So, with BYMT auditions already underway and NYMT open for booking, it's surely time for a 2022 thread?? Who's in?

Submitted DD's NYMT actor self-tape and booked her audition today, eek! Need to also get her musician audition recorded this side of Christmas as we go on hols on 27th and she's back to school on 4/5th (PCR dependent 🙈)

@Montimom

It’s great to have the breathing space, mentally filed away till next Monday when I will once again have repetitive strain injury from refreshing my inbox Grin
@Montimom in previous years do they send you your three results in quick succession, or do you have an agonising wait in between...??

Montimom · 03/03/2022 08:12

@doesanybodyhaveamap there can be a gap between them do it’s not like they come one after the other, but it’s not too long between them

Triflefan · 03/03/2022 09:54

Good luck to your DD @doesanybodyhaveamap

@minimits , I'm pleased we have a date to aim for so I now won't ask DS until Monday afternoon to check.
Thankfully all uni/drama school stuff goes into his college inbox which he gets alerts for. I wish he'd used that address for NYMT so I didn't have to nag!

@montimum I'm crossing my fingers for 3 emails in quick succession for you!

Biscuitsneeded · 03/03/2022 10:16

@Triflefan I feel your pain. These boys who want total independence but then are so laid back they never check their diaries or their email are quite stressful to live with, aren't they? DS will be very tuned in for NYMT news, I hope, so that's one thing I won't have to nag about, but there's plenty more and it's exhausting!

Triflefan · 03/03/2022 11:01

@Biscuitsneeded
Yes! Incredibly so!
I guess he's had lots on and has mocks this week too. He firmly told me 'They said 2 weeks!' so I expect he'll be refreshing emails regularly from Monday

Biscuitsneeded · 03/03/2022 11:04

Thing is all the kids were told different things! Saturday recallees were told end of the week immediately following recalls, mine on Sunday was told not this week but probably next, and others were told 2 weeks! I'm just glad they tweeted and we could come off high alert until next week now!

doesanybodyhaveamap · 03/03/2022 11:25

Ever the eternal optimist (and Uber impatient...) I also can't help interpreting 'BY early next week' and 'you won't all hear on the same day' as meaning any time from the end of this week 😂

Alakazam8 · 03/03/2022 15:23

I’ve heard from a reliable source this morning that it will be Monday or Tuesday next week for the emails. So don’t worry if your dc don’t hear on Monday…

Alakazam8 · 04/03/2022 11:46

Just out of interest before the emails come through next week, do any of you stay in the area where dc are. Was thinking as dd is young I would stay while she is there- if she does get in this year of course!

Biscuitsneeded · 04/03/2022 12:14

Usually the pastoral team tend to discourage parents staying locally as if the DC struggle with homesickness it can make it worse knowing mum or dad is just down the road. I promise they really do look after them very well. When DS first went he had just turned 11. He was actually fine, but his roommate struggled at bedtime so the pastoral staff really looked out for them to keep him buoyant and distracted. They sent us photos of the boys making chocolate mug cakes before bed, for example. Quite honestly they are busy all day and most of the evening, 9 - 9 effectively, so I'm not sure what time there would be for seeing parents unless there was a child who was really struggling. But if you feel your DC may struggle it's better for them to know that in advance, and maybe you can talk to them about what might be a good solution?

doesanybodyhaveamap · 04/03/2022 12:45

When my youngest went on a different residential DH and I stayed nearby but didn't tell her. So we knew we could get there quickly if she needed us, but she had no idea we were only a couple of miles away. She didn't need us of course! But we had a nice little holiday and worried a lot less.

OP posts:
Jamsanmum · 04/03/2022 20:18

@Alakazam8 i would say you would be wasting your time and money! Don’t. The pastoral team are brilliant. If your child is ill they will phone you and a decision will be made as to whether they can carry on. But if not ill, they won’t phone you and therefore you’ll be there for no reason ! If your child is terribly homesick they will phone you and you can reach a decision as to whether they carry on. However if this is very likely to be the case then it would be worth considering whether it’s right for them to do this time before accepting the place.
I can 100% vouch for the pastoral team as they are fantastic. The cast are soooo busy - and i defy any young performer to not have the absolute time of their lives - that you won’t get a look in! They bond in the most extraordinary way. The young cast of Henrietta last year have a group chat and msgs are flying literally every day. Still!

If you’re really worried about how they’ll cope - and they are as well - then it might not be quite the right thing for them. But if your child wants to go and isn’t worried - then you don’t need to worry either. My dd had the absolute best time of her life. She went at 12 - and previous two years suffered from significant anxiety (couldn’t get her to school half the time and was quite agoraphobic / under care of Cahms etc) - despite being socially gregarious and completely fine on stage. Those 3 weeks were the best three weeks of her life to date and taught her so much independence!!
I really hope this helps!!

