I WILL NOT nesh out again like I did last time.

DP has even bought me an iPod Shuffle to run with so that I don't have to lug my big iPod around (oh the inconvenience).

this is what I'm talking about and here's the podcasts I run to.

I'm not starting today though, got about 3 hours sleep last night.

Welcome, welcome, welcome to all and sundry! Atich - no idea where the ipod is. That's the trouble with shuffles - too bloody small for their own good.

Trillian - I hope you managed to get out today!

Kittywise - I hope you're feeling better.

MF - you do need to get some advice because otherwise you could do some lasting damage. I hope it gets better soon.

Odette - you're powering through this - amazed and in awe that you're almost done with W7. You've done brilliantly. Are you thinking about going for 10k then?

Brownsuga - we're neck and neck due to my total mental and physical block WRT W5. I went out on the road and did W5R2 (first time on the road). I was going to try and do W3 after having achieved it on the treadmill the other day but it wasn't happening and did W2 again. I shortened the mid-way walk by one minute (started running a minute before I should have, rather than running into the walking segment IYSWIM) and found it OK but I did still need that midway walk, big time. Will try W5R3 again on Friday. I really hope I can do it. I think that I just about have the puff but it's just that my legs are just jelly by about 10 minutes and can't seem to get through that.

Still loving it despite the fact that W5 is continuing to elude me. I felt Spring in the air when I was out today and it was wonderful!

keepingitRia · 18/02/2009 15:28

My DH seems to have vanished, so it doesn't look like I'll get out this evening. I am very about it , but I need a "rest" day if I'm doing it properly! (maybe if I make him feel guilty he'll let me replace my treadmill)

BrownSuga, we're nearly all still on the PN thread if you ever fancy popping in for a chat - there's a bit of "re-sprogging" going on too

Ohforfoxsake · 18/02/2009 15:35

Can I join too please? Have today signed up for the Race for Life, and am a non-runner (I just can't do it), but I want to be a runner so badly! Plus my gym membership runs out soon and I can't afford to re-new it

I have until the end of June to get up to 5k.

Ohforfoxsake · 18/02/2009 15:36

ooh get me - I'm keen

keepingitRia · 18/02/2009 15:37

hey foxy , now neither of us will be able to escap - unless we give up Mnetting completely!

lexcat · 18/02/2009 16:06

Was feeling bad at the fact that those who started at the same time as me are up to 20 min runs. So I looked at the plan again which I haven't followed, been going at my own pace.
Anyway thought W4 looked to hard as 2mins is the most i've run so tried W3. Now feeling a little better in the fact the two repetitions was easy plus it wasn't far as I normal go so did a 3rd repetition. So may try W4 at the weekend (dd staying with granny).
Best bit was after about 2.5mins on the first 3min run it got easier and I got into a flow and really felt like a runner.

lexcat · 18/02/2009 16:37

Sorry forgot to say hello and welcome to any newbies.

BrownSuga · 18/02/2009 17:08

Thanks Ria. I'm hoping to be sprogged anew this year sometime, better get cracking. I wonder how all this running will be with pregnancy, mmm something to contemplate. I was quite fit before DS, and kept up easy gym routine and swimming, so hopefully will be able to keep jogging well into it.

Welcome foxy, you can do it! I've always been a non runner and only used treadmills previoulsy for max 10mins at a time. I found previously I couldn't keep an even stride out on the road, somehow it's fallen into place now though.

AmIOdetteOrOdile · 18/02/2009 17:39

Thanks Pennies. I am considering pushing on to 10K, but am just having it as a little thought at the back of my mind at the moment...

OhforFoxsake - June is loads of time. Take it slowly and follow the plan. And read through the early posts of those of us who are now on Week 5+. We all struggled hugely in the early days but you get through it.

Ohforfoxsake · 18/02/2009 19:58

Thanks everyone

Am going to study The Plan now.

Pennies · 18/02/2009 20:14

OFFS - it might make you smile to know that I often invoke a variant of your name at some point during the final few minutes of my runs!!

