Our thread has got too big.

Iwill start this one with two things:

Positive vibes for the exciting developments on the MN Marathon Relay thread and

Early ballot for GNR 2010 - you know you want to:)

OP posts:

You are a true Iron woman Twink - brilliant, brilliant time! In awe of you as always

Good luck for your half marathon Master!

Anyone else got races coming up?

Orm, great description - I had one of those moments yesterday, running down a leafy country lane with the birds singing and the sun shining. It was fab.

Bet it comes back soon sfxmum!

liath · 22/06/2010 20:26

Well done Twink. Absolutely awesome effort. Can you move now ?

anonymummy · 23/06/2010 21:03

amazng twink

realise i am under a diff name but no energy to change
tis popsy

azazello · 23/06/2010 21:38

Wow Twink, that sounds amazing. Good luck to everyone doing races atm.

I've been on holiday but managed to do 5k every other day (until I got chased by a scary dog on the penultimate day which got out from under its gate - I now go faster when I hear barking!)

I did the Blenheim 10k a couple of weeks ago. I did it in a slower time than my last 10k - 63 minutes rather than 60 but I had the significant advantage of being able to run again afterwards instead of feeling as though all my muscles were pulled for weeks.

DH gave me a garmin as a wedding anniversary ppresent because I think he wanted it. It was wonderful and fab and really does make such a difference - being able to see how far and fast you go does help a lot.

hatwoman · 25/06/2010 22:35

blimey - so much going on since I last popped in. twink - well done - absolutely fantastic. orm glad to hear you had a lovely 6 miles. sfxmum - well done on finishing the exams - I didn;t know you were studying - what are you doing?

I've had a busy week work wise so haven't been out much. I went out on Sunday with dh - he hasn;t run since university. (he's very fit though - lots of cycling and climbing). he said he'd come "to keep me company" and then just ran off. When I (eventually) caught up with him I explained to him that normal etiquette, if you go for a run "with" somebody is that you do, actually, run with them. I'm always slow at the start though and after 5 miles I was getting in my stride (and he was knackered) - so I gave him a run for his money - and for the last mile I ran off and he couldn;t keep up.

Did a fell race last week. no prize this time. unless you count a smile and well done from a very nice looking gentleman I have bumped into a couple of times. he's a smooth scotsman who described me as "half-way there" (in a conversation about being scottish) "with your red hair and bonny face". some good-looking and charming strangers have a way of getting under your skin. . I'll shut up now.

Themasterandmargaritas · 27/06/2010 05:43

Haha at your dh Hattie.

Us Scots, we have a way with words don't you know.

I got back last night from my mammoth long distance drive, camp and run. I was pretty disappointed as mentally I just wasn't quite there this year. I started off at a great pace but hit a wall at about 12k and from there on in I ran and walked the hills. It was sooooo damn hot and sunny. Anyway I came in at 2.19 which was quicker than last year but not as quick as I can normally do. The best thing is, is that I raised a lot of money for my little charity.

So thanks to you all who supported me.

Wheelybug · 28/06/2010 20:15

Well done M&M - sounds to me like you did well. Despite our earlier joking, I do take my hat off to you running as you do in the temperatures that you do. I am finding it a struggle here at the moment with temps about 30.

Hat - LOL at smooth scotsman !

That said I was pleased with myself last week and managed in the gym a 6K and an 8K (gym is only partially air conditioned too) and then ran 5.4 miles sunday morning at about 7.20 to escape the heat... and also because I knew I'd be quaffing pimms all afternoon. Back in the gym tomorrow to sweat.......

sfxmum · 29/06/2010 10:37

hello all

M&M well done am still to sponsor you but have the link somewhere
that psychological aspect of running and racing has been bugging me lately, I suppose I should read more on the subject, I can think of one other reason for my lack of speed recently

hat - got to love the Scottish way, dh is half Scottish, mums side, it is all so dry
and galling DH's who get competitive are a pain

  • regarding study I decided that hitting 40 was the right time to start a degree I am a fool but a happy one in that regard, am doing stuff relating to Social Policy (fool fool)

have been dragging self about in the heat but at least have been going out regularly, it has been ok so far has humidity has been low but it all looks set to change

happy running all

sfxmum · 29/06/2010 10:39

as not has

hatwoman · 29/06/2010 21:46

I started a thread this morning about other things going on in my life. It ended up really quite amusing

Twink · 29/06/2010 22:39

Hat nearly PMSL!

M&M, many congrats, we can be in the sub 2.20 gang together! My official 3rd leg was 2.18 and no where near as hot as yours (sunburn on calves has now subsided, doh! did suncream shoulders, thighs and face..)

Wheely & SFX, good effort for even making it, I suspect lots of people are hiding behind the weather. Hmm, Pimms sounds fab, had my first of the season at Wimbledon last week (first ever visit, how 'English'!)

sfxmum · 30/06/2010 07:51

Hat that is the funniest thing I have read in ages love that you had a sketch of a cow avoidance plan
(glad you are ok)

Wheelybug · 30/06/2010 12:19

Great thread Hat ! Ooh that country place sounds a scarey place to be

GLad you are ok - maybe we could all add 'running away from cows' into our training plans as speed training (easier said than done around here).

MrsWednesday · 01/07/2010 00:02

I am crying with laughter - thanks so much for the link Hat, glad you didn't make it on to Look North.

Master, that is seriously impressive in heat, altitude and after camping too. I can barely run five miles along the flat canal this summer!

Have only managed one run this week, down by the river where I ate a lot of flies (must learn to run with my mouth shut).