Biscuitsneeded · 04/03/2022 21:09

Although I suppose, if it's the shorter Easter residential, if you live a long way from the venue there's an argument for just doing the journey there and back once, and staying somewhere in the area as a sort of mini-holiday!! I guess if you think that your child having a real struggle is a possibility and you live a long way away it could be useful. All DC are different, aren't they? I would say if you do stay locally, don't do anything like turn up to 'visit' unannounced, as that will cause safeguarding and pastoral headaches - but I'm sure you wouldn't do that and your concern is only to be relatively nearby in case of problems.

Alakazam8 · 05/03/2022 01:22

That was very much my idea. To treat it like a mini holiday. This might be a good idea for Easter I suppose. Have every intention of leaving dd to it completely, she needs her independence and the experience sounds a valuable part of it too. I’m not worried about her particularly and sure she’ll cope just wondered if it was something some parents did whilst the dc were there.

Biscuitsneeded · 05/03/2022 08:35

@Alakazam8 I know one family who did stay locally but I think it was more about finding some things to do with their younger child while the older was at residential, so as they had to make the journey anyway they had a mini holiday. There's quite a bit to see and do in that area (assuming the venue remains the same) and it's a change of scene if nothing else!

allhailthebrain · 05/03/2022 20:00

Just checking in...

I have Fiona's first song from Shrek playing in my head - the waiting, the waiting, the waaaaaiiiiiitiiiiiinnnnnggggggg Grin

I feel like it's 50/50 here so it's just a wait and see thing. Looking forward to a flurry of news on here soon...

Biscuitsneeded · 05/03/2022 22:16

It will certainly be a relief to know, whatever the news. Have BYMT given any indication of when the young people who auditioned can expect news? I seem to remember it always used to happen in March, not long after NYMT. I hope that all the DC on this thread will get some good news from somewhere very soon.

Coniger · 05/03/2022 23:36

Hi - we are very new to this and my dd has zero performance experience - dd did the zoom on the 6th for nymt / first time trying and to be honest only really understood how big it was when we googled afterwards - got a recall - I had covid and we had no power for two days and two night before the audition because of the storm and no 4g so couldn’t access backing tracks etc. she was recalled for a kiss for Cinderella and ragtime and we just had to tell her to go in, smile, don’t cry and make it up as she went along. She said everyone was amazing and the girl next door to her did five pirouettes and an Ariel when they were supposed to free style a bit so she just told us that she kept moving! She did say with Cinderella she was asked to sing again and I know they have watched the video on YouTube a couple more times but quite honestly she is only 11 with no experience at all so we and her are not expecting anything and since she was so shockingly underprepared I think we have to focus on next year now. Anyway the reason for the post is that my dd said she had the best time and reading this chat you really are such a supportive bunch of people! Good luck to everyone and I hope all your kids get good news next week x

Biscuitsneeded · 06/03/2022 08:16

Welcome @Coniger! You've found the right place to sit and wait for news. Sorry to hear your DD was suffering from lack of power and WiFi before the recall, but it sounds as if she managed to do an amazing job anyway! Good for her, for being brave. I hope she enjoyed her day in the end? Sounds like she did. I'm crossing my fingers for all the DC on this thread so shall add your DD. Hopefully not too long to wait for news now! If you have any questions in the meantime, fire away...

Thank you! I guess we will hear tomorrow but it’s good to have a waiting room 😀
Biscuitsneeded · 06/03/2022 08:50

Tomorrow or Tuesday I think. They seemed to be saying people would hear in batches.

Alakazam8 · 06/03/2022 11:31

Definitely tomorrow or Tues. I have One Day More going round in my head today! Dd isn’t bothered.
Welcome to the waiting room @Coniger. They do look for different talents, abilities, stages of training apparently so hopefully your dd won’t miss out due to problems with power. Did she mention it to them?
Off topic a bit but does anyone know if the current touring Joseph has the usual children’s choir and /or how long the rehearsal period usually is for this?

Jamsanmum · 06/03/2022 13:08

Good luck everyone for happy children this week. Its impossible to second guess yhis process … just have to hope our chdn are what they’re looking for this year. And of not, i guess there’s next year!!! 🤞🏻🤞🏻

doesanybodyhaveamap · 06/03/2022 16:49

Is it tomorrow yet....? Not sure what's worse, knowing it's definitely coming, or the constant 'will it be today' feeling 😬

allhailthebrain · 06/03/2022 20:06

@Coniger Welcome!

Sounds like your dd did the absolute best she could in the circumstances - and you don't get asked to sing again for no reason. Whatever happens, she's been noticed for the right reasons. The lead older girl in Henrietta last year has auditioned five times before she finally got in - as a principal! So you're right, it IS a big deal and she's done fantastically!

Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya (maybe) tomorrow...
