger females? DM if you prefer x

Hi @MxPickles , my DS did the Lightning Boy workshop. He said there are lots of little parts for the younger ones, plus Hermes is a main role that was a younger girl in the workshop. Feel free to message if you want anymore info x

Bit worried with all the amazing news of so many people getting call backs that all the castings will be gone by the time DD auditions this Sunday! 🤦‍♀️

when are the call backs? Last year it was a Saturday which was fine but am I hearing that it could be a week day too???

It doesn't work like that! Don't worry at all - they are even doing 4 days of recalls instead of 2 this year! If they offer Mon/Tue and you can't make it work just ask to swap - they will make it work and have for everyone I know who's had to ask before.

Congratulations and commiserations to everyone who has updated! I'm sorry for those who didn't get offered the casting days, I hope they still enjoyed the day and might try again. In my kid's first year the lead had tried 5 times and had 4 nos - before landing the lead! And every other story inbetween - you are not alone.

@Operasingerkath total opposite recalls for our two then! The two I thought mine might get - I will never understand how these things work 😅

Absolutely agree. They have swapped us from Sunday to Saturday with no issues at all. They’re always so helpful.

And I know @allhailthebrain , who can reason why! I thought mine might have got Carousel but he’s impressed himself getting Fame 😂

Don't worry, I'm sure they keep a careful total of the recalls offered for each show so they still have spaces left by the last few auditions.

The recalls are Sat 15th - Tues 18th Feb. If that's not your DD's half term and she gets a recall I'm sure you can ask for a weekend slot.

Break a leg to everyone auditioning this weekend!

seventwelve25 · 01/02/2025 07:22

Hi All, new here so hope this is the right place! Dd has a recall audition in London. Massive deal for us as it was her first time auditioning (12yo) and we live way up North.
For those with experience, can I ask, now at the recall stage, what are the chances of success being cast and if they're not cast, what options would there be?
Thank you!

Hello fellow northerner and welcome! I can only tell you about our experience, but I’m sure someone more knowledgeable will be along soon. My DS auditioned for the first time in 2023. He had 2 callbacks for full shows and got into one of them. Last year, under the new leadership structure, he had 2 callbacks for full shows and got a new musical workshop. We knew of people last year that got cast in shows they weren’t called back for, including Crescendo and Platform and full shows, or given advanced skills workshops.

This time he has 2 callbacks for full shows. I’m not sure if it will be the same thing at the recalls this year as there seems to be some more specific callbacks this time. In any event, massive congratulations on the recall! It seems that they will all be offered something
