I can't find the old one in Health, and we deserve to be in brand new shiny Sport and exercise anyway

DOn't care about not being a 'real runner' TBH. Just don't call me a jogger!1

sfxmum · 05/11/2008 14:42

LOL about pondering the plot of Heroes while running

Threadworrm · 05/11/2008 14:45

I don't mind being called a jogger -- me and my iPod are both set to 'shuffle'.

Cadix · 05/11/2008 14:49

Mou I started running on Monday! Went out again today for my second walk/run session.

Right! having been inspired by you all, I am going to aim for the Manchester 10k in May. Woo Hoo.

Must dig out my old mp3 player.

billysitch · 05/11/2008 14:50

Completely bonkers, the lot of you.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 05/11/2008 15:41

Arf @ Threadworm!

sfxmum · 05/11/2008 15:43

actually Threadworrm the running club near me is called Xplace shufflers which is why they are top of my list for joining
but expect it is a misnomer and they are all extra fit

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 05/11/2008 15:45

There's one near me called Potters Trotters so that's a bit faster than a shuffle.

sfxmum · 05/11/2008 15:47

LOL

mou · 05/11/2008 16:01

at billystitch..but we do like being bonkers

MrsWednesday · 05/11/2008 16:16

I love this thread, every time I read it I want to go out for a run immediately

I tried and failed to run with my i-pod, for some reason it puts me off my rhythm. Love the head space I get from running though, it's almost hypnotic for me and about the only time I manage to stop my mind whirring.

It's lovely to talk to people about stuff like this.

futurity · 05/11/2008 17:22

me? bonkers? for thinking about Heroes whilst running and playing air drums?!

also loving this thread!

slackrunner · 05/11/2008 17:29

LOL at Potters Trotters - definitely sounds like my sort of club.

I'm off out shuffling for the first time in two weeks tonight (have had the lurgy); it's going to hurt isn't it? (rhetorical question)

notyummy · 05/11/2008 17:42

BTW; those of you looking for running clubs should try googling the Hash House Harriers...sounds dodgy I know, but is actually world wide group of running groups. They meet all over the UK and their logo is 'the drinking club with the running problem' i.e its highly social and all speeds of runners are welcome. I would highly recommend it.

Themasterandmargaritas · 05/11/2008 19:58

They scare me notyummy. They make you drink a lot and do silly initiation tricks on you when you start out.

Lapsedrunner · 05/11/2008 21:02

I have been a Hash House Harrier in the dim an distant past...but never with the silly drinking. However I can thoroughly recommend orienteering www.britishorienteering.org.uk/newto/index.php....sometimes called "cunning running"grin. In fact I am lucky to be a SAHM and went orienteering today smile

OrmIrian · 05/11/2008 21:05

OOh drinking and running. Two of my most favourite things

Wallace · 06/11/2008 06:22

What have I started?! Fantastic that there are so many runners.

Hae been to a lot of Hash runs in various African c ountries with my dad. When he is in this country I plan to take him to the nearest one

OP posts:
Themasterandmargaritas · 06/11/2008 07:07

The Hash is always very popular amongst expats in many African countries, it's a great way to get to know people when you first arrive. But boy, it's extreme drinking Orm, pop over to Kenya for a holiday and we can find the local one for your pleasure

I managed 4k this morning as we have an impromptu public holiday to celebrate Kenya's son becoming The Most Powerful Man In The World. Dd came along on her bike to keep me chatting going.

OrmIrian · 06/11/2008 11:05

Extreme drinking! Hmmm... I once survived Black Friday after the Bridgwater Carnival - by the skin of my teeth. And that was a long time ago.

Perhaps not, but thanks for the offer

ambercat · 06/11/2008 11:25

HI, can i join you all?

I started running in august and now manage to go 3 x week. Am slowly building up my distance, can run 7 miles comfortably now.

Hoping to do run half marathon in april (scared!) but getting a bit concerned about my speed. Have been told to train 1st for distance and then for speed so tend to plod around slowly and have increased the distance i go each week.

This morning i went for a run with a friend for the 1st time (have been a solitary runner until now) and she said we would take it slow, omg it almost killed me, my slow is NOT the same as hers! so now a bit worried i have been going too slow! i can do 5k in around 30 mins, is that ok??!

OrmIrian · 06/11/2008 11:35

That's good going in 3 months ambercat! Well done. I'm must be slow too - I think 5k in 30 mins is probably more or less the same as me.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 06/11/2008 20:28

And me

ambercat · 06/11/2008 20:30

Good! my confidence was a bit knocked this am as i found it hard work. Also we ran a very hilly route, made me realise i have been sticking to the flat.....hills are hard work!

mou · 06/11/2008 21:15

Mmmm, thinking of doing the reservoir run tomorrow, come rain or shine. I am so excited. And I can have cake, mmmmmm cycling, running and cake. (boring sorry, I don't drink (anymore!!))
