Hi all, just setting up a second thread - I hope you don’t mind @Jumbojem but the other one was getting a bit close to ending…

Sorry to keep harping on about the weather but it’s still raining up here so instead of running this morning I’m going to get back on my lovely water rowing machine which I’ve neglected totally since starting running back in Jan/Feb. I miss it (and I miss the muscle toning it gave me) so I’m going to get back on this morning for a change.

Might do parkrun tomorrow or a longer run, haven’t yet decided.

It’s horrible weather again today. I really need to get out for a least a 5k,
am considering going straight after work to get it done instead of waiting for run club, when it’s likely that I’ll not go 😂

WorstPaceScenario · 27/01/2026 10:09

Hi all, newbie here - hope it's okay to gatecrash?

I've been running for a year, and currently arse-deep in training for Edinburgh Marathon in May, via the Inverness Half at the beginning of March

RunningInto · 27/01/2026 10:59

This January rain & storms have felt relentless here in the SW. we’ve all cut off this morning by flooded roads it’s all rather crap. Luckily I can wfh but schools shut as no teachers can get in. Can’t be arsed to run today will see if it’s better tomorrow.. do need to get my steps in so hoping a dog walk later if the rain eases at lunchtime.

RunningInto · 27/01/2026 11:00

Welcome @WorstPaceScenario hope your training is going ok & not too hampered by the winter storms.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 27/01/2026 15:59

It’s raining again here now. So many floods and road closures around the county. I’m trying to decide whether to go to run club tonight. I have a sneezy cold and running in the rain probably won’t do it much good but I don’t like to miss it. I’ll see how I feel later on.

tomorrow is looking a bit better here so I may well try and get out on my lunch break if I don’t do the club run tonight.

also, welcome @WorstPaceScenario. How are you finding your training so far?

BogRollBOGOF · 27/01/2026 17:11

Tomorrow looks more promising as long as we don't get too icy...
I'll see how it looks at stupid o'clock...

Nedsatomicdustbin · 27/01/2026 20:34

I ran home from work. No other option as I didn’t have my car.

6 miles of hell. Wind, rain, tired and sad legs. I got splashed by a big lorry and my knee hurt all of the way.

it was one of the worst runs of my entire life.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 27/01/2026 21:01

Oh no @Nedsatomicdustbin that doesn’t sound like fun!

@BogRollBOGOF hopefully it’s not too icy in the morning for you! I may have to go out on my lunch break just so that I can run in semi ok weather!

I went to club run in the end and I was glad that I did. I was a bit sore after over doing it a bit last week but I taped up and it was fine. My cold felt as if it had gone while I was running but it seems to have returned now I’ve stopped 😂. Hey ho. It was worth a try to run it off!! It actually stayed dry throughout which was surprising as there was a massive downpour just before I left but we got lucky!!

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 28/01/2026 08:56

Morning all, reporting for duty. I completed C25K in December with my local run club who I have now joined. I did a 7k with a group of them last night, they tend to split into 10k+ and a 5k+ packs on a Tuesday night.

I couldn’t run last year but after losing 5 stone I am getting bitten by the running bug. I have entered a 10k run at the beginning of April.

My 5k PB is 31.05 which I think is ok for someone in their early 60s.

I am trying the Runna app for a week to see if it can help my reach 10k goal without too much discomfort. Max distance so far is 8k.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 28/01/2026 14:40

Welcome to the tread @TheSlimmingPumpkin your 5k time is fab for a new runner in their early 60s!! Good luck for your 10k. It sounds as if you’ll smash it if you can already do 8k and you have until April to practice.

I took my dog on a muddy slippery 5k trail run this lunch time. I had to get out as it was actually sunny and not cold! I was feeling pretty coldy and not great before I went, but feeling a bit better now. Hopefully I can keep running through this one and it doesn’t floor me like the virus I had last spring! That started out a bit like this and then turned bad!

Hope everyone has managed a dryer day today.

BogRollBOGOF · 28/01/2026 17:18

I did my run. By 6:35 there was a glimmer of light in the sky!
The ground wasn't too bad, but my car was iced up enough to make walking to work more appealing than chiselling awkward ice for longer than the drive.

I'm appreciating the afternoons creeping out a bit more. I am walking home in daylight most days now.

tinks3110 · 29/01/2026 17:59

Hi all and welcome to the newcomers
I went out for 4 foggy miles on Tuesday and just back from an easy 5k. Started a training plan for my 10 mile race in March but feel
like I’m going to get frustrated with it as the long run distances seem short.

Dewsbury 10k for me on Sunday, looks like it’s going to be another cold and wet one. Hoping I might pull a PB out the bag but think it depends how cold I get before the start

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 30/01/2026 20:54

Well done on your early run @BogRollBOGOF i too cannot wait for the lighter (and warmer) evenings.

good luck for your race @tinks3110

i went to track tonight. I very nearly didn’t as I’m still not feeling 100% and it was cold and damp but I’m glad I did it. I’m still feeling quite sluggish compared to my normal and I know that track helps me get faster even if I don’t really enjoy the process 😂.

Long run for me Sunday. Going to try and get 13 or so miles done, I think the group will only do 10 so I’m going to try and get up early (not my strong point) and do a few miles before we meet.

