NYMT / BYMT 2021

Starting a new thread for NYMT / BYMT hopefuls in 2021.

DD13 is auditioning for NYMT for the second time as stage performer and as musician. We just received an invite to the next round (online workshops).

She was gutted that Covid put a stop to her show (Imaginary) last year so we are keeping everything crossed that she gets another shot.

We've also booked a BYMT audition and she's already in the musician pool there so hopefully a show of some sort this year if we get some kind of normality back again...

Anyone else out there?

@doesanybodyhaveamap sorry to hear you are having a negative wobble. Thanks for the explanation. It is a hard process anyway and if things are different this year it’s harder. It does seem a long wait and we only did our workshop in March, so goodness knows how it feels if you did your workshop in Jan!!

It's certainly odd. I can vouch for 6 years of NYMT being extremely well organised. I can only think that there are some things, maybe Covid-related, that may be out of their hands. I know we all desperately want these shows to happen this summer, and these companies are so brave for deciding to go ahead, and as far as we know the roadmap still looks good, but I can imagine that securing anything this year must be a bit of a logistical and financial nightmare. Perhaps there are a few things that are outside the casting process that still need tying up before they can move on. I'm going to try to forget all about it over Easter and hope for some news next week.

I'm holding off putting in my annual leave request for the summer holidays which is risky. I tried to go through all the different permutations of the shows for both NYMT and BYMT but gave up as it was too difficult and she might not get offered anything. I'll just have to sit tight and figure it out if needed when the emails eventually come

my head is a melting pot of the following:

  1. We have paid deposits on music courses for both DD's which are running during August. Balances are due imminently. I don't mind risking a deposit, but not several hundred pounds.

  2. Said music courses are in Suffolk. We are not anywhere near Suffolk. There will be logistical considerations of potentially having one child there and one child not.

3)There are a whole load of other things cropping up that we could be applying for - local opportunities and non-auditioned courses. With everyone so desperate to get back to it I'm worried DD will end up missing out if she doesn't get a stage performer role with either BYMT or NYMT and we can't then get her onto anything else because places have all been snapped up.

4)It's been a bloody long time since I've seen my own mum and dad! they live in a very popular tourist area and if we don't' book accommodation soon, we won't get any.

  1. She submitted her video audition on 4th January. That's very nearly 3 months ago.

oh and let's not forget that if they are successful, that's a big lot of money to find in not a lot of time!

@doesanybodyhaveamap yes we have a few auditions locally to filter in too. I don't want her to have another year of nothing. It's stressing me out. If it's a no I'd rather hear now and then we can move on to other things. Booking near holiday destinations must be a complete headache.

Just had an email from NYMT. It’s a no for us, which we were expecting, so DS is fine with that (I think he’d totally put it out of his mind!) Very best of luck to the rest of you - I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you all. We are in the North so may try and get tickets to Hunchback as that sounds like it will be epic! Thanks for your company in the waiting room!

Sorry its a no for your DS chuffedtolittlemintballs. Hope it was valuable experience for him. I am not getting my hopes up for my DD to be honest but she enjoyed the audition anyway. Did you audition quite early on? I am just wondering if they are letting people know in audition order? Hope your DS tries again another year. Xx

Thanks all. It was definitely a valuable experience and an enjoyable afternoon for him. @Thewaitingistorture, yes - his audition was on the very first day, I think, so it could well be in order of auditions and maybe the nos first?

No for DS. To say he is absolutely gutted would be an understatement. Makes not getting to do Kiss me Kate last year when he did actually get in even harder. He’s floored :(

Aw no guys so sorry, it's very tough especially as the format is so different this year. Some people including my dd I think are better in a room. Lots of hugs xx
We just had a no too, which was expected as we told them already that she had other commitments with BYMT and would only be available for 1 show with NYMT. I may have scuppered her chances, but I wanted to be honest as last year we didn't tell them she wasn't available the show she was recalled for, and so was put in the workshop instead.

@minimits so sorry for your DS. I especially hoped that all the young people that were offered parts last year but couldn’t do them would be given another opportunity this year. It must be really tough for him.

@Belshels sorry for your DD too. I’m glad she has a BYMT opportunity to look forward to.
