Does anybody find leg day so hard and mentally taxing?

Like quads glutes and calves in agony at the end. Does anyone struggle to push for the last few reps as well?

I want to see leg press numbers here (whilst fully acknowledging that we are all on our own personal fitness journeys and comparison is totally flawed)

140kg

Thats incredible I can only do 80kg

ibuprofen gel for any extended doms sufferer. Once had really bad back doms and a sick bug - horrendous!!

Leg day is the best day ever unless bulgarian split squats have been programmed...

Bulgarians are so hard to do properly

140kg

235kg and 110kg if doing single leg (3 sets of 6-8 reps)

legs is easy…..now shoulders…..meh. Hate shoulders!!

WearyAuldWumman · 13/08/2026 16:29

Aren't you supposed to struggle for the last few reps for any exercise?

I do find the legs a bit wobbly the next day sometimes, particularly if I've combined legwork with a dance class or running.

user1471538275 · 13/08/2026 16:29

@lombardh I'm really quite heavy though, so you may well press more in percentage terms of your body weight.

Also, my squat is abysmal and my deadlift is nothing to write home about.

I'm best lying down - so leg press and chest press are good for me.

I blame a dodgy back that I'm trying to rehab.

Some serious numbers coming out here - impressive @TheCountessofLocksley

I have recently been trying single leg. It's a very different beast and I'm starting lowish until I feel more stable.

Do you wear any clothes in particular that helps with this

Nice stretchy leggings. Always need a bit of adjustment though.

hugasaurus · 13/08/2026 16:39

I love leg day but I do have a tendency to not realise how far I’ve pushed and then spend three days having to lower myself down onto the toilet with my arms… so I have learned that just because I can doesn’t always mean I should! Almost had a race scuppered because I got carried away and could barely walk for a few days.

Are the shorts good as well

Ah but it depends how you are doing it and your range of motion. I could 140kg but once I started to increase the range and narrow the stance I had to reduce the weights.
I love leg day apart from hack squat and split Bulgarians which are the devil's work!!

WearyAuldWumman · 13/08/2026 16:57

Re: clothing

I buy Sweaty Betty compression leggings and shorts. (Mind you, I'm older and not using as heavy weights as most of you.)

user1471538275 · 13/08/2026 16:58

I am NOT brave enough for shorts

Have you been training for a while?

OP posts:
CraftyNavySeal · 13/08/2026 17:48

Yep.

Upper body is easy peasy for me.

Leg day has so many moving parts to think about. My knees aren’t great and I have a bit of hyper mobility so making sure me knees and back are doing the right thing takes a lot of effort.

The quad pain is just unbearable for me

Leg day is my favourite. I love leg day. Weirdly I like DOMs too. I feel like I must be doing something right if I have DOMs

I'm just getting back into the gym after some time away, might have to pop in for a leg only session over the weekend now

TheCountessofLocksley · 13/08/2026 19:34

@lombardh - 6 years.

username2185 · 13/08/2026 19:45

Yes especially if I’ve taken time out! It also leaves me exhausted the next day, on top of doms but I do have low iron too. I keep thinking about starting creatine to help, do you take it?

Ladyfromthehill · 13/08/2026 19:54

It's my fav day. I have shadow abs so hate core days, and I dont massively enjoy upper body. Legs and moderate cardio is where I thrive, love squats, deadlifts, launges, but I also found programme/website that does the most amazing fitness content, and while Im not saying I am super strong/good at lifting, I have genuinely enjoyed the lower body workouts the most.