RunningInto · 31/01/2026 11:30

Parkrun cancelled again sadly due to post storm clear up needed on the paths. I had a nice sunny!!& Dry 🥳 mixed trail 6k instead and it was lovely to feel the sun on my face & my soul recharging before the next storm hits. Hope you all have lovely wend runs.

BogRollBOGOF · 31/01/2026 15:24

Did parkrun as a "threshold" run today. DS was tired so I went to the flat one he hates which is good for even pacing.

My legs felt a bit dead and leaden, but I managed sub 31 with a lower heart rate than recent weeks.

BogRollBOGOF · 31/01/2026 15:25

High numbers this week, the two parkruns in town had well over 1000 participants between them.

We had good weather for it; bright and about 4-6⁰C.

TyneFilth · 31/01/2026 21:35

Hello after a long hiatus (again). I'm not very good at these threads and I'm very crap at name checking people who've done cool stuff but @tinks3110 podium finish stands out so another massive well done from me!

Today I did a trail run, second of the G3 series near Guildford. I was aiming for 1:15 in the 10k and came in bang on, pretty much! Fuelling, pace, level of clothing, hydration were just all spot on. The route was 5k of steady climb, mostly on muddy/rocky paths, to what should have been a viewpoint but it was misty. Then downhill but with a cheeky couple of ups thrown in, and about 500m where there was no choice but to run/walk ankle deep in an ice cold stream that was where the path should be. It was <<special>>!!!

I will definitely have a rest day tomorrow, and I know I haven't done enough stretching today. Then back on the programme to build up for doing the third G3 at the end of Feb, when I will do the 15k, which we all suspect will involve the climb to St Martha's - a fierce incline...

SFRSmum · 01/02/2026 09:38

Ive managed to do my long run!! I split it as it just got too hot once the sun came up and I'd ran out of water and electrolytes. 25k this morning completed before 9am and 5km this afternoon on the treadmill.
I ran this morning really really slow, 3 and a half hours, but I felt really really strong and didnt really stop.

Very proud of myself. Also did some arm strength today so I can have a day of complete rest tomorrow, nothing planned, not leaving the hotel, just a cooking class based in the hotel.
Any, rambling on!

Well done everyone on this weekends running!

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 01/02/2026 11:38

Well done @SFRSmum that’s good work in that heat! I really enjoyed running on holiday last year but I only did a pre breakfast 5k each day!

Well done on your xc races @TyneFilth

i went out for the Sunday long run with the group today. I was in two minds whether to or not as still have a virus and didn’t feel fantastic but also wanted to get it done. I did 11 miles with the group and then made it to a half by running in circles home (didn’t make it out early 😂) and managed it in 1:54. So not bad for a training run. My heart rate kept going annoyingly high though, which I’m putting down to the virus, which did make chatting harder than usual. But all in all pleased and don’t feel too sore after. So that’s a win. Also, it stayed dry, so that’s another win 😂.

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 01/02/2026 13:46

Did my long run this morning. Ambled 9.1km in 1hr 4 mins. I will be fine for my 10k run at beginning of April 👍🏻. I said on the entry form 1hr 10 so that’s going to be okay. Seriously looking at entering another 10k at the beginning of June as I don’t want to be a one and done

I also managed to dodge the rain this morning @Whataninterestinglookingpotato so definitely a win

tinks3110 · 01/02/2026 15:30

Well done for getting out running everyone.
my 10k race went well, no rain and despite not feeling my best managed a PB of 52:31

got 6/7 weeks of training now for a 10 mile race in March

Nedsatomicdustbin · 01/02/2026 16:19

9 miles this morning which is the furthest I’ve ran in over 10 years.

I’ve been good for nothing ever since and gave just had a 2 hour nap.

BogRollBOGOF · 01/02/2026 18:39

I had my nap first then went out for 10k with DH. I've done a few 10ks recently but jeffed them. This time I jeffed the first and last quarter and ran the middle two quarters using the C25k week 9 podcast. I feel like I'm making progress on making 10k easier rather than increasing milage for the sake of it. I seem to have lost quite a bit of fitness through the autumn despite having done a 10mi race in November in a reasonable time.

Jumbojem · 01/02/2026 22:05

I did a run with a couple of friends yesterday, got soaked and I appear to be lacking in fitness compared to them which is slightly concerning as we are all training for the same events!
My knees have been complaining this week, I thought it was all the running in the wet but a conversation about shoes reminded me I've had my road shoes since last May and my knees starting to hurt is the tell tale sign I need fresh shoes.
Had a rest day today to let them recover, plus I think it might be dry tomorrow!
At least the evenings are getting lighter, sunset is 5pm now so post work runs will be in dusk if I get out without faffing too much.

RunningInto · 02/02/2026 12:24

Hope the shoes help the knees @Jumbojem and fitness does go up / down in our house there’s definitely a full moon impact on energy before & after it’s full. May sound bizarre but I’ve observed it in my kids energy levels too.
Well done @Nedsatomicdustbin thats a great distance. When I’d did HM training I was always shattered afterwards doing 8m+ no matter how I fuelled. My DH thinks nothing of it just goes after work easily rattles out 10m…very annoying!
Well done @BogRollBOGOF great for getting 10k done.

i did a 6k trail with dog this morning but she was being a bit of a sniffy pickle off exploring & went under a fench at one point luckily I did have sausage with me to get her back. Normally she’s happy to trot along with me but everything was obviously smelling lovely today she had to keep investigating & me stopping.
