Hi
I thought I would start a new thread as the other one must be nearly full and I might have lots of questions as it is our first time!
My DD is in the U10s for 2018 and hopefully also in South Easterlies. I told my parents about her getting a place and they would like to come to her concert if possible (I understand that this is 11am on 19 August at Port Regis school) or have volunteered to look after my younger children instead if needed. Given my parents get booked up months in advance (they have a very active social life!) and Port Regis isn’t particularly near where we live so we might end up booking accommodation, then I wondered if anyone could let me know how this works:

  • do we get a limited number of tickets? I assume there must be some kind of limit.
  • would the concert be suitable for children (my younger DC will be 7 and 5 by then)?
Thanks very much.

Thanks chaps - had been repeatedly looking for the list but you lot finally alerted me !

Am sooo glad I waited as the boy whose mother I was about to cold-email about sharing isn't on it. Given what I know about his music I think it much more likely that they decided not to do it this year than that he didn't get in, but one doesn't want to put one's foot in it.

I am always surprised that more boys from Ds's school don't do NCO - there are quite a bunch of JD level players although I think some of them choose to do pro cordial instead.

TaggieOHara · 17/02/2018 19:55

Sadly - I have pulled DS2 out of southeasterlies tomorrow. He really isn't well enough. And it is a nasty bug, which I wouldn't like to spread! Oh well - he can join in later in the spring...

TrumpetVoluntary · 17/02/2018 20:49

Taggie - hope your DS2 is better soon. There seems to be lots of stuff going round.

Thanks trumpet. It's a shame I DS2 was looking forward to making new friends! Hope it goes well tomorrow and we're looking forward to joining in in April Smile

TrumpetVoluntary · 19/02/2018 23:00

Hope he is better now. DD looked terrified but afterwards said she enjoyed it and is very excited that they are doing the Sound of Music!
I spoke to some other U10 parents but don’t think I met anyone from here.

Sound of Music?? Really??? That's DS's favourite movie! We should have chosen SE!!

TrumpetVoluntary · 20/02/2018 09:20

Yes, a Sound of Music medley as well as various other pieces, including a new piece with the composer in attendance.
Hope your DS is playing some pieces that he likes even if not the Sound of Music.

Easterlies this coming weekend. I think we are the last Regionals to start? Anyone else going? I am hoping it is possible to leave half an hour early as DD has to be on stage at 6pm for a Theatre Train show. She will miss the dress rehearsal, so will wing it, although having done it three years, should be fine.

Nigglenotes · 20/02/2018 16:17

Oh, can anyone tell me if they will know where to sit, etc. Is it all pre organised..

Nigglenotes · 20/02/2018 16:21

Oh, does DD need money for cupcakes, and take her own stand?

Sorry, I guess there will be an email.

Wafflenose · 20/02/2018 16:28

Seats have stickers on, telling them where to go. Tiny ones tend to be buddied up with older ones, stronger players are placed throughout the sections and in both 1st and 2nd violins, and at ours, children who've made nationals usually play Woodwind 1 parts, even if they can't play all of it.

A bit of money for cake is optional (we take some). Squash and biscuits are provided. Yes to the music stand!

stringchild · 20/02/2018 16:42

hi Niggle - Northerlies also starting this sunday; def take a little money for you too. Whether parents can stay is venue dependant so you may or may not find yourself hunting out a coffee shop! Seating def pre-organised and can change between rehearsals (again dependant on which one/size etc of the sections). Fine - in our experience - to leave a little early if you tell them when you arrive

stringchild · 20/02/2018 16:43

and yes if you havent had an email, check with the office - there is always one for each orchestra before each rehearsal.

Nigglenotes · 20/02/2018 17:11

Thanks Waffle and String. Will be exciting for DD to finally get there!

WindMum · 20/02/2018 21:51

No cake at London juniors -wasn’t mentioned on our email, although previous members expected it! and no case stickers either! Name labels had been printed in alphabetical order and not in sections so took a long time to organise (I usually help with setting up). Teething troubles I suspect with the new staff. Hoping by Sunday it’s all running smooth for northerlies and Easterlies.

Siriusmuggle · 20/02/2018 22:38

I’ve just been to watch the boy in his county youth orchestra concert. He’s discovered that one of the girls in the orchestra is also in mains this year so he’ll know someone.

Pollymalex104 · 21/02/2018 21:01

Re Northerlies, if the RNCM cafe isn't open, the Museum and its cafe are just down the road - well worth a visit, particularly for the awesome sausage rolls!

Minimusiciansmama · 21/02/2018 22:16

Polly are you a Northerlies mum too? My little miss said today she can’t wait for Sunday to come, bless her!

Pollymalex104 · 21/02/2018 23:15

Minimusiciansmama - Yes, I am indeed a Northerlies Mum too. I am sure your daughter will love it! This will be our 3rd year; I can't believe how quickly the years fly by...

Minimusiciansmama · 26/02/2018 18:41

Well my little Northerlie absolutely LOVED her first rehearsal- despite arrive late because of awful traffic, being the youngest and her handrest falling off in the middle of the rehearsal! She had a fantastic day and was so proud of her little self. The student helper had been sat next to her and said to her that she’d done really well, so she came out super happy.

And I was brave and spoke to a mumsnetter in real life, ate yummy cake and had a nice time too! The start of something exciting for this little miss, I hope.

TaggieOHara · 26/02/2018 21:46

Well done mini and mini-mini! I hope someone from the thread talks to me when we finally make it to southeasterlies!

TrumpetVoluntary · 27/02/2018 09:27

Taggie - DD and I would be happy to talk to you and DS at Southeasterlies! I spoke to some other parents there last time and they seemed quite friendly too.
I just hope we get the music soon - she is keen to practise as it was difficult to sightread all of it last time!
Mini - glad your DD had such a great time.

Thank you Trumpet!

Radiodependent · 28/02/2018 19:58

Hello, ds is in Southeasterlies and we got a link to the music this afternoon. He won’t be able to get through it all by next rehearsal but we are trying to listen to it as much as poss and learn at least a couple of pages per day.

TrumpetVoluntary · 01/03/2018 09:18

Yes, we got the link to the music too. Lots of it isn’t included for copyright reasons though - am wondering how this will work as I assume they won’t have time to practise their parts separately in the rehearsals? I guess this is why they test sight-reading in the audition?!
