Does anybody find leg day so hard and mentally taxing?

Like quads glutes and calves in agony at the end. Does anyone struggle to push for the last few reps as well?

No but that’s because I spend leg day drinking wine in the garden.

FrenchandSaunders · 13/08/2026 15:51

Surely it shouldn't be agony OP?

Yes I’m currently on day 3 of doms and I’m a nurse on night shift tonight 😂 was only thinking the other day that I much prefer bicep and shoulder recovery!

NC9000 · 13/08/2026 15:54

Yes, I've had loads of leg days so taxing that I can't sit on the loo the following day and the next. It's also very taxing on the cardio. I hate it, personally, but I also want a nice arse and strong legs!

Definitely have a love hate relationship with leg day. But it shouldn't be agony at the end. The next day however...

Can we get this without doing leg day tho?

@lombardh not really sure how?? I've tried just sitting on the settee but that's been a failed plan, apparently.

PawMaw · 13/08/2026 15:56

I get fatigue near the end of a workout or sometimes jelly legs walking down the stairs on leaving the gym but don't feel any pain until 36-48 hours later. My DH get DOMS within 24 hours and I thought that was quick!

I take creatine though so 🤷

Yup plated leg press! I’ve got a new program written with squats, lunges, leg press, hip thrusts. The lunges especially my legs were spasming and shaking. Been doing this since June so thought it might ease up but I’m progressive overloading my weights. I’m meant to do 15 minutes cardio at the end too and felt like my legs wouldn’t move the other day 😂

ElectoralControversy · 13/08/2026 15:57

Yeah i know what you mean, i had a few months off and was surprised how horrible my first leg day back was 🤢

bananaapplepears · 13/08/2026 15:58

What do you actually mean by agony? I'm a powelifter so very experienced in this and have never been in what I call agony. I get DOMs occasionally but thats not agony. Have you injured something?

Apparently equestrian is really good for building the glutes?

Yes I’m also on creatine! Sounds very similar as the morning after I thought wow that isn’t so bad this time, the next day however 🙈 horrendous stairs are a killer and bracing yourself to get down to the toilet gritting your teeth before you do so lol 😩

I'm intrigued as to what your leg day is.

I usually pay the next day but am not in agony during the workout - I push hard, but when the next weight up fails, that's my limit.

Waitingfordoggo · 13/08/2026 16:00

It’s always the quads for me. I teach Bodypump and Strength Development- it’s 6 sessions a week and because my muscles are so used to it, I never get DOMs anymore. BUT, when I have a long break (I had 2.5 weeks off earlier in the summer) and go back to it, it’s always the quads that hurt. Biceps, chest, shoulders, abs etc all fine. THE QUADS. I end up doing that weird jerky walk like I can’t bend my knees properly. Climbing and descending the stairs is tricky- try going sideways.

I LOVE leg day 😂 my favourite thing in the world is hopping on the leg press after a man and putting the weight up 🤣 however, I have very little upper body strength and a permanent shoulder injury so...

I want to see leg press numbers here (whilst fully acknowledging that we are all on our own personal fitness journeys and comparison is totally flawed)

140kg

Waitingfordoggo · 13/08/2026 16:15

My record on the leg press was 200kg (1 rep) but sadly quite a few years ago now. The last time I used one a couple of months ago, I pressed 120kg (3 sets of 10 I think).

Sadly I don’t make time to go to the gym and do weights because I teach so many classes and I don’t want to get injured. Hoping eventually to reduce my class schedule and get back in the gym.