PandaG · 19/02/2009 11:16

well, did week2 r3 today...but, I extended the last 90 sec run for as long as I could, which was 4 minutes - and I upped the speed to 10k/hr. considering 2 weeks ago I could only do 1min at 7.5k/hr I am very pleased.

welcome to all the other new runners - I am really finding this thread helpful in that I've got someone to tell (othre than my longsufferring but eencouraging DH)how I am doing!

PandaG · 19/02/2009 11:19

Ria - did you say you'd downloaded a Christian music podcast? would be interested in a link if so...

TrillianAstra · 19/02/2009 12:18

W1R2 done (I decided that my first random run without the plan does count). 60 seconds at a time is good, and the runs felt like they were getting smaller towards the end.

I was using the podcasts from the guy who tells you when to change, as I can't time myself and run at the same time. Not the sort of music I would usually choose but I think it does help. It was linked above but it's this one.

I know it's very boring, but I think I will put up all my 'I did a run today'. Don't feel that you have to say 'well done' every time, but if I don't post for 4 days or so can someone please track me down and poke me and ask why I've been slacking off?

I'm glad I'm not the only one starting at a random time of year instead of Jan 1st!

Ohforfoxsake · 19/02/2009 14:31

LOL Pennies, I usually save it for muttering under my breath to the children

I did a 2k run on the treadmill today, just to test myself and see how far I could go. I'm actually pretty pleased, although I will start my 'proper' training tomorrow. I've kept an old copy of Zest magazine for years with a training programme in, and finally, I am getting to use it!

I'm having trouble with that podcast, although I like the idea of it.

BrownSuga · 19/02/2009 14:31

It's not boring Trillian, we like to see how each other is getting on.

FWIW, I didn't go last night! I need a stick, but in my defence my cold has set in, and there was a snow storm. About 15cm, and still snowing this morning. I know that hasn't stopped me in the past, but I want to try and shake of this cold quickly.

I will plan for tomorrow and Sunday to finish W5.

sandy4 · 19/02/2009 16:11

Hello!

Any opinions on ttc & ''couch potato' to 5K'??

Probably a mad question, but I'm ttc & considering dropping the more extreme sports of skiing & horseriding, but still want to keep fit.

I have always been crap at running - I don't run, it's more of a slow jog. Is this for me? I like the idea of a challenge. Are you all super fit marathon runners?

BrownSuga · 19/02/2009 16:17

Hi Sandy! Welcome!

Heck no, if you read the start of this thread you'll see most of us are not runners at all. It's a great programme, not strenuous at all. Give it a go. The link to podcast and the program are on the first post by Giddy kipper. I'll be moving into TTC territory this month and hope to keep up with the running as long as possible.

(I also skiied when I was 6mths with DS no problems. I didn't do any black runs or anything foolhardy like that though )

TrillianAstra · 19/02/2009 16:31

Definitely not super-fit, absolutely never going to be a marathon runner, so son't worry sandy!

If you usually do other sport quite regularly you might find this program a bit too easy to sra off with, as it's aimed for those of us who usually do nothing, hence the 'couch potato' bit.

sandy4 · 19/02/2009 17:03

I like the sound of this! thanks, I'm going to give it a try!

keepingitRia · 19/02/2009 18:41

panda - it's on here

HTH

I have been for an almost 3 mile walk with the boys today.

and collected a treadmill from freecycle (DH can't complain if I haven't actually bought one can he?)

MissAnthrope · 19/02/2009 22:05

W1R2 for me today, complete with new running shoes and dd in the jogger. Luckily she seemed to quite enjoy it.

Well done to everyone on this thread so far, it's been very inspiring and I've always sworn blind that I would only run if being chased by the undead or if I were on fire

keepingitRia · 19/02/2009 22:23

LOL MissAnthrope. I have decided the buggy is too much like hard work. How old is your DD? My buggy is quite heavy enough without having a massive 19mo in it too. I just hope I "get on" better with the new treadmill than my last one... (but not tomorrow cos I have to drive into town and I can only cope with so much excitement in one day)
