I was waiting for someone else to start it but had to take the plunge to tell you i just did my w5r3. I managed it but am hurting. Started off too quick and was wrecked 5 mins in but slowed it down - kept going and got to about 14 mins in when my ankles started really hurting - i kept on going anyway and was v relieved when raaawb said that was it - i then proceeed to hobble home - the bath is filling as i type and my ankles are painful but still that i did it.

I will go running tomorrow. 3 miles again - am hoping it won't be too hot.

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 01/07/2009 18:49

im back!! i am discharged from physio today - waiting till about 8pm and seeing if cool enough to go out. My lovely hot physio had me running round the indoor track at the gym which i really quite enjoyed apart formthe bit were i stoped and tried to look like i wasnt dying inside lol. Anyhows he has discharged me and advised through work a podiatry thingy refereal - soemthing to do with my feets turning out as well. I demonstrated my excersises and my complete lack of balance which is laughable really as i just have none . So there you go a happy nappy back inthe run.

Well I managed to complete w6r1 but god knows how I am going to manage to do r3!
And of course my usual route was being dug up so I had to suffer the stares of all the workmen digging up the road looking at this bright red overweight female attempting to jog and breathe at the same time.

Honestly I am so annoyed with myself for not getting back into it sooner because I was really proud of myself for achieving something for once.

right positive thoughts - it gets better from now on.

Keep going everyone - honestly if I can run for 30 minutes so can you

Montifer · 01/07/2009 22:54

Nappy - Excellent news, go easy on the ankles

Mithered - I just had a look at W6 and that's great to get straight back in there (especially in this heat - am presuming it's hot where you are)

Jack - I'll try the one run at a time approach tomorrow and see if I can manage 3 mins without stopping

I find this thread really encouraging with so many 'if I can do it so can you' messages. I've tried to get into running a couple of times but given up a few weeks in with the excuse that running just isn't for me.
I really think this time will be different.
If W6 doesn't kill me that is

I'm going on holiday in September and hope to be looking inoffensive in a bikini and able to go for a couple of leisurely 5k runs in the French countryside air

JackBauer · 02/07/2009 06:52

Good morning everyone! I couldn't sleep last night (after a horrific nightmare where DD2 was Reagan from Exorcist and I woke myself up screaming out loud) so I got up at half 5 and went for a run, did 2.3 miles and ran for 27 minutes (with min walk in middle) I misjudged my route badly and was quite a bit slower than normal so ended up a bit far awy and had to keep going.
Managed to get back and showered before DD's woke up as well, although didn't manage to get dressed as well

So tryingtocook, I am more virtuous than you Did you manage to get out again?

Nappy, that's great news!

Rita, good one jumping straight back in!

Mithered, I can't manage the straight runs no stopping everytime, I save them for my Sunday afternoon run along the seafront, the rest of the time I am running the distance with a minute walk in the middle. Way I figure it, it's still more than I have done before, so it's not exactly bad to not run the whoel thing! It's still fricking awesome!

Monty, you really truly can do it!
I am a size 20 and weigh well over 15 stone, and I am doing it, slowly, and more of a joggy plod than a run, but I'm certainly not walking!

canella · 02/07/2009 08:05

morning all - no time this week for MN - dh is off all week and cant have him knowing how little time i spend doing housework and how much time i really spend on the computer .

and its also scuppered my running this week - and the heat is just too much! so scrapping this week and starting w6 again on monday! just had too much on already this week and we're going to a wedding tom and will be away till sat so no chance of doing all 3 runs! feel like i'm skiving but i'll be def be back out monday!!!

havent had a chance to read all the posts but glad you've been discharged nappy!! get those running shoes on!!

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 02/07/2009 08:17

i did last night - i got them on adn couldnt find any little shorts or a loose enough vest so put on my coolest stuff stepped out the house and it was like gettign of an aeroplane into the heat so i stepped back in and cracked open a solero - am postponing my return till i have some appropriate warm weather gear as close fittign t shirt not appealing in this heat!

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 02/07/2009 09:40

I got up and ran before children went to school .

Had on dri-fit clothes from nike (courtesy of ebay) which definitely help although running at 7am also good I think.

Did 3.11 miles in about 35 min so 11.15 min/mile.

Glad I have run now - wouldn't have been nice doing it later on.

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 02/07/2009 09:41

A couple of months ago there is no way I would casually have said Ijust ran for 35 min but honestly I think my body is getting used to it now.

A person at DD's swimming lesson said I was looking more toned yesterday too

tryingtocookacurry · 02/07/2009 13:39

Montifer, yes I ahve been doing 4 runs a week instead of 3 - would like to do 5 but these seems like way too much.

LOL Jack, it's nice running in the morning, cos then its over and done with and you can enjoy a relaxing evening after work! Well done to you - can't even imagine running for that long.

Am hoping I don't feel so rough tomorrow morning and might be able to do 5 mins. Mind you, I did run into bits of twigs sticking out of a bush and almost swallowed a leaf/bud hanging off it and was trying to breathe/jog and spit out bit of leaf and keep going all at the same time. LOL! Can't imagine what I must look like.

InTheZenGarden · 02/07/2009 14:08

Hi, could I join you please?
Saw a mention of this thread on one of the weight loss ones, and have checked out the podcast site - all I need now is an MP3 player and I'm set So behind the times

I need to lose a stone or so and really want to get fit - want to TTC #2, but I need to get into shape first, and DH is worried that my level of unfitness will make pregnancy and labour difficult, and potentially be a helath risk. He's absolutely right though, although I'm only slightly overweight, I am very unfit.

