Has anyone found the wii sports/fit games useful for weight loss?

never tried to use it like that but I have found it usefull for getting unbelievably competitve

ClementFreudsGreatestAdmirer · 27/12/2008 10:41

i don't know if it will be but i spent my first ever hour on it last night and it SEEMS fantastic - at the very least because it gives you a target, and lots of feedback, and the balance aspect is tremendous. I would anticipate it being better for strength and muscle tone than weight loss, but it all contributes.

IAmTheNewQueenOfMN · 27/12/2008 10:42

aahh yes but you can unlock 30 mins of jogging
thats gotta be a calorie burner

and you dont even have to be on the wii channle of the tv
the remote will tell you whats going on

can you tell I'm a fan
the thing is bloddy brilliant

ClementFreudsGreatestAdmirer · 27/12/2008 10:44

how does the remote tell you? brainwaves directly to your cortex?

bellavita · 27/12/2008 10:46

I loved it yesterday - 3 rounds of step aerobics and I also went jogging.

IllegallyBrunette · 27/12/2008 10:46

I am hoping it will help me with toning up and weight loss.

Mine said I was in ideal weight range and my wii fit age was my actual age, but I know I am not at all fit and I am carrying a tiny bit too much weight so would like to drop half a stone and tone up if possible.

IAmTheNewQueenOfMN · 27/12/2008 10:48

you obviously dont have a wii do you

it talks to you and makes appropiate noises for the ames you are playing
TIS THE BEST
I love my wii and my wii board

ClementFreudsGreatestAdmirer · 27/12/2008 10:51

sorry Queen i knew that came out wrong as soon as i pressed post. our wii is 2 days old and i'm a novice but i really didn't know the remote could talk. i'm so excited i want to neglect the children all day and play on it.

MrsSnape · 27/12/2008 10:52

I had a little go on tennis last night and found myself getting really wound up at "Stan", the mii man who kept scoring impossible points!

(I say 'a little go', I think it was about 2 hours or so )

We don't have wii fit yet but I'm seriously considering it.

I've been poorly this week, so haven't had much energy to play, but am definitely planning to use it that way. DD1-9 is already amazing at the step aerobics and the hula hooping (must be the years of dancing and gymnastics classes).

MrsWeasleyStrokesSantasSack · 27/12/2008 10:54

only 2 hours you are such a novice

CharleeInPantoPaperChains · 27/12/2008 10:57

I have unlocked everything on Wii Fit, i haven't been on it in ages though, i got miffed when i first went on it and (yes i know i am overwieght) the bloody thing made my Mii porky.

mysterymoniker · 27/12/2008 11:11

I hate the way it randomly adds weight to me, throughout the course of about 10 minutes

maybe my floorboards are uneven?

ghosty · 27/12/2008 11:30

I pulled a muscle in my arm the first week we had ours. And DH broke the living room light.
I wanted Wii fit for xmas but they were sold out so I will have to wait for my birthday ... (march)

MerlinsBeard · 27/12/2008 12:06

i lost 1lb in a few days with our wii fit (nobody dare say it was water retention)

i am really enjoying it and can see that i will stick at this kind of FUN excersice rather than huffing and wheezing down the streets of where i live red with embarrassment because i run like Phoebe(from friends) and everyone can see me!

jesusofutopia · 27/12/2008 14:16

If it makes your Mii fat, does it stay fat all the time in other games too? or just on wii fit?

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 27/12/2008 14:42

and...what's a Mii?

mysterymoniker · 27/12/2008 17:54

just on wii fit, jesusofutopia, phew!

BUT I HAVE LOST 3LBS SINCE THIS MORNING - how does that work, after 3 course lunch plus loads of turkish delight?

CharleeInPantoPaperChains · 27/12/2008 17:55

Your Mii is the character you make to represent yourself in some games, i think it only makes it fat for Wii Fit, i think its to encourage you to make it nice and slim again.

IllegallyBrunette · 27/12/2008 17:56

I have just discovered that I may need to wear a sports bra when jogging lol.

mimsum · 02/01/2009 15:33

slightly off at a tangent but does anyone know where I could get a NSTC version of Wii fit - dh has brought back a wii from abu dhabi but didn't check what region it was and it won't play pal games so we've only got wii sports (which is fun ) but I'd love to get a wii fit too

dearprudence · 06/01/2009 13:48

Am loving the Wii fit - the toning exercises and yoga are very good but the fat burning stuff is pretty low level. BUT... you can add in any other exercise you've done (like a step class or a long walk) so it's very motivating.

dearprudence · 06/01/2009 13:49

Have you created lots of other Miis as well? If you do, they appear in your games as referees or fellow-joggers. It's very cute! We have a full set of Beatles Miis.

SameAsYou · 06/01/2009 20:44

I had a go on my friends Wii Fit today on the Hula Hoop section - I loved it!!!

I did 175 spins/wiggles on my first go - although the girlies laughed at me as apparently i spin to the left when they all spin to the right. I wasn't very good at catching the flying ones though!

I think I might need to get one!

Stefka · 07/01/2009 11:58

I don't have one and am very jealous of you all. Can you really jog with it? How does that work?
