@BezMills

I see elderly ladies with osteoporosis at exercise classes - they're phenomenal.

Also, a question - for those still menstruating / in peri, how do you find your period impacts on your ability to exercise? I find I sleep much much more (the narcolepsy effect). I can exercise OK if I get to gym but the sleepiness is a barrier. I get dizzier too.

I think peri actually had a beneficial effect on me, I feel like I have more energy now! Although I can live without the vertigo, it makes any floor exercise abit spinny!

Today was 40 mins weight training and 45 minutes on the exercise bike. Only 6k steps so far but I still have to walk to work.

stilldumdedumming · 13/10/2025 20:07

Just 60 x 25m swim - but in just under 40 mins so a fairly good pace.
Pilates was cancelled and I’m tired.

Physio today and a short walk. Not much, but something.

Tomorrow I have hydrotherapy. I’ll be looking forward to that!

Alittlefrustrated · 13/10/2025 20:20

34 x 25m swim
1 hr pilates class
A walk, but I didn't track it - shorter than my norm though.
180.
Doubt if I'll get anything done tomorrow due to a full day.
Lots of good work going on, on this thread at the moment. Very inspiring, thankyou ladies!

Placestogo · 13/10/2025 20:49

No exercise today (unless kneading cinnamon buns count? It was hard work!)
i went to tge women physio, she assessed my pelvic floor but also my abs. She said i was fine with abs as my diastos recti is normal (yay!) not deep and very narrow gap which is great. She assessed my planks and i need to coordinate my breathing more but im good.
she’s making a program so we can work together towards a C25k plan and at the end of it i should be able to run.
i need to really get my legs stronger to support my pelvic floor so its not doing extra exercise.
Very happy and nice to be able to work towards a goal with a professional - i think i can just about afford a monthly review. I see it as an investment for the future. It will save me in having to buy loads of Tena pads later on 😅

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 13/10/2025 23:07

I'm away for work but managed 16000 steps so I'm logging it!

Pelvic floor stuff is definitely worth it (says me, who began Kegels again after a long break yesterday and so far is not fixed)

Happleandhorange · 13/10/2025 23:18

Saw hand therapist today. Hopefully our final session. She gave me a wrist widget, which feels fabulous, I am hoping it will enable me to start floor work on gym again.
She almost wept with relief when I said I was seeing a shoulder physio privately later this week! I hadn't realised quite how bad it obviously is.
She tested my arm strength and both sides are far stronger, so the gym is obviously doing something.

roonetta · 14/10/2025 08:13

Nat Hayward mini band workout done ✅

Bodycombat at CBD gym tonight. It was great. Much more interactive - the sightlines in that room are better, so instructor can see you and vice versa.
42.

FurForksSake · 14/10/2025 10:56

Today I’ve already done my physio exercises, some resistance band work on my arms and some added Pilates bits. I’ve got hydro this afternoon, so a busy day!

BezMills · 14/10/2025 13:07

Today I cleaned up the floor in my home office and did 3 sets of 30s hollow hold and 30s arch hold. That seemed plenty. Then 4 sets of 30s dead hang. Which also seemed plenty. So I'm counting it in sets. 3 on the floor and 4 on the bar. Tick.

I could have done a wee bit more, but one thing I've learned the hard way is that doing a bit less the first time tends to be more successful in terms of habit-building than ragging yourself heroically and needing 3 days rest and never doing it again

Now as I promised myself, a macaroni pie for my lunch.

Happleandhorange · 14/10/2025 14:45

Hahah to needing three days rest sounds so familiar that's never happened to me

WearyAuldWumman · 14/10/2025 15:06

Tendon trouble on right foot is still bothering me, but managed the Stretch class. Only half an hour.

Was able to get off the mat, standing up without crawling onto my knees first and/or using a ledge or chair. I am astonished. (Seriously - you have no idea who stiff and inflexible I've been for years.)

Followed by mini gym stint - 25kg on the lat machine - lat pull, triceps pull and biceps pull with 'Angel Wings' stretch in between. Did a few 8kg side dips while waiting for machine.

Used vibro plate on legs afterwards.

henlake7 · 14/10/2025 17:59

Between nightshifts today so just 10k steps (there were hills involved so I'm counting it!).

stilldumdedumming · 14/10/2025 20:39

That’s great progress @WearyAuldWumman

today was a hard core core class, a hard Pilates class and my regular yoga class.

i think that’s 6

FurForksSake · 14/10/2025 20:57

Wrong thread, sorry!

Keeping on exercising
Happleandhorange · 14/10/2025 21:07

That sounds very challenging, @FurForksSake . I completely get why you struggle. The diagram is interesting though. I'd be fascinated to find out how they recommend behavioural activation! It's a hard balance with chronic illness, to encourage yourself to do more whilst also being gentle on yourself.

Wearyauldwoman that is a huge sign of progress, well done! It's so satisfying when hard work translates into a new level of strength and flexibility for daily life.

WearyAuldWumman · 14/10/2025 21:36

Thanks @stilldumdedumming and @Happleandhorange . Two years ago, I couldn't get off the couch without using my arms - thought I was finished.

Today was quite a relief for me!

WearyAuldWumman · 14/10/2025 21:40

Pilates plus yoga? Do you find much of a crossover, @stilldumdedumming ?

stilldumdedumming · 14/10/2025 22:11

@WearyAuldWumman not really. I used to teach yoga so I understand that. I don’t really understand Pilates. To me it feels like Pilates is very much about stabilising with the movement. The type of yoga I do isn’t really like that. That’s more working on different interconnected levels. But I think some of the effects are the same.

stilldumdedumming · 14/10/2025 22:29

So today in Pilates there was a lot of slow controlled stabilising the pelvis while we moved one leg or one arm and a lot of focus on the core. In yoga we were feeling into how the pelvis works as two related parts that can move in different ways. And how the internal organs move inside the body (which made me feel a bit queasy but was v cool). I can’t imagine doing that in a Pilates class but maybe I’m wrong!

WearyAuldWumman · 14/10/2025 23:15

Happleandhorange · 15/10/2025 02:20

Goodness to detailed anatomy yoga. Every yoga class I have ever done has focused on breathing out to encompass the entire universe and standing on your head and then I fell asleep.