MoshiMoshi · 01/07/2010 21:58

master - well done!
Twink - I hope you are still glowing with pride at your achievement as you should be!
hat - very pleased you are running smoothly and with your "feelers" out too (tee hee!)

Quick post to wish you all happy running. I am back in action and have been Bootcamping and running on alternate days and feeling strong again. Entered a little 5K Race For Life in Hammersmith next week to do
something positive for some people who I know are going through cancer treatment. Also entered the London Duathlon and probably will sign up for the Kingston Breakfast Run. Anyone like to join me? I am also looking for one of those muddy runs to enter where I will instantly regret it and yearn for the hard Tarmac of the road but am sure it will be better for my joints. Anyway, have to do something if I am going to get up to marathon distance by next year!

Stop press: I am off for the interment of dad's ashes tomorrow :_{. However, after that I am off for a weekend of riding beautiful thoroughbreds in Devon. Equine therapy to sort me out! Madly organising the children before I go at sparrowfart tomorrow.

Wheelybug · 01/07/2010 22:46

Hope all goes well tomorrow Moshi. Am looking at Kingston breakfast run for March not October (forgotten where you are but you're round here somewhere aren't you ?? Sheen ? Or is that SFX ?) . DH was going to do October but its the same weekend as my bro's 40th. Have also promised to do the next BMF muddy run type thing with a friend who is a BMF-er.

hatwoman · 01/07/2010 23:08

moshi - I hope the day goes well. and I hope you have a good time riding - I'm sure equine therapy is very good.

I've done the kingston race a few times - used to live about 5 mins walk from the start. would love to do it again and meet some of you, but unfortunately we're now a good 3-4 hours away. it's a good race - good mixture of people, well organised, some nice bits along the river.

Twink · 02/07/2010 06:40

Be thinking of you today Moshi. MiniT and I popped in to check MrT's tree yesterday, it does help a little bit.

I thoroughly recommend the Rough and Tumble held in deepest Wiltshire & would happily host any willing victims participants. Check out those cakes!!

sfxmum · 02/07/2010 10:46

Moshi hope it all goes as well a possible

Kingston run has been a possible for a while lets see

not much running here since Tuesday, awful cold but improving

happy running all

Themasterandmargaritas · 02/07/2010 18:47

I hope it went well today Moshi Enjoy your break, sounds lovely.

I went out for a 10k run today with a stinking cold and it was pretty hard work especially since I was with a super fast friend. We managed 56 mins but it felt like a plod!

Goldberry · 03/07/2010 07:41

Get better soon, those with colds. My dc have just caught one, so I guess I won't be far behind. Am really pleased - I've planned a program of steady increase in running time so that I can manage the 10k at the end of September. Having only done 30 mins for about a year, I'm now easily doing 40.
Odd question: I breathe really heavily when I run (sound like a panting labrador ), even before I get tired. Someone told me you should always try to breathe in through your nose, but I find it hard to do this. Are you all nose breathers when you run?

Themasterandmargaritas · 03/07/2010 14:08

Oooo I was just thinking about breathing yesterday. No to the nose breathing, I am a heavy breather type too, mouth open catching flies.

sfxmum · 03/07/2010 16:28

breathing - I think I breathe in through nose out through mouth as whenever I have a blocked nose my throat gets very dry and I always feel like I am catching up and out of breath
but then again mouth is always slightly open also no idea what I sound like as music is always loud

hope to go for run with dh tomorrow need a pacer for speed this snail pace cannot continue

HighFibreDiet · 04/07/2010 09:53

Hi everyone, haven't been around for a while and it seems like lots has been going on. I am particularly impressed with Twink's Ironman - my sprint tri at the end of August is enough of a challenge for me. And lol at hatwoman's dh. I would be pretty pissed off if dp came for a run with me and just buggered off (but equally pleased if I passed him at the end).

I have a small success to celebrate - I did the Thames Turbo aquathlon at the end of June (5k run, 400m swim) and my 5k was 27:48 which is a pb! My swim was very slow as I felt knackered, but that's by the by. I felt very nervous before the race started, and was worried I was going to be the last person as it was a very small field and nearly everyone else looked superfit. But about 7 people finished after me so I was chuffed.

Now about 10 weeks to the triathlon although things are so up in the air for us that I'm not even sure I will be in the country for training - will just have to find a swimming pool and hire a bike wherever we end up.

I might be up for the Kingston Breakfast run in March (again, if I'm in the country). Have always thought about it, but left it too late to train properly - but now I am in the habit of running regularly I think I should at least be able to do the 8 mile run if not the 16 mile.

One slight downer is that I appear to have developed plantar fasciitis again so I haven't actually been running since my aquathlon - although I've done a bit of swmming and cycling. I think I will treat myself to a pair of new shoes and maybe a trip to the physio and hope that I can get it sorted before starting my 6 week training program for the triathlon.

Finally I am another very heavy breather In other exercise I try to breathe out through my nose but it's just too much to concentrate on when running and I don't feel I get enough air in iyswim. Anyway it did me proud a week or so ago

Goldberry · 04/07/2010 16:49

Oh good - glad I'm not the only heavy breather with mouth open to catch flies . I too find that I can't get enough air in through my nose. Someone told me that oxygen intake is higher when you breathe through your nose, which is why I asked. Not sure if that's actually true though. I went for a run with dh this morning for the 1st time ever. He ran at my (very slow) pace, in spite of being much much fitter than me. He did, however, check out my running style, and told me I run flat-footed .