So, I have every incentive, now just to get started! Just getting over a bug now, but hope to be up to running next week, time to get an MP3 player, some decent trainers, some clothes.......

JackBauer · 02/07/2009 14:49

Ooh, I bought a nwe MP3 this morning after MIL lost misplaced my cheapo tesco one, I replaced it with an even cheaper tesco one!

it doesn't 'shuffle' it just plays what you put onit, so it's perfect!
Although I did put the firt podcasts on my phone and ran with that.

Anyway, back to point, Hi Zen! Good luck, and it gets easier, I honestly thought I was going to die after my first run, genuinely worried about heart attack/stroke etc but now I can run over 2 miles without keeling over. And that's only been 7 weeks!

InTheZenGarden · 02/07/2009 15:20

Better get myself off to Tesco tomorrow then, hadn't I?

Wow, Jack, I'm really impressed you can run so far after such a short time - definitely gives me hope.

I did Race4Life a few years ago, but that was all before having DD - indulging too much during pregnancy and not stopping once I'd given birth and stopped BFing Plus have done pretty much no exercise in all that time (DD is 14 months)

But, right now I am motivated and it is so good to know that there is this thread to keep me going. At school, I was the one who had the beautifully-coloured-in revision timetable, great intentions, but never actually got round to revising I am great at planning my exercise routine and fab new diet, but rubbish at implementing it, I always come up with an excuse

Fingers crossed, this time I will be successful

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 03/07/2009 20:42

oooo everyone is steaming ahead even in the heat! Well i went out for the first time tonight - i set out to repeat week6 run 1 but felt ok so continued through to do w6r2 so i guess im back in business .

When coming back in to our road my friend was just running out our road whom i recruited - she was on her warm up of w2r1 - i was very red.

So whos been out today ?

Inthezen did you get sorted?

OP posts:
InTheZenGarden · 03/07/2009 20:49

Have bought an MP3 player, so that's progress!

Still feeling rough after having had ?flu, but hoping to run Sunday or Monday, for the first time

Can I just check, have briefly looked at the podcast site, and I got the impression that you do the same run three times each week? So am confused when nappyzone says she did w6r2 rather than w6r1... have I got it wrong before I've started?

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 03/07/2009 21:03

no you have not got it wrong - week 1 to about 5 i think are the same runs but then when you get further on the runs for the weeks vary so day 1,2 and 3 will differ but are all played on the same podcast. Sounds confusing but it actually isnt as they start and stop at same times. Its a miracle how it all come stogether - you will see . I will be back to hound you on Sunday so dont slope off !!

OP posts:
InTheZenGarden · 03/07/2009 21:11

God nappy, I need hounding. Better warn you in advance though, Sunday may turn into Monday.... In laws are looking after DD for 24 hours for the first time in 14 months Dh and I are not quite sure what to do with our brief, new-found freedom! But going for a run may not be on the list.....

Promise I will check back in though

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 03/07/2009 21:13

its 35 mins max thats all it is - 24hrs hmmm

OP posts:
Montifer · 03/07/2009 23:22

LOL Zen - will you be doing a colour coded timetable for sunday

tryingtocookacurry · 04/07/2009 08:34

starting week 5 on Monday and getting worried!

In the Zen, good luck for your first day!

InTheZenGarden · 04/07/2009 21:30

Thanks for the support
No, montifer, no colour coded plans yet, though I do feel a list coming on ... since DD was born, I find that if I don't write a list, I tend to forget to do something vital ... like feed DD

Anyway, our plan for tomorrow is drop DD of with grandparents, drive to Peak District for walk and pub lunch, drive back home for brief snooze then off out for Thai meal in evening. Have a few drinks (I don't work Mondays, so hey) and then bed and then don't get woken by DD at 5.30. Bliss

Then run on Monday. Honest

Montifer · 04/07/2009 22:42

Back from W3 R2 and it was so much easier than the last one - hurrah.
However have got a rather unpleasant achey knee thing going on, the inner aspect of both knees, feels like it's in the joint, right knee much more than left. I've done a lot of stretching and they feel a bit better now but hope knees aren't going to cause problems already, I'm only 3 weeks in

Hope everyone is finding the cooler weather more forgiving.

Zen - hope you have a lovely day tomorrow, good luck for your run on monday.

lulalullabye · 04/07/2009 22:57

Hello, I have started again, with 4 wks off with no running. Have done w1 again and so far no pain in my knees. I have bought some patella straps that sit just under the knee cap and so far they seem to be working

Lets see how I go !

JackBauer · 05/07/2009 14:56

Hello all, well done monty, I found wk3 particularly bad on my knees, btu since i stopped running on grass and moved to pavements instead, and doing stretches afterwards I ahve found it a lot better.

Did wk7r3 this morning, 2.25 mins or something, but I am still walking for a minute in the middle, it's just too much otherwise
But hey, am still running!

Superduperloopthelooper · 05/07/2009 20:56

Hello .

I have run wk4r2 today and found it much easier than run1, although I did that last week in the heat.

I now have some sparkly bouncy new trainers and they have really helped and, following advice on here, have stuck to running on pavement which has been much easier.

I am really trying with my breathing but I am averaging one fly swallowed per run at the moment
